the bears are called dancing bears and they are on a lot of merchandise. they were on the back of an album cover and refer to the band's sound engineer, owsley stanley, whose nickname was bear. he was also famous for making lsd. terrapins - there is an album and song called terrapin station. the lightning bolt is often on a skull and that logo is called a "steal your face" from a lyric "steal your face right off of your head" - which was about a former manager who stole money from them, but fans adapted it as a sort of version of "blowing your mind" in reference to concert experiences. roses are big in grateful dead iconography as well, especially wreathed around a skull, tracing back again to album cover art. so the bears, the skull, the roses, and the bolt are four major grateful dead symbols, it makes sense that they would use them as the suits. a lot of the major arcana archetypes are straight from songs as well. the world card being eyes is straight from the song "eyes of the world". sunflower is from "china cat sunflower". wolf is from "dire wolf". looking at the judgement card, the four winds - all of that is from the song "franklin's tower" - some of the lyrics are "I'll tell you where the four winds dwell In Franklin's tower there hangs a bell It can ring, turn night to day It can ring like fire when you lose your way I'll tell you where the four winds sleep Like four lean hounds the lighthouse keep Wildflower seed in the sand and wind May the four winds blow you home again" there are a lot of deep lyrics in the songs, and the tarot deck creator did a great job of pulling out archetypes and a hero's journey from it.
yes, it came out as an indie version with a great big box and a hardback book. linen cardstock, but it doesn't have the rainbow border, just a gold color. and about 3x as expensive. it's the same deck, it just says official so you know it's approved by the grateful dead company (the band formed its own company and did its own ticket sales and bookings through it way back starting in the 60s.) an iteration of the band called Dead and Company still tours, with john mayer.
I like this deck Simon. I was dubious at first with the name changes but when you read out parts it made sense. It is very deep indeed. I also like the vibrant colours. ❤ Thank you for sharing this deck with us.
Forgot about this coming out! Huge Dead fan. Workingman’s Dead is one of the best albums ever ♥️💀 The best Eyes of the World live is August 6, 1974 in Jersey City, NJ
I like this deck. I am not a deadhead but I really do like this deck. It looks like a fun deck. And edge it in different colors would be cool. Next they will do the Doors Tarot. Which I would get too. 🤭
I grew up with the Grateful dead as my Foster dad was a dead head. I missed the Indie version , so I knew I was going to have to stock this . I think its the best one Insight Editions have done 😊😊😊
I know nothing about The Greatful Dead other than they toured forever and they are the quintessential 'hippy' band, but this is an absolutely gorgeous deck (drop dead gorgeous? 😜) and I'm almost tempted just for the art even if the suits are a bit confusing.
I did not think that I would want this deck at the outset, but the skeletons have won me over...only that though, I don't like the way they are set up.
I need to stop watching your walkthroughs, my list is getting too long 😆 I have always loved the Grateful Dead artwork that I have seen on t shirts etc. so of course I love this! It definitely gives me hippy vibes and who doesn’t love skeletons 😁 This one is going to the top of my wish list 😍❤️
If I were a Deadhead, I'd have this! As I'm not, I won't. File it in with all the fan-based decks like Britney, Golden Girls, and the Insight Editions decks (although this one is more diverse in the imagery).
This is so well done! I'm a Deadhead and this is going on my wishlist. Thank you!
Enjoy! 😍

They sure did! Which has absolutely done it justice!

You’re welcome lovely. I know very little of the band, but the artwork is fantastic! 😍
Definitely not a deadhead but love the artwork and writing.
I bought it after watching this video . I’m very happy with this deck ❤
Hope you enjoy it! 😍
Well that was certainly a trip. I think these would be interesting to work with, to refresh the perspective pf the cards. Definitely provocative.

Oh yes, multi-coloured edging would look fab!
they are so gorgeous that I bought them!
Yaay! Enjoy ☺️
@@the_hermits_cave thank you 😀
Definitely not for me but I will say it's one of the best pop culture decks I've seen
Agreed 👍🏼

While I’m not a dead head I love this artwork. So metal! 🤘I especially like the majors with all the skeletons and groovy colours,
It’s been done so well! Great deck.
This one keep my attention 😉🎉 Thanks for sharing
You’re welcome 😊
I am into the Grateful Dead and bought the indie edition. I will buy the MM version to read with so I can keep the indie version in good condition!!
Great idea! 😍
I am not at all a dead head, but this deck is really cool. I was totally surprised that I loved it😃
Right?!
I know nothing about The Greatful Dead other than they toured forever and they are the quintessential 'hippy' band, but this is an absolutely gorgeous deck (drop dead gorgeous? 😜) and I'm almost tempted just for the art even if the suits are a bit confusing.
Right!
This is the MM version of the indie deck. They are the same. I'm really enjoying this deck and I'm not a Dead Head.
Good to know. Thank you 🙏🏼
I need this deck❤ ❤❤
