In 2014, the Ukrainian grubberment began shelling East Ukraine from the airport there, Donbas, they took over the airport and began shelling and rocket firing the city. It hasn't stopped since. East Ukraine wanted to be part of Russia, Crimea invited Russia in, it wasn't invaded or annexed. That's why Russia finally went in and clearly stated their intentions... to defend the civilians in that area.

But we know all this, or at least those of us who don't have our heads in a very dark place. BTW, speaking of Russia, over the past months, I've been reading a lot of history on Russia and the old Soviet Union to better understand how communism took hold there. "A People's Tragedy: The Russian Revolution: 1891-1924" (Orlando Figes) provided good detail of the people and events from the end of the Romanov era through the Bolshevik Revolution and its early years, but it stopped short of the Stalin period so I pressed on. "Stalin: Paradoxes of Power, 1878-1928" and "Stalin: Waiting for Hitler, 1929-1941" (Stephen Kotkin) were great reads for trying to get my head around who Stalin actually was and the events surrounding the absolutely staggering level of murder he committed on his own people through both famine and political persecution. (Apparently a third volume on Stalin covering the WWII period is still in the works and not yet released. I'll read that one, too, when it comes out.) And finally, and most breathtaking of all, "The Gulag Archipelago" (all volumes) by Solzhenitsyn (I'm on the last volume now). When possible, I prefer to read books written by the people who were actually there, who saw it, who lived it, and Solzhenitsyn's first-hand account, plus the stories he gathered of the experiences of other zeks, fleshes out (quite literally) the full and gruesome meaning of the shopworn phrase "man's inhumanity to man." Hitler gets all the focus for his atrocities, at least in the West, but verily Stalin was Hitler cubed. If the sheep in this country think it can't happen here, they are halfway to the slaughterhouse already.
Wow! Thank you for stating this information. I get frustrated when people mention hitler's holocaust, when stalin killed WAY more people under his rule than hitler did. Yes, what hitler did was horrible, but Stalin? And we were allied up with him. Makes me sick thinking about it. I get irritated with people who think it can't happen in America. I'm seriously getting tired of people that don't read history. They know something's wrong, but as someone said, they don't want to take the time to figure it out and research. I was looking at the bag on the wall behind you. It reminded me of the pump organ I have. It operates using bellows. I just watched a player piano being restored. Lots of bellows. They don't nec have to be leather but someone who can work with those materials could also make bellows. There are antique camera bellows. I've watched lots of Russians on youtube in Russia and Ukraine. Gives you a different perspective. People are great and unspoiled by "stuff".
