Today we'll be Unraveling the Tragic History Of Ooo's Humans - An Adventure Time lore discussion.
Join me as we go over the Humans and how the land of Ooo had a personal grudge against their existence. How they are connected to the mushroom bomb, the lich, the mutants, the oozers, and their importance to the story. We'll also briefly go over specific humans such as Dr. Gross and Minerva and how their choices affected the story as a whole. With all this there's A LOT to go over so I hope you enjoy learning about all of these in this adventure time video!

There's a scene in one of the Island Episodes where you can see (briefly) a statue of one of the people Marcy saved so it's not "stated" in the show but it IS confirmed that yes they are descended from the tribe that Marceline saved in the Stakes Miniseries.

The comics are canon except for season 11, but some events do not happen in the show or contradict it, fortunately via a Ryan North statement it was because Abracadaniel spilled some magic something? I forgot but it implies that Abracadaniel has some transcendence
I love how all its related, because Simon saved marceline, marceline saved the humans, and finn was a direct decendant of those saved humans, who also did help marceline to save simon.
I gotta admit I love it too 😅

When the Lich says in the episode Wake Up "there's only darkness for you and only death for your people" I basically took that as him saying that the humans destiny were to go extinct which if true that's very dark
It is and in a way it's true...
No lich meant oow citizens will all die there his people candy people and vampires will die
The way I thought about that was the lich was right and wrong. Right that one day the universe will grow cold and empty, and one day all life will expire. But as proven by Finn and Jake kicking his arse every time life and humanity no matter how many times knocked down, forced to the brink, and hated by the universe for the mere act of existence gets backs up brushes it self off and ask for another round. I think mankind in adventure time never goes extinct to reflect that idea of hope, that no matter what you can always bounce back from any loss. And if mankind has a power in that show or a strength when compared to all other species is that it has been defeated by war, plague, famine, and the end of days over and over again but still came back from it.

Its crazy to think that most of the things Finn has casually beat up in Ooo would be a death sentence for a normal person
@MirroredVoid na finn isn't stupid. hes rather smart and quite a good tactician. he just lacks education in the knowledge department. but on what things he has learned such as fighting, survival ect he is really good at it.
He got raised by demon and monster fighting people so I think he had the strength to survive
Well Finn is a reincarnating immortal technically a cosmic being sorts with great power, so kinda makes sense he's able to take down such threats.
Finn grew up with Jake and his demon slaying parents. they nurtured him to have those survival skills. that and Finn simply grew up in that kind of harsh environment which was normalized for him to live in. heck he's known for being adventurous. whereas other humans didn't have that privilege and experiences that Finn had.

The Humans story in Adventure Time is one of the only ones where every 25 seconds you have to say "but wait, it gets worse!"

I will say that the founders being the tribe of humans Marceline saved is actually alluded to in the islands miniseries as there is a statue of Two-Bread Tom with an inscription saying “Thanks Two-Bread Tom for being everyone’s cool Dad”. This seems to strongly imply that the humans Marceline saved are the founders. Also I would love to hear you talk about some adventure time comics as your videos are great and informative.
Minerva also uses the same ship Two-Bread Tom's tribe used to leave Ooo, when she brings humans back.
I don't know why this is being treated as "just a theory," it's been confirmed multiple times.
It's worth to be noted that alot of humanoid species seen in the show are pretty much human sub-species that emerged from the radiation. So humanity hasnt totally gone extinct, it just became more diverse. I mean in the end of the which character would you say is more human? Someone like Phill or Dr. Gross?

Considering how different they are from humans, they are already a whole different species or genus or family or even more distant in the taxonomy tree that humans might as well be extinct.
So, saying that humans haven't gone extinct because of them is like saying the ancestor of horses that died out millions of years ago didn't go extinct just because horses exist.

The story of Simon's transformation also serves as a reminder of the importance of compassion and empathy towards those who may be struggling with mental health issues. I mean he kidnaps women to be his wife no amount of mental health problems makes that ok mental health isn't a excuse for bad behavior but it's definitely a reason for it

Ice King isn't Simon. He is a shell of him. The only thing that's remaining of Simon in Ice King is his voice.

