So glad Belle is showing her military chops to those who think she and her lady brain aren't qualified to speak about military matters.

That was my first thought, Trump appointing another acting high level official (Mike Flynn?) to do his bidding without the consent of the Senate.
As someone who has never been comfortable with the idea of the U.S. military force being used against domestic threats (real or perceived), it's disheartening to imagine a situation in which we would have to rely on the military disobeying their commander in chief in order to save democracy.

I have read somewhere along the way that a certain national leader's MO is to appoint someone to a position but then "persuades" them to break the rules, take bribes etc. Then, if they don't toe the line, they suddenly find themselves the subject of raids and "shock revelations about criminal activities." Now, who else do we know likes that ruler, doesn't like rules and is known to do naughty things on a regular basis??? 🤔🤐

Well, that's reassuring, sort of. I mean, Trump would become emperor if he, the Republicans in Congress, and his hand picked Supreme Court could figure out a way to ram that through. I haven't noticed much in the way of Republican approved guard rails lately.

I appreciate your service. My daughter is getting ready to retire as an Army LT Col with 24 years service(3 years enlisted Navy and 21 years as Army officer). In that time she has earned her Doctorate in physical therapy and her masters degree in Healthcare Administration. She current works for the DHA. I am extremely proud of her.

We as service members always have the right and duty to disobey an order that we reasonably believe to be unlawful. Even if this directive actually allowed us to engage civilians in the way the alarmist say, none of the people I serve with would do so without some pretty damn compelling reasons.
The military of the US is comprised of many individuals. The majority are most likely to act as you observe. But when you have any large group of individuals some will act differently than the majority. Putting on a uniform does not magically confer sainthood.

As military members are MORE constricted than the police (many don't know the order of how they work).

As a retired Canadian boomer with a wide range of hobbies and interests I’m subscribed to a number of YT channels, one of which is a married couple whose conversations offer a delightfully entertaining insight into their relationship. Several years ago the wife made very clear the reasons for her decision to remain off camera. Long time viewers of these channels certainly understand Beau’s situation, but I can’t be the only one holding out hope for at least an occasional voice over?

No kidding, I concur! Service all day long. It is very impressive and something we can be thankful for.
German infantry officer here: there are very, very, very few cases when a modern military is used within the country’s borders, unless for military defense against an attacker from the outside. One of the exceptions covers the use of manpower and heavy equipment in case of natural disasters. Never the use of weapons against the populace.
And from what I've heard, the German military is probably the one that is, for pretty obvious historical reasons, most meticulous about not following illegal orders.

Big concern here in the us are weapons used against the populace by a subsection OF the populace who grant themselves (unconstitutional) powers. Then add a wannabe dictator who will point them in his desired direction. It might get ugly soon, but that subset will be defeated, at the ballot box & hopefully not in the streets.

The military doesn't have to engage in support of domestic police departments. The police departments are already outfitted like the military. That's the posse comitatus workaround.
How much armament does the US military provide to local police forces? And how many members of those local PD’s view themselves as some sort of military units? We, as a country, have really taken our eye off the ball on what local law enforcement can and should do.
Police departments are definitely NOT outfitted like the military. Sure, they might get some old armoured vehicles without the guns but that's another issue.
Why would ostensible adults get their news from god damned internet memes in the first place? How is it possible to be so uninformed that you misread the intention of a directive so bad that came to the literal opposite conclusion? I just have so many questions here.
I have a lot of problems with modern policing. I have a lot of problems with the way we view justice in the US. What I have no problem with is baseless cartoon paranoia that the military is going to smoke me for a speeding ticket. Because I'm not an idiot.
@@brianmccollaum5489 Too many police (on both the individual and department level) view themselves as separate from the general population. Note how many of them refer to non-police citizens as "civilians." That is correct, but using that word in the context the police use it in allows them to distinguish themselves from the general population. But, unless they're on active military duty (reserve or guard doesn't count!), police are civilians also, even though some of them might not like being reminded of that.
@@bobfg3130 The list of items the military has given to local PD’s far exceeds what you claim. This includes the use of armored personnel carriers (APCs), assault rifles, submachine guns, flashbang grenades, and sniper rifles.

I've never served but have had friends who have and I have worked for companies that supply the US military. My take away about working with them has always been their rules, layers and contingencies. Sometimes annoying but not hasty or without planning.
