    When I was growing up being a Maroon was never something I advertised. It wasn’t something be celebrated because everyone though we were just poor, country bunking, bush ppl😆. But we fell for that narrative because we didn’t know our history and understood the strength of our people, nor did we know the contribution we made to the freedom of the entire diaspora.
    Now that I’m an adult and have learned about my people I couldn’t be more proud to have maroon blood running through my veins.
    I hope all the Maroons will unite and once again show the colonizers, even if they are wearing black faces today (sell out puppet government) that we are a force to be reckoned with. We did before, and united we WILL do it again. 🇯🇲

    These Jamaican Maroons intermarried with the Arawak people, and established distinct independent communities in the mountainous interior of Jamaica. They survived by subsistence farming and periodic raids of plantations. Over time, the Maroons came to control large areas of the Jamaican interior.[27]

    This man does not convince me he has a seat at the table.
    Very honestly he sounds like an excited student guild president versus the leader of a people.
    Where is the strength and credibility of the people who will serve with him, his government?
    What resources does he have in place to extract value from the plants he's mentioned?
    How wants to make the Maroons great again by focusing on agrarian and cottage industries? In 2021?
    How will you leverage your years in finance to acquire funding for your people to excel?
    Stupid people bout him look good like that can feed his village.
    You dont need protectionism as much as you need collaboration.

      Spanish give them that name because of freedom they are from African decent, God didn't give that name but as you know many ppl give themselves names to separate from other culture, lifestyle etc

    • @moniquemcculloch6577
      @moniquemcculloch6577 3 роки тому +8

      There are many names given to many ppl, things, animal and places that God did not name. However it is necessary to be able to differentiate hence forth the given names ie - fully dunce: a set of ppl who are illiterate and are determined to remain that way. Ie - caucasian: white Did God make those names for ppl? No.

      Yes my brother, you are on the right path. Eco tourism is one of the great way to make financial gains for the community without disturbing the land. Many of our ancestors are buried on the land and they should not be disturbed.
      As you rightly said, this treaty of granting the land extended forever and ever, so that decendants can access. This land can not be sold, this land can not be leased. The land from the original treaty was for the people to plant food to feed themselves and to live.
      This land is not for commercial gains where investors can come in and buy it out.please do not take any money from the government where they can call in the loans. Be diligent because the crows are circling , just waiting for you to look weak and then pounce on you.
      It would not be far fetched to also look to see what spain might owe to the Maroons.

    • @trishnewman910

      @prestonmatthews725 3 роки тому +15

      Whilst you've made one valid point about them not being "indigenous" . He is right in claiming sovereignty based on the treaty signed. Sovereignty denotes "supreme power or authority" which alludes to that which is enshrined in the treaty. You all need to stop this crab inna barrel mentality wid unno badmind self!

      @@prestonmatthews725 badmind???
      That treaty that was signed for “supreme power or authority” was between the maroons and the British during colonial times. When Jamaica gained independence All of Jamaica was unified under one flag. No treaty was signed between them and the independent Jamaican government.
      If they are indeed independent why is it that they use the Jamaican passport?
      Jamaican water?
      Jamaican electrical power?
      Our government cut and pave all roads to and from that area.
      do not confuse a formality for independence...
      Bring credible information to me and prove to me that they are independent and I’ll accept that I’m wrong...
      Hurling insults just proves that you are unable to improve your argument.
      If thats all you can do Please don’t even reply.