Why is Simone/ice king not considered human. I mean just because the crown's magic gives him immortality and powers don't make him not a human anymore. If magic alterations to the body disqualifies you from being human then what about the flower they grew out of his stub
Well the crown specifically turns you into evergreen. By all intensive purposes he should be labeled an elemental but even then some still consider him human

@@Mgalllll if i were to guess, its because the crown is tied to the OG gunther's wish and he cared a lot abt evergreen or wtv, so the crown acts the same and refuses to let its wearer pass away
@@Mgalllll Well, I guess you could interpret that as the crown making you "be" Evergreen. If you're dead, you wouldn't "be" Evergreen anymore. So the crown basically keeps you Evergreen forever.
Personally I'd argue they either A: Got "assimilated" into the people of Ooo (remember all of the main continent people are basically the heavily mutated descendants of any humans that stood on Ooo), so "humans" don't exist, but humanity lives on (if that makes sense), or B: Went to the stars for some unknown reason. That doesnt really explain the desolate state Ooo is in, but regardless I really don't think they could've just...

Their tech is far too advanced for Ooo to be that serious of a threat (Susan dealt with the Gumball Guardians very easily, even if she was hulking out then), and if there were any viruses on Ooo that were completely foreign to the humans then...
Finn alone should've basically wiped them out by complete accident just by visiting the Islands lol

I always wondered why Minerva didn’t just make a robotic body that contained her brain I mean she would still be like her original self instead of just a digital copy. It really makes you wonder what type of affect the plague had on the human body
Well judging by the VR-island plus Minervas supercomputer setup on the main island, its possible to assume that they dont really have the ability to downscale the tech to being contained in a single body.
And even if they did, I doubt a single Minerva could do much to combat the effect of the virus on the whole human population compared to her consciousness controlling hundreds of helpers.
Maybe her brain was contaminated too so it would die aswell
It is very likely that she was deteriorating from both inside and outside. If you remember Minerva’s explanation of the disease, it was accompanied by striking visuals (8:14 in the video), one of which depicting a virus cell contaminating (presumably) skin cells and the organ withered away. She was doomed either way, and I seriously doubt that she is “alive” because the computer copies her neural pathways, not her soul. Minerva as we know her exists as a digital clone, acting as though her original self WOULD, but is not. That makes it sadder when you think about it…

I like to believe that the human in the future successfully explore space and thrive. It’s better to think that way than to think all of humanity are now extinct in the future. It’s just far less depressing for me anyway. Also I’d love to see you cover more comic material.
There are actually humans who managed to flee to space and who biologically molded themselves with Grey alien DNA-- shown in Adventure Time - Distant Lands: BMO.

At this point it's mind blowing how the humans in Adventure Time even managed to continuously advance technologically after all the crazy blows that they've received.
Worth noting that there's a statue of Two-Bread Tom on the island in the episode "Min and Marty". Confirming that its canon he was a founder.

Yeah Humans have it really tough but they always survive almost every mutant has tried to kill them at one point or another lmao. Honestly I wish that Dr. Gross played a more active role in the story, I understand she is supposed to start up the arc but I think her "save mankind through cybernetics" is kinda true. Ooo is dangerous and unforgiving and any upper hand can help humanity in a positive way.
I think the humans would be far more advanced if MO had gone to the island with them. Especially with robots, he created the fire giants combine those with the island's guardian and you get one powerful robot.
One of the blimps going to Founder's Island is labeled MoCo so the madman actually got in contact with the island humans and helped them out.
I think his plan was to stay behind and terraform Ooo because he even did business with Tree Trunks.
If i'm not mistaken, there's evidence that the candy kingdom could've even competed with Mo in conquering Ooo (I think there's some flashback where she's standing over piles of her defeated enemies and there's a Mobot there)
I just realized something, Adventure Time is basically kid-friendly Fallout, and the Island Humans are basically the Institute.
How do we know theyre extinct? They could have succeeded in leaving Ooo. Its not like Ooo looks like a decent place to stick around in after the 1000 years. Sure the Pups have their own city and apparently their own space society, but their city seems more lime just a ground base for them.
Ooo just looks more...desolate and not good after 1000 years. Its kind of sad really. Kind of a bummer ending really. Sure it has its dark undertones, but to see this magical world left to ruin and dust is just extra sad.

