Steve is clearly a really lovely man, and loves boating. Good for him that he wasn’t afraid to try some alternatives and return to his true love. I am not a sailboat fan, but his new boat is gorgeous. Congratulations to Steve and Jan. Nick, it would be fun to check back in with some of your interviews and see where they are at in future. We get to know them a little bit, and it would be very enjoyable to see their progress. I really enjoyed this edition. Thank you! PS, Steve must LOVE paying taxes….lol.
Thought steven was OK to start with obviously more money than sense but now he's really done it !!! Said he liked getting somewere fast in the 38gt that's what we love !!! Now he will have to leave a week before he gets anywhere !!! Be in a cat next week lol !!
Nick more of these please, whether boats, cars, motor homes or planes always a pleasure to listen to enthusiastic owners. Good on Steve for not compromising his boating pleasure.
Well I didn’t see that coming!! Steve’s analysis as to why they chose each boat is so helpful and thoughtful. Great MTO and a great video! Thanks for sharing this, Nick!
Thanks for posting Nick, love your videos. Massive difference in the owners body language from last post, think he is now in his happy place, good luck to them both.
Now thats a couple that really tests things out. It might not be the most economical way, but in the end they find the right solution for their needs. Very interesting interview, and the I really like the humor that Steve has, whitch compliments you, Nick, with all of your warm humor 😀
Steve and Jan are clearly making their boating life exactly what they want, which has to be the way to go. Really enjoyable to hear about their journey, boat choices and plans. Brilliant as usual Mr B, thank you.
Great video. One can say: a very passionate owner. Windermere? What a logistic challenge to get the 48 there and get it to the south again. Please keep up the superb quality, Nick. If you ever come over to the south of Holland … 😊
Brilliant video and so interesting to hear why someone would choose powered and why some would choose sail! Thanks for bringing us this and have great weekends one and all!
Would be nice to follow their adventures with short "We've just docked in ..." videos. Certainly for passing on tricks and tips for sailing into different waters / marinas 😃
I love this progression. Kind of in the market and the thought of how much fuel I would burn gives me pause and makes me keep thinking about a sailboat with nice tender to get around my little bay might be right. 😂
Nick, could you let them know, that for a good reliable in mast Furling Battenless Triradial Sail is available from several Sailmakers now. Triradial = Recovers most of the power lost from not having battens, but compared to a Crosscut Dacron with battens, the Batten less Triradial an last ten times longer, or even more, depending on the Sailcloth and Stitching used.Properly designed in Reefing points dramatically improve Sail Life as well, which also applies to a Triradial Genoa. Part Furling a Crosscut Sail can literally wreck the Sail Shape, within a couple of hours believe it or not. Hence I’ve gone all in on Triradial for Furling, and now that awful Mylar is being ditched from Laninates, a laminated Polyester Reaching Code Zero from Ullman Sails, is starting to look Really attractive. Makers of Battenless Triradial Sails include - Precision Sails, Quantum Sails, Ullman Sails, and Elvestrom Sails, and others may have also started making them . The days of “ Sorry we only do battened Sails” thankfully appear to be over. Battens = Chafing Wear and Tear, increased risk of jamming in the Mast Furling slot and reduced Sail Life.Triradial costs from about double the Crosscut cost, but for about from 5 to 20 times longer potential service Life, depending on materials used. The best materials, can apparently last for the life of the boat, but are really expensive. Personally, I think I’d prefer a cost effective Compromise to keep the sails inspected and serviced professionally pretty regularly tbh. Best Wishes. Bob.❤
Best Wishes, Fair Winds, and Safe Travels to them you and everyone Nick, the Coastal Route well into the Continental Shelf using the Atlantic Coast of France, Northern Spain, and Portugal down to Gibraltar really is a drop dead gorgeous route to take. Once South of the Latitude of Le Mans, the Weather tends to pick up nicely as well. Bob who is bonkers about Northern Spain and Portugal, after working there for years. Galician morning coffee with a shot of Aguardiente in it ❤❤❤
Wife and I were on one of these 2 months ago, very nice boats indeed. Thanks for bringing this to all of us. The light oak seems to make it look a bit more spacious and open compared with the darker wood that was on the one we were on,
Another great vid - thanks Nick and Steve!! (Although when Steve said 'I'm currently on a zero-hours-contract' I just about spat my wine out)!! He buys new boats more often than most people buy new shoes 🙂
Steve & Jan certainly made a good decision. Steve sounds the type of person you could have a right good evening with over a few beers. I would be a powerboat voter, but I always marveled at the space in a yacht of the 35-45 foot range. Imagine if you had that on a power boat; if you didn't mind the extra fuel usage from the extra beam. There is reason for the average of 3:1 on length / beam ratio on a powerboat. I was surprised to hear a boat of that length was on Windemere, as you say about ten miles long. On Lough Derg on the river shannon there are quite a few big yachts, but they have twenty eight miles to play with and wide navigation channels. Its deep too for the most part. I wish them the best of luck. Its really a lovely boat.
Great video as always - excellent to hear a boating enthusiast clearly articulate the difference between sail and power at different stages of life :) Hope Steve received the customary Aquaholic branded wine holder off camera !!
Ahh, many happy memories visiting 'aunty' on the shore of Windermere. The place gets in your soul ... very interesting journey these folks have. Saving 'a grand' each way opens up so much range. Way to go 👍 ... 🇬🇧
Wow that wind is just howling. Brave man to be out there on the boat, even in port. Better than being out to sea though. When I was a deckhand on a Benetti 160 we were anchored offmthe coast of Croatia and a storm came over land and then proceeded to swoosh down the mountain, picking up speed and smashed into us which dropped the temperature about 20° F and swung the whole yacht around. It was already late fall, and about 75° already soon to plummet to around a chilly 53°. The owners were out on jet skis and immediately had to come in because of the cold and the wind. Stayed like that for 2 days and it was just insane. It went from mimosas and frozen margaritas to hot chocolate and movie nights. They didn't want to go in and we were relatively safe. The sound of that wind howling was eerie and made you think that snakw was pouring in
Yes it takes great bravery to stay on boat in middle of protected marina, what a hero... Well as somebody from Croatia I can tell you that weather that you experienced on yacht is very normal on adriatic sea in fall and winter, a lott of people think its safe becouse its not big ocean, but it can turn really bad here. Just watch video on yt "wind in croatia" it trows trucks around
What a very nice guy and i totally get him, i am a sailing man but tried power and went back to sail again, but i found the Swift Trawler to be a great compromise, great on fuel compared to a lot of power boats, you get a great range at 6 knots and its simialr pace to a sail boat, it also can take a reasonable sea way. Also its a Beneteau. It could be what Steve is looking for after his 48.
Oooo Ooo Ooo It has a Mast ! Deep Joy. Yes I know I’m Sailboats Mad, but it’s so much Fun I’m not seeking a Cure. Now back to watching the video. Bob.❤

