I would hazard a guess you had it right at the beginning. Gearbox (cog) issue. I've seen well over a hundred of these type of dashboards with similar problems. All they need is opening and putting back together correctly. The burned stuff you saw is quite normal. Most have this discolouration. Either flux or more likely something there to stop the solder cracking over time. The brownish residue always looks cracked and dodgy. Your resistance measurements are correct for a good set of coils (brushless motor type of an idea). I might have had a couple with genuine faulty motors, the rest were the same scenario as yours. Dash been stripped to fiddle mileage or block out a warning light. The motors go faulty because the idiots are rough and push the needles back on without securing the spindle at the other side. God knows how considering how tight these motors are to get to bits but the stop position on the big cog gets jammed. All it needs is a finger on the other side holding the spindle while pushing the needle back on and there's no problem. Good vid, you got it working again. I wouldn't have thought it would fail again. Forgot to say, I first figured the stop position issue on the first one of these I ever stripped down. I was the original idiot 🧐 (Jesus, another essay 😬)

Great repair as always. But I think that needles should be calibrated after putting in a car. As you can see in the movie, after repair is done the engine speed is showing above 1.000rpm which shoud be around 800-850rpm as it was before repair. Also when you have done needle test with autel the speedometer should go from 0 to 140mph (no over as it goes in your video) and stop at 60mph. But maybe I am wrong. Because when I started it at the end, the car was cold... cold start always holds the revs at bit higher... the revs drop after the cold start is finished... I would never cover over a warning light. Modern snowflake drivers depend on ESP to stay on the road. Furthermore some modern cars (probably not a Golf) have an unstable chassis so they depend on the ESP. if that car was in a crash someone could be in trouble. Not that I blame you as you just returned it how it was. I would do the same.
why u didnt took off the tapes?. i mean, you can give this video as proof that the fault was there at the time that car went into your hand. i honestly felt much better to see the fault light all the time until i got it fixed rather than not knowing there's hidden fault (assuming the previous owner done that bodge job)
Hi I informed the owner, but was not requested to touch it... so... I didn't!... I agree, I would happily have a look at it, to make sure would be proper fixed... but...🤷♂️ Thank you for watching and for your comment!
It was ABS light, right? There must have been some people some could not fix the real ABS system failure (bad bearing, wiring, ABS sensor or such)....so they put tape on the light to get the car through MOT.
Ah... the brake pressure sensor... Depending on how they fail, they are repairable, but require special tools to remove them... As they are kinda pushed in in the modulator...
can any one tell me about the latest ecm,s that update through oem portals and what this means for tunners and eeprom editing will it still be possible to flash at home or are we locked out

Totally normal.
@@ghost37666 hi, happy new year. thanks for your reply. I have another question please. When I turn my ignition on , some computer programming noise coming from under the driving side . May be it come from under the gas paddle or from radio . What that could be ? I been to couple of garage they said it normal.
I would never cover over a warning light. Modern snowflake drivers depend on ESP to stay on the road. Furthermore some modern cars (probably not a Golf)
have an unstable chassis so they depend on the ESP. if that car was in a crash someone could be in trouble.
Not that I blame you as you just returned it how it was. I would do the same.
Yes... I know, I do advise of the issue, then is no longer up to me...
Thank you for watching and for your comment!
I am curious how much you charge for a job like this
Brilliant !
Thanks!
👍👍👍
did you leave the tape off the ESP light so the car fails its mot . least then the car can be repaired to make it safe
he didnt took off the tape sadly. but he might have reason to leave it alone
Correct... I was not asked to touch it... I informed the owner, which did not requested to do anything... so...🤷♂️
👍👍👍
Great video as always good stuff can I ask what u use to de solder plz😀
Hi links in the video description...
Not sure if they are all active... but will give you an idea...😉
Thank you for watching and for your comment!
Good job
Thank you!
why u didnt took off the tapes?. i mean, you can give this video as proof that the fault was there at the time that car went into your hand. i honestly felt much better to see the fault light all the time until i got it fixed rather than not knowing there's hidden fault (assuming the previous owner done that bodge job)
Hi
I informed the owner, but was not requested to touch it... so... I didn't!...
I agree, I would happily have a look at it, to make sure would be proper fixed... but...🤷♂️
Thank you for watching and for your comment!
well, seems like the owner doesnt rly care
Pretty much...
Just like if the car never came with ESP... lol
Only ABS...
Can this problem give P0500 fault code? Pls tell me
Possibly...

😊
Thanks!
very nice
Thanks!
👍👍👍
nice repair, dangerous to drive a car with a faulty ESP because you will have limited control of the car when driving on slippery or icy roads.
True... same as drive a car without esp in first place... lol
Thank you for watching and for your comment!
are the brake sensors fixable?
or must be replace the unit?
Which sensor are you referring to?
It was ABS light, right? There must have been some people some could not fix the real ABS system failure (bad bearing, wiring, ABS sensor or such)....so they put tape on the light to get the car through MOT.
The brake sensors in the esp light!..
@@LMAutoRepairs in the end of video..when you are diagnosed the abs. and you talk about brake sensors.
the unit with damaged sensor is repairable?
Ah... the brake pressure sensor...
Depending on how they fail, they are repairable, but require special tools to remove them... As they are kinda pushed in in the modulator...
can any one tell me about the latest ecm,s that update through oem portals and what this means for tunners and eeprom editing will it still be possible to flash at home or are we locked out
Simple explanation...
You will struggle to access updated softwares... As they are no longer offline...
But you still able to flash at home...
Thank you for watching!
My speedometer is not working properly and gives a total wrong reading! It clocks all the way around when i would be only doing slow speeds. I have brought it to a mechanic 3 times and they cant seem to fix it. Can someone please give me advice on what might the problem be?
You asking what?
mine is not working but is not the motor, when i put power + and _ it moves, when back to the car doesnt. its not the power source of the car, cause i put another dash and it works
How did you tested the replacement/used dash?
Thank you for watching!
