Looks good! My guess as to why it took so long to come out (something like FIVE YEARS!) is because of something called "feature creep". That is, as playable versions were produced, Dan decided to add "just one more thing" and this loop happened over and over again. It's an easy trap to get stuck in when you're trying to really go above and beyond and make a game the absolute best you can make it.
This game is so cute & yes totally reminds me of Keystone Kapers a bit which I LOVE! Plus, the fact that it's designed by Dan Kitchen is awesome! A def must buy for Atari 2600 fans!
Now, that is pretty cool. I agree with that comment that said this is like "Pitfall on a train". I also would've been blown away if I got this as a kid in the 80's. That pocket watch would've been worth the VIP bundle for me and got me seriously thinking. However, as I don't really wear hats, I would've loved to have a bandanna instead of the hat, as I do sometimes wear bandannas. Still, pretty amazing looking game for the 2600, complete with parallex scrolling and a nice variety of enemy characters and little puzzles to solve to find the various access switches.
These people know the customer and they understand the assignment… very well done!! Congrats on this great video Jon 👊🏻🕹️😎 Ps. The graphics are great which is something many 2600 suffered from … and the gameplay of being inside or outside of the box car is next level game design
Not a hater but...i would have hated to open this VIP box. Likely would have bought a standard version to open and kept my VIP sealed for prosperity. Looks absolutely great and fun. Thanks for sharing.
They need to make a sequel to Pitfall 2: Lost Caverns for the Atari 2600. That game was way ahead of its time; it was even better than some early NES games. It took what made the original great and improved on it. With today's technology part 3 would be AMAZING!
Hi, Jon.👋 Wow what a noce pocket watch!😮 Love that keychain cartridge.❤ Nice sealed cartridge & certificate of authenticity. I have never heard of this game before. This is a nice, fun game. See you again in the next one.
Looks like a good combination of Activision games Pitfall and Keystone Kapers. I'm suprised they went with a health bar instead of taking points when you get tripped up.
@@GenXGrownUp Ha! Yeah, appears so. I was going to keep it shrink wrapped and just play the ROM but really want to earn the patches. Game gets really challenging!
It's a bit a paradigm shift buying old carts for $5-$10 to picking up modern games for $50-$100, the cost of a Playstation 5 game. I get why they cost what they cost, and I'm not mad about it, but it does give me pause. Even so, I want this.
Many retro creators are also selling roms for their games for a much cheaper price than the physical version. I'd be up for paying $5 or $10 for a rom, but $50 for an Atari cart is too much for me
I have a question. What ever happened to the intellivision site where you could order intellivision products like T-shirts? You could also order the intellivision Amico.
These are games that I definitely want to try. I just need one of these consoles to play them. Casey's Gold definitely screams Activision. I live in Canada and we have to order from other companies such as Amazon. Also, I have to see if they qualify for the two month government tax break that started today. Physical video games count, digital do not.
Yup it does. Also works on the latest Batocera build Runs on my updated Pow Kiddy RGB30. Basically anything running a recent retro ROM console based on a recent Retro Arch build(like Retro PIE too).
Someone wrote "truly a love letter to 2600 fans". Just checked the website: paypal account required. Seems to be more a love letter to paypal and paypal fans.
@GenXGrownUp I just wanted to say: If this was made for us fans of the 2600 why would they segregate fans that don't have paypal. The inspiration may be their love for the 2600 but this no love letter to all fans. That's all.
@@SGTdeuxdeux I understand, but I don't agree. There's nothing stopping any 2600 fan from using a PayPal account. If you are adamant about not having one, then you're placing that restriction on yourself. By extension, you might argue that fans without a credit card are being discriminated against, but that's also not the case.
What a wonderful thing it is that we can get new games for the classic systems of our youth. From the same programmer/designers as well!
YES! I too would have lost my friggin' mind if this game were around when I was a kid. Pitfall on a train????? YES PLEASE! Excellent review Jon!!
Can you imagine? The stuff they can put on Atari carts now is wild. Would have blown my little mind back then 😂