The star of this show is .... the Hallberg-Rassy next to it. Sorry :) No, she's a lovely boat, no doubt. And Steve seems to definitely appreciate having her. Thanks for the upload!
Steve's come back from the dark side! In all seriousness, Steve and Jan were brave enough to try something different and learnt what they love. Good luck to them.
Wow, I quite like the grey V class Princess on the next pontoon. I suppose each to their own. I hope he has fun sailing to his chosen destinations. That's boating for you dilemma, dilemma. Yacht brokers must love guys like him😄. I hope all goes well. I wouldn't be surprised that he returns to motor boating at some stage........We shall see. Not this year though!!!!
Great interview and Steve seems to be a very knowledgeable man when it comes to boating..................but Nick you gave us a scare !!!😀 For a moment we were thinking you are thinking of going into blow boating yourself and we cannot imagine that. We will try to keep you on the straight path, we will help you. We are all counting on you. Keep up the good job ! 🤣😀👍
I am indecisive between Oceanis 45 and 48. I will be mostly sailing solo and mostly in France, Italy, Sardinia, Balearics where the marinas are the most expensive. So I wonder whether 48 offers enough additional value to justify the higher operating and marina costs…
Well, I didn't see that coming Nick .... I foresaw a Trawler style boat. Very beamy boat for the length (lots of space). I wouldn't want to be berthed next door to him.😉
I really love that noise of a sailing boat on a pontoon in the wind. It reminds me of nights aboard my own boat. Perhaps Aquaholic could release a few hours of this noise to help us landlocked insomniac sailors get to sleep?
I sensed he was fed up with the fuel bills but didn’t know he was sailor. I’m a life long sailor and found even a large RIB’s fuel bills eye watering. Love being wind powered but respect those that don’t.
It's a lovely boat but I found all the running gear and angles exhausting after a while. Hope he enjoys it and look forward to his transition back to power in a couple of seasons 😉😄
Windermere Lake 10 miles long! Massive you say! We have conservation lakes that are basically dammed rivers for flood control that are bigger. Lots of them that size only permit small sail boats & canoes with no powerboat options not even small 12\14 ft. fishing boats. One could hardly rig the sails on that boat on a windy day, no wonder he sold it.😮
Haha I have to say I’m a bit gutted he’s back to sail boats but I totally get the logic. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if next year he’s got a sunseeker superhawk 48!😂
Having seen the damage done by the storm in the Channel Islands JERSEY being hit hard hope his father is ok it’s been horrific damage to boats too wouldn’t want anything to happen to this amazing boat more storms are due over weekend and Week ahead more Damaging gales again 🥺🥺
That Saildrive sounds like the ZF drive, which means the Yanmar diesel must be at least 80 horsepower to have it rather than the not good Yanmar Saildrive ? Must admit I’m not a Fan of the Rotating version personally- probably due to being very over Cautious though I must admit. 🤔Bob.❤
Well I did not see that one coming looks like he got a very good bargain and that looked like a cheese sandwich in fridge did you pinch it when he wasn't looking lol

