The ramen water stuff is scented, I think. I just watched someone who got some for free (and went to one of those Sweet Suite type events) and the scent was vaguely related to the doll theme.
The water gimmick is so nasty but I guess they can't capture kid's attention without a gimmick these days. If I ever do buy one I will just unbox her dry.
