Welcome back Dave. Great to hear from you again. Max Webster, one of the many Canadian secret pleasures, that we try to hide from our southern friends. Different sound altogether, but another Canadian treasure, is Blue Rodeo. Check out Five Days in July for starters.
I grew up in Northern NY near the border with Canada, and used to listen to a lot of Canadian radio. I remember hearing the song "Battle Scar", it got played a lot on the Canadian stations at the time. Kim Mitchell also had a late 80s hit with the song "Rock n Roll Duty."
Hi Dave, great job. I'm from YYZ and many of these local band guys are friends. I still think of Max Webster as a Canadian Frank Zappa.....ha.....BTW glad I found the new channel after following your old one for years.
Other Canadian bands you check out- - Thundermug (Orbit) Produced by Terry Brown before he produced Rush. Early 70's- creative, heavy and weird! - Zon (Astral Projector) kind like proggy Styx before they went totally commercial - FM (City of Fear and Black Noise) A trio with electric fiddle/mandolin, keys and drums. You'll here a lot of "Signal" was influenced
Chilowack and Prism I totally remember!! That was what rock radio was playing back when I started listening in 82. Miss those days! I also liked Saga and The Sherbs.
If you like late 1970’s and early 1980’s Hard Rock, there are 2 Canadian Bands you should check out: Kick Axe and Moxy. The very first Moxy album featured the Guitar work of Tommy Bolin and later reincarnations of Moxy actually featured Mike Reno later to go onto the Band: Loverboy. Kick Axe was just a really good Band that flew under most peoples radar.
Last month i went to a record store around me and bought some albums. In the stack I bought were two Max Webster albums. One was Universal Juveniles ( the album with Battle Scars on it). And High class in borrowed shoes. As The owner cashed me out she saw the Universal Juveniles album and said I wish people would realize how much of a underrated album this is. I said hell it's a underrated band. It's Kim Mitchell's old band.
Saga is another band who doesn’t get much attentions Michael Sadler is an amazing vocalist and Ian Crichton wow underrated guitarist for sure. Am enjoying the videos as I missed out when your previous channel started. Keep up the good work HDTV Tuning in from 🇦🇺
I saw Max Webster open for Rush in 1977. I rooted for them as their being the underdogs, while the audience in Seattle booed them and chanted for them to "Go back to Canada!" But even though their set was quirky (Like Rush), I listened to them with an open mind and was impressed. Meanwhile people were just waiting for UFO and the headliners to come on, the more "proper" rockers. When I heard "High Class In Borrowed Shoes", I thought, what a cool song. But people were put off by the cover in that resembled 'Sabotage' by Black Sabbath. People liked to think they were "open-minded" back then.
You'll probably hate Max Webster on first listen. Keep going... they might eventually end up being one of your favorite bands. Mutiny Up My Sleeve is an absolutely iconic album.
Yes, Max Webster was a very good Band and Classic Rockers who dug a little bit deeper should know about them but any Classic Rocker that does not know about them should check them out. My opinion, it’s not for everyone.

Kim sure turned into one wild Barney.

I checked out on most new music. Hard to find anything to compare to the 70s,80's and 90s.