Loving these meet the owners lately , great content nick
Thank you!
What a nice guy! Very nice boat as well...
What a lovely fella, his plans sound really exciting.
Fascinating man and his take on boat choices. But if your hard work has been blessed enough to give you choices, then make your choices.
Well I didn’t see that coming!! Steve’s analysis as to why they chose each boat is so helpful and thoughtful. Great MTO and a great video! Thanks for sharing this, Nick!

Thank You so much Steve and Jan for allowing us on your Boating Journey. Truly fascinating.
Thanks Nick and keep tabs on Steve as I reckon a series is brewing.🙂

Stephen did look at a Beneteau Swift Trawler for the reasons you suggest, a good compromise.
@@AQUAHOLIC I thought he may have in all honesty.

Nick, what was the white Aquaholic thing on four legs? I’m guessing some kind of glass/bottle holder?
Correct, a glass holder.
Hello, could the owner tell me how long the bench's in the cockpit are? Thank for an answer, Norman from Berlin in Germany

Hmmm ....
Which new boat is Stephen buying in the Spring ...?? Ahem ...
I'd have a word with the chap next door who doesn't know how to quiet his halyards.
Nick as you're into watches... what watch is he wearing, any idea?
Not a clue I'm afraid!
We should all take a vote on how long he will have the working sailboat. I'll give him 6 months to a year. 🍷
Steve actually hates boats, but loves being featured on Aquaholic. 😂
😂
Well I did not see that one coming looks like he got a very good bargain and that looked like a cheese sandwich in fridge did you pinch it when he wasn't looking lol
11.23 miles long
Brilliant
But I give it 13month max it will be gone 😂😂
Enjoy keep us posted
Someone needs to secure their halyard lines to their mast
Great guy who must have so much money he can't make up his mind! I wonder what he'll own in 2014?
He'll need to own a time machine first! 😉
Wonder what boat he'll have next week..? 😂
Maybe I'm weird, but it looks a bit corporate hotel for my taste.
