The Cleveland Hopkins airport was opened on 1 July, 1925 and was the first USA airport to be owned by a municipality. The first flights were mail deliveries for the U.S. Mail Service. Other firsts include the first radio-equipped air traffic control tower in the USA, the first airfield to install an airfield lighting system in the US, and the first ground-to-air radio control system in the USA.
