FATAL Pursuit | Suspect Tries To Flee From GSP's Challenger

- On 09/14/2022, at 1325 hours, I observed a white older model Ford Taurus with a male driver entering the southbound lanes of Veterans Parkway from I-516 eastbound.
The driver had a cellular phone in his right hand at face level messing with the screen with his thumb. I
activated my emergency blue lights and siren attempting to initiate a traffic stop. The vehicle exited
onto Chatham Parkway and failed to yield for my emergency equipment initiating a pursuit. The driver
immediately drove his vehicle into the southbound lanes traveling north while dodging oncoming traffic.
He approached the intersection of Chatham Parkway and GA-25 and made a right turn to travel north
on GA-25. He immediately began traveling in the center turn lane and moved into the southbound
lanes traveling north. He was driving in an extremely reckless manner by nearly striking other vehicles
head on. He would swerve back into the center turn lane prior to striking them and then return to the
southbound lanes traveling north.
As we approached Gamble Road, he became more reckless as he drove through the intersection in
the wrong lanes at a high rate of speed narrowly missing other vehicles. He traversed around the
vehicles in the intersection and continued north in the southbound lanes. His vehicle gained a significant distance from my vehicle after leaving the intersection with Gamble Road due to me using
due regard for the safety of other motorists. He approached the intersection with the Interstate 516 EB
off ramp to GA-25 in the wrong lane and failed to obey a red traffic signal. His vehicle was struck by a
white Infinity SUV attempting to turn north onto GA-25 that had a green traffic signal. The impact
caused his vehicle to hit the median guard rail and a third vehicle. I arrived on scene and observed the
suspect vehicle in the center of the southbound lanes facing northwest. The white Infinity traveled into
the northbound lanes and came to a stop against a second guardrail. The third vehicle was hit head on
and came to a stop in the southbound lanes back against the median guardrail.
I immediately exited my patrol car and deployed my issued sidearm in the direction of the violator. A
plain clothed Savannah Police officer arrived on scene and we approached the suspect vehicle. I
observed that the driver was not moving and notified dispatch to get medical personnel enroute to the
scene quickly. I moved to check the occupants of the other vehicles due to the severity of the crash. All
other occupants stated they had minor injury complaints and I began to return to the suspect vehicle.
Several other Savannah Police officers arrived on scene and stated they were attempting to render
medical aid, but the violator was not breathing and did not have a pulse. Savannah firefighters arrived
on scene at approximately 1333 hours and began applying advanced life saving procedures.
Corporal M. Nelson arrived on scene and began an advanced accident
investigation. The violator was transported to Memorial Health University Medical Center by ambulance
and pronounced deceased by Dr. Stephani Gordi at 1401 hours. The Chatham
County Coroner’s Office was notified by the hospital. The driver of the Infinity truck was transported to
get evaluated for injury complaints. All City Towing was called to remove the suspect vehicle and the
Buick SUV from the scene. The Infinity truck was removed by a tow service called by the driver. During
a pretow inventory of the suspect vehicle, a black loaded Glock 45 with 18 rounds
was found in the driver’s side compartment. A backpack containing approximately 1.98 lbs. of
suspected Marijuana, two white round unlabeled pills in a clear plastic bag, a box of clear plastic
sandwich bags, a black pouch containing $1530.00 in multiple denominations with multiple cards, and a
white Weightmax digital scale was found. Georgia and Florida driver’s licenses were found in the pouch
identifying the driver as Ja’von Raheem Richards with a DOB of 1998.
While on scene, a female attempted to approach the scene and spoke with Savannah Police
officers. She stated that the driver of the suspect vehicle might be a relative of hers. She spoke with
Corporal Dante Williams, and stated his name should be Ja’von. She also stated she would
call his mom to the scene. A female identifying herself as Mr. Richards’ mother arrived on scene and
kept inquiring about his location. She never gave any contact information and I attempted to calm her
down to make the notification. I stated that he was at Memorial Health Hospital and she ran from the
scene enroute to the hospital. TFC A. Digiacomo, made the official notification at approximately 1500 hours. The scene was cleared, and all evidence found was taken to Post 42,
documented, and submitted into the evidence section.
Upon speaking with the Chatham County Coroner's Office and GBI Medical
Examiner's Office, both stated that an autopsy would be performed on Mr. Richards to determine
manner of death.
My main concern is my family driving with nutjobs on the road like this.

