With the Apple one needs to dedicate a port for 10GB Ethernet and to carry around a separate box. Reminds me of the Apple implementation of Ethernet on the first Mac computers that were limited to 256 kbps as Apple went cheap on the chipset they used.
Very informative video. Pro-tip for the flash-frame issue throughout the video in FCPX. Make your life easier and get in the habit of cutting 2-3 frames off the front & end of your clips on each end. I have that in my muscle memory and it stops all the flash frames (for my day-gig, I edit about 10-15 short videos a day, and have for about a decade.) FCPX is annoying for this, and it's EXTREMELY evident when you're changing the speed / re-timing a clip. Other than that, great stuff, keep it up!
Both have been working fine so far. I haven't seen any issues issues that made me think one was better. The only issue i've ran into was the naming of the adapter disappeared when I did an upgrade to OSX, But this happened on both and an issue with the OS or not the adapter. If i had to choose, I would get the CalDigit, mainly bc I think the heatsink is better with more fins, and it has rubber feet that lift the adapter off the ground allowing for better airflow.
I just picked up one of these adapters, and it won’t maintain a connection with my 10G switch. If I watch the network ports in preferences, I can see the port rapidly connecting and disconnecting over and over until the connection quits. I’m using cat.8 cable and I’ve tested several Thunderbolt cables in case that was an issue, but the same thing keeps happening. I’m probably going to send the thing back. But thought I would ask if you have any other troubleshooting tips before I do that. Unfortunately the tech support from OWC had very little to offer beyond swapping cables. Thank you.
Try to unplug the ethernet cable from the adapter, unplug the adapter. Then plug the adapter back in and at last plug in the ethernet. Check in system preferences if the driver is loaded. Looks like M1 mac have trouble with aquantia aqc107 chipsets
I am seeing two new services created in Network. One says Thunderbolt Bridge with a "Thunderbolt Icon" the Other Says Thunderbolt Ethernet with an "Ethernet icon". Do I need to keep the "Thunderbolt Bridge" service? It says it's "Not connected" while "Thunderbolt Ethernet" says "Connected".
I do not have any issues with this adapter on Big Sur 11.2.3 besides the standard of it getting warm. Often it'll disconnect and i figured out it was too hot so put a fan on it, and also a bad cable.

Great video! I had no idea that you've only put a few videos out. Keep up the good work and thanks for the info!

Same here. Any luck?
@@dub112001 I ended up using the OWC Pro Dock with a 10G port which solved the problem.
@@waveland thank you for the response
My device cannot connect to M1 Mac Mini macos 11.4, the system can find the device, but it cannot be driven. Is there any way?please

I have connected Device Successfully showing in device Manager in USB Section, but LED is not illumating/BLINK. Can you guide on this?
is there an updated version of this thing that also works with the new M1 M1 pro processors?
do you know if it's possible to tear this one down like you can with the sonnet solo?
So when a hard drive is connected to this, it functions like a NAS rather than a directly attached hard drive?
Do you have any issues with this adapter on Big Sur 11.2.3? I need to unplug and plug back my OWC 10GbE every time I restart my Mac to get it working.

Will the adapter work with thunderbolt 4 2020 M1 MBP?
I'm trying to get an Akitio one to work with an M1 laptop now and if it doesn't I'm gona freak out
I bought 2 they both overheated and died in with one day of use.
NOT SUPPORT M SERIES MAC! No doubt! , unstable! Discount itself all the time! the problem maybe on M series Mac side ,or on OWC side.
15 min of mostly useless information and 1 minute of actually testing and useful information.
Sounds about right.
thanks for video, but yes, too much speaking..
