Great Barr Revisited

- A short drive around the area of Great Barr, Birmingham, taken on November 5th 2011.
This is the area where I grew up during the 70s and early 80s and have SO many happy childhood memories of ... hence the various childhood references, etc!
It wasn't made with the intention of sharing on youTube but, as I've only returned on a handful of occasions, it was nice to have a little drive around and grab a recording of what's changed since we left in December 1983. I figured I might as well upload it for the benefit of anyone who'll either appreciate 1) an alternative to Google's offering via Street View, or 2) perhaps enjoy talking a virtual tour of an old stomping ground from afar :)

BORN , 1941 IN BRUM. MOVED ALL OVER THE PLACE, INCLUDING MELVERLY GROVE, JUST OFF THE KINGSTANDING ROAD, I THOUGHT YOU WERE HEADING THAT WAY, INSTEAD OF DOWN GOODWAY. THE ''GOLDEN HIND' WAS ME DADS FAVOURITE PUB, POST WAR. ENJOYED THIS RIDE A LOT. HOW ATTRACTIVE THE VARIOUS HOUSE STYLES STILL LOOK, BUILT BETWEEN THE WARS. AND I'M SO GLAD THE TREES STILL DECORATE THE AREA.AND WITH FAR MORE POSH CARS, THAN WHEN I WAS A KID.
Oh dear my patch! Lived in Hawthorn Rd, Cardinal Wiseman School in the 60’s - Brooklyn Tech after that. Golden Hind my favourite pub for a while in the mid 70’s. Finally we moved away in 1986 but that area is still “home”.

If you realise something this is 12 years ago, compare the cars, the amount of luxary cars on the streets now compared to then is baffling. It reallly shows the impact of social media on the world. All you need is a german car and a instgram account and the foundations of a false image is created.

LOL My niece used to live above the Golden Fish Bar, PMSL. Did I spot the Golden Hind pub? Whats the sliding gate about at Andrew Court? Is it to keep people in or out? LOL
I use to live in great Bart booths lane for 20 years now moved out of Birmingham
