Honestly, next to everyone else's OTT characters it does made me laugh watching someone who gives little to no fucks to the insanity thats going on around him

@Justin Godlewski depends on which version of the anime you are watching, there's Japanese words written on the cards in the sub, but the dub has the image and the symbol on the bottom, but words were added on the cards in the dub version of dark side of dimensions
In japanese version there are descriptions.
To be fair other than Ra, the animators never put words on the yugioh cards.

Joey's a good enough duelist. The problem really with him is that his wins are more to luck because that's pretty much what his entire deck is filled with. Those high risk, high reward type cards that either give him a huge advantage or fuck him over so hard he's gotta file a lawsuit for sexual assault.
That is true, Joey's deck is all luck. Skull Dice, Graceful Dice, Time Wizard time roulette, roulette spider, and much more. And since Joey is a main character, he always has good luck because as littlekuriboh will say in a few episodes, he has "bullshit main character powers."

This is why they always have him face off against cheaters. Well, the normal kind of cheating, not Millennium Item cheating.
JOey is pretty balanced in term of luck. He usually starts off with a lot of bad luck then his good luck starts. Also, unlike Kaiba and Yugi who has good cards that has high reward without risk, Joey is poor and stick with weaker gambling types

Well, Atem did summon Ra knows how many giant hairy balls (aka Kuriboh) on the battlefield whenever he uses multiply...even though it's only supposed to summon 5 at max.

Anyone wonder that Hermos is a tad underpowered compared to Critias and Timaeus at first appearances? Critias transforms into a virus-infested dragon, Timaeus becomes a knight mount (with the Dark Magician Girl as the knight!) while Hermos...transforms into weapons. Okay, there's some gimmicky utility behind them, but still.
Also, Joey not turning the sequence of him pulling the sword out of Hermos into an innunedo-loaded charade was surprising, considering what happened with Atem and Kaiba!

Actually watching with subtitles is even more hilarious than usual.
Abriged Series is going to be great when it gets to the Memory Arc.
1. Seto Kaiba doesn't believe the idea that a super model "Kisara" would fall in love with him rather than his money. By the end of the series, he goes looking for "Kisara".
1b. Seto ponders that we'll meet again one day and thinks that Mokuba = Kisara
2. When Yami goes into the afterlife, he thinks he's meeting his Egyptian comrades but actually goes to hell. You can hear his painful calls for his friends to comeback and save him.
3. Yami calls Zorc hax.
