humans in the boiling isles seem to be ultimately seen as fragile and too good. while nobility seems to hold a bigger prejudice of human inferiority, its possible that this mightve come from somewhere such as the very top (belos)
I offer this theory: Belos likely rose to power amidst a wave of sentiment against wild magic that he stirred up, posed himself as the center of a cult of personality to deal with it, became Emperor, and pursued a two-fold objective of absolute political power and persecution of wild mages as both his means and ends. Note that he wasn't interested in absolute power per se. He left a lot of parts of society to run themselves, only concerned with them the moment he saw them as a threat to his rule, which - barring his objective - was largely for its own sake. It's a stripped down "weak" fascist government, but his had a unique twist: it had no intention of lasting beyond his life, nor was there a delusion of long-term anything. But I understand the difficulty in defining fascism. It is honestly more defined by what it is not.
I love the idea or theory that the reason why even the most toxic characters on the boiling isles are supportive of lgbt+ rights, is because when Bellos first arrived on the isles he realized that if people were encouraged to be aro, ace, or gay, then he would have less witches to kill later. Meaning that the whole reason they so accepting was caused by a man who wanted to destroy them, it shows that good can come from evil
Really good video analysis. I believe that the Boiling Isles is fascist, but at least many of the characters are fighting against it. The only characters that seem to sympathize with the fascist government would be Kikimora and Amity's mother, since even Hunter is slowly turning against Belos. It's important to consider that the society in the Boiling Isles wasn't always this way. We know that the coven system wasn't always around and Belos has only been in power for a couple of decades according to the show. A lot of modern kids shows seem to display some form of fascism. However, I think Star vs the Forces of Evil is more overlooked when it displays fascism. Would you consider the society in Svtfoe to be fascist? I mean their society matches a lot of the the 14 characteristics. What do you think?
3:47 Do you want me to define fascism for you? Because i can, and i take it right from the mouth of the inventor of fascism, Benito Mussolini: Fascism is the idea that an entity or a concept, be it a state or a race, or a god, whatever it is is more important then the people making up said group. Thus follows that the individuals in said group must sacrifice for the benefit of the group, be it their rights, their individuality and ultimately their life. All purpose has to be to further the state, and nothing may deviate from it. Therefore: 1.: Everything must be within the state The state must hold absolute control over every entity, be it financial, economic or recreational. Every newspaper and Mediaorganisation must be controlled and directly support the state. 2.: Nothing without the state As in #1, nothing may exist without state control. No independent agencies, clubs or groups may exist. 3.: Nothing against the state As it follows anything that goes against the state is a no-go. In other words, a fascist wants to control your entire life, watch you all the time, doesnt let you have any moment of freedom alone with your thoughts and you may never oppose nor be neutral with his or her cause. You must follow the purpose to the bitter end and reduce yourself to a cog in this great machine that he has built, or you are a disrupting element that must be excised, lest it corrputs the entire construct. See? Its not that hard.
i saw belos as a fascist due to the fact that he persecutes wild witches he sees them as criminals and just little bit like the holocaust he pretty much kills witches with you guessed it, a machine i thought of this in a car for some reason it just appeared when i was going for a take out but i thought he was fascist because of the way he treats wild witches im also glad that i get to see toh on a more political perspective
