An amazing look back at Sydney's southern suburbs of Rockdale & Brighton Le Sands in the 1940s. We love our area... we love our history L J Hooker Brighton Le Sands
Don't ya just love these old promotional movies on bringing people to a particular area. Whats also great is that you see all modes of Sydney Transport being used in one spot!... Trains, Trams, electric Trolly Busses & Diesel Busses
Thanks for uploading! very interesting for this viewer who grew up a few miles away, and has vivid memories of being stung by jellyfish as a kid near the old "Rockdale Baths". The "Municipality of Rockdale" no longer exists since it was merged into the Bayside Council in 2016. The sea bath now has no jetties or diving boards for older kids to jump off. The "500 acre parkland" must refer to Scarborough Park which is now mostly in Kogarah rather than Rockdale. The Rockdale end of the park must have held the now lost racecourse, polo field and cricket field. That area seems to be filled in with industry, and a nearby section seems to be wasteland waiting either for distributor construction or more development. The bowling club is now a skate park. Of the sports mentioned in the film, only baseball, football and tennis seem to be still operating. So many changes!
I used to go to rockdale trash and treasure market in the 80s miss those days, the vendors at those markets were characters, southside plaza was interesting, wonder if theres any footage out there of the markets
Rockdale was my first suburb when I came to Australia and I lived there for 8 years. I liked that suburb so much so that I wanted to buy a house there but housing prices is sooooooo high there, lol 😂 . Love you, Rockdale forever.
its like looking at a different country, different people, different culture. different world. Australia today is a completely different country. not even recognisable

It's where I grew up and left 34 years ago, and I still feel a particular feel to even though I now live 1000k away.

Rockdale was a beautiful suburb back in the old days.
These people would turn in their graves if they saw what Rockdale is today.

Funny how the stations are built just like in London for instance Crawley
All of London is much uglier than this for the rest