It's crazy to think that as I get closer to retirement age, the adult programmers of games from when I was a child are still making games today

So there's the scorpion from Pitfall but also the cow skulls from Stampede. Awesome! This is truly a love letter to 2600 fans
Right?
I love this the first game I ever played at home was Combat. Never thought I’d be so excited to play the 2600 again. But I am.
Definitely like you said: My 80s child mind would be blown if this had come out back then. Great review! 😊

Was fun to meet them at PRGE 2024 as I help making the box and label artworks for both this game and Convoy and also there next game.

I like the way the game displays the train car interiors, how it goes black.
I know. Makes them feel a little bit claustrophobic.

Multiple attempts were made of that.

Waited for "Oh yeah! That!" Haven't been that disappointed in a very long time. lol Sooo close but no "That!"
Haha!
Considering the character design and name I imagine he's the brother of Keystone Kelly from Keystone Capers
I now have a sudden urge to play Express Raider by Data East for some reason after seeing that video.
Jealous of all your rad hats!! : D
I sure hope they make games for the NES or SNES. That would be amazing!
Mine got here last weekend! Love the hat and watch.
I still need to buy Alien Abduction and Casey's Gold.
I love this game! Great video. I’m also down with the VIP but mine hasn’t come yet. Have fun with it and enjoy the holidays!
I love the pocket watch.
Looks like a good combination of Activision games Pitfall and Keystone Kapers. I'm suprised they went with a health bar instead of taking points when you get tripped up.
It's a very cool game, remember me Pitfall, Stampede and H.E.R.O. the same time. Great job Jon!!
This is my next order thanks for doing a video there isn’t much out there yet
I'm glad you like it!
Nice choice of "country" music. Thematically appropriate for sure
Thanks. 😉 Searched my music store for "train" songs. I liked this one immediately. 🚂
Just received my VIP Collector's Edition yesterday and I'm # 48 !
We're neighbors! I'm just two doors (trains?) down.
@@GenXGrownUp Ha! Yeah, appears so. I was going to keep it shrink wrapped and just play the ROM but really want to earn the patches. Game gets really challenging!
Those audacity games make me want to buy again some Atari stuff :-)
Thank for the nice video
These are my favorite videos. The box openings.
Yeah!!! You know me!!!
Amazing that game is on the 2600. What could that team do with the 5200 or 7800 I wonder.

These are so great, I just wish you could buy digital roms of these and bootlegs.
🤔
*homebrews not bootlegs
Amazing graphics for 2600 !
Love the picture! What kind of Dynex TV / Monitor are you playing this on, just curious?
Ok my 7800 is hopefully coming soon from amazon. Did those handles come standard with the controller or where did that come from?

Great Game!
Reminds me a lil like keystone kapers
Excellent coverage as usual.
Do Audacity games have 7800 enhancements if plugged into a 7800/+ ?
Thank you. Nothing different in a 7800, but IMHO, this looks more like a 7800-era game than the 2600. Shocking that it runs on that at all!
Who are you keeping the box so minty for that you didn't want to crease the open flap?
Myself.
@GenXGrownUp Yes I like to keep my stuff minty also. Nice video as always!
Will this work on the plus consoles?

Sorry if you mentioned in video i missed it. Was just wondeing if these work on the 2600 plus. Thanks

Those are awesome games
How much are those games ?
That would have been a big hit back in the day.
I have a question. What ever happened to the intellivision site where you could order intellivision products like T-shirts? You could also order the intellivision Amico.
Atari purchased Intellivision, and you can now get branded merchandise from their store.

These games must be ordered directly from Audacity. Link in the video description.

@GenXGrownUp Oh, I feared you would see it this way. Self segregation. I would say yes, and no. But thanks for the exchange of ideas .