This is an unfortunate side effect of the insanity that stems from some places choosing not to chase if the suspect drives like this. Instant get out of jail card in some areas. Unfortunately for him, driving like that won’t stop the chase from GSP and he’s lucky they didn’t shoot him while chasing him due to the level of lethal force justified once he started trying to hit other drivers.

The "city" I lived in has a no pursuit policy. But in their defense if the guy is speeding through one of the main roads. It's only a few minutes. But I think that only applies to the city PD. Because at work I was listening to the CB amd heard a chase that went through. Sheriff's were the ones in pursuit.

Dang they performed CPR on him for a long time! Guess they were hoping for a miracle. Cops were like "nah, he dead".
From what I understand, once you start it's sorta bad form to stop until someone with the authority to call you off does so.
Yea like unnamed channel they have to wait until a medic can come and legally call it, it would be a lawsuit if they didn't "try" to perform any life saving techniques. Same reason why when they shoot someone dead they still cuff em and wait until they can legally be pronounced at the scene or when taken to the hospital.
Accident happened at 13:26 and he was pronounced at 14:01 so a whole lot of work was attempted.
The good part is no one else was seriously injured by this reckless former person.

The only "thinking" that these perps are doing is trying to recall their best day ever playing Mario Kart. It's not so much that they're trying to get GSP to back off by driving into oncoming traffic, but that they're trying to cause other motorists to get into serious collisions, possibly hoping that the LEOs also get caught up in the ripple effect.

R serious ? Mate in most cases where a pursuit is called of even temporarily firstly the suspect is usually apprehended as they start to slow down or unmarked cars or police choppers locate them. Secondly if your kid or wife etc ends up burnt severely with skin grafts or a paraplegic would you be ok with that coz at least they got the guy ? Drivers like these criminals are scumbags BUT sometimes my man you got to stop the chase to save lives of regular good people. From Australia

@@mikeh8416 I have been a part of a chase in Georgia where the suspects tried this and once they started trying to hit other drivers and officers, the driver was shot through the door on the interstate. He is paralyzed now and told us he drove like that because around Atlanta, they stop chasing.

I’ve lived in Georgia off and on for 35 years. I was born in Valdosta and now I live 2 blocks from the hospital where I was delivered. My best advice to anyone who isn’t from here:
DO NOT fuck around with GSP because you WILL find out if you do. You won’t win. Just pull over, put your hands on the wheel where they can see them, follow their order and most importantly, SHUT UP unless you’re directly answering a non-incriminating question (identifying information).
I’ve been pulled over 6 times by GSP in my life, 3 with other people and 2 on my own and I’ve never seen anyone I was with get a ticket, and I’ve never received one either. Drive like you have sense and act like an adult if you do get pulled over and you will be fine.
You will never outrun them.
There is a reason gsp has their own UA-cam channel.
They WILL pit you going 100+ mph.
I always watched cops when my kids were growing up. They asked me once why I watched it and my reply was. To teach you that you can't outrun a radio signal. They'll always find or catch you.

Wasn’t a GSP Challenger. It was a MCCD (Motor Carrier Compliance Division) who are under the GSP. They inspect commercial trucks but also run radar but will chase and pit you too. They wear a darker uniforms. You can see a trooper or two that come into the frame wearing the light blue shirt and grey pants. The Night Hawks of the GSP wear dark uniforms though.

Nah they gotta secure the suspect first. Never know if they have a weapon. In this case he did. If the suspect is willing to drive into head on traffic. Who's to say he's not willing to jump out the car with a gun.