The story of humans is really tragic also I think ooo is Germany because in the the episode Bonabeld Gum you can see that the signs around what soon be the candy kingdom as the signs in the episode were all in the German language.

its a amalgamation of diferents lands, its likely a new continent formed by the rest of all the remaining lands that was not wiped out by whatever created the crater, i think that because Simon was in a escandinavian country when the war begun.

@@TrueLocalEnthusiast as there’s a lots of evidence supporting this as you can see all of it for yourself in the episode title Bonabeld gum as there’s a whole another story that’s also going on in the background of that episode.
Have you thought about why there are so many 'princesses' in ooo and why they are so different? Could they be the mutated humans from the other vaults, with their kingdoms made on top of those vaults to explain how they have so much infrastructure? A lot of them are in the badlands, and are often oasis like things in such a baren, baren land with some weird stuff they rule over, so how could that be?
I was always curious about the Princess rulling system too, I mean doesn't it just make sense the world would move back into imperialism if it had to start from scratch again?
Honestly, it's kind of refreshing for humans to nor be the apex civilization, or even main focused civilization in a story, while still remaining relevant

Humanity isn't the Apex but it is by far the most technologically advanced society out of all the kingdoms. Outside of Princess Bubblegum the smartest and most knowledgeable are all humans. Simon , Betty, Dr. Gross, Minerva, Moe.

have you ever notice when they dress classy they tend to mimic modern human outfits even when LSP wanted to do a classical play she basically just replicated a Human soap opera drama , its also to note that many of the kingdoms don't know hot to utilize metals like Humans princess bubble gum uses mostly candy operated machines and metallic ones are quite rare .

The fact that you made your 15000, 20000, and 25000 subscriber videos all within a few days of each other is genuinely super impressive, and the fact that every video you make is so informative and quality is amazing, I hope that you keep growing becuase you've clearly found something good here
One thing I like is that when Finn is talking to the Catalyst Comit, he calls Ooo, "Earth"
personally I don’t think they went extinct 1000 years later, it seems likely they migrated to Mars and other parts of the universe. An interesting possible support for this idea is Pendleton Ward’s other lesser known show “Bravest Warriors”. Though not confirmed it seems to likely be in the same universe as Adventure Time a little bit after AT’s end, and features humans living on an overpopulated Mars.
I think the mushroom war is more likely to be the Cold War, since technology seems to have advanced to the late 80s or early 90s as seen with that one computer and ice king singing the cheers theme (when he was Simon)
I like this theory, it would be pretty fitting too since constant fear of nuclear Armageddon was a big fear during the real life Cold War

I think there's really strong evidence for Mo actually being the one who built the golem. First off, he's hecka old and had an unnaturally long lifespan because of his ability to replace his failing body parts. The humans and Dr. Gross's entire culture revolves around never leaving the island and it's been this way for generations. Dr. Gross even says in the founders song that the golem has been there to protect them, and in the founders song, a blimp floats by with "Mo Co" on it. She wasn't alive when it was built. Another reason is that BMO is compatible with the humans electronics, which to me would indicate that Mo might've helped establish the islands and then left, leaving the humans with a basis for technology that, even though they advanced separately throughout the hundreds of years, still would've had enough roots to be compatible together. I'm sure there's more that I'm missing, but if you still disagree, I'd like to hear why you think Dr Gross was the one who built it. I know she's an inventor, but that's about the only reason I can see. Her dedication to making sure people stay on the island could easily be explained by her (as you stated) almost religious belief in the dangers of the outside world; it would give her a "righteous" complex that the ends justify the means. I think her motivations and passions focuses pretty strongly on evolutionary growth, so I can't see her finding a solution to the dangers by creating a defensive creature: I could more see her wanting to mutate actual humans so they could fight back.
I would like to support this w a theory of my own. We just kinda accept Mos presence at the Mo factory but theres something about it that sticks out to me. Doesnt Mo look exactly like one of those "Better Reality" humans? I think Mo went to the islands to help the humans and have a place to live outside of Ooo. He helped them w their tech, but as we know, things happened thanks to Dr. Gross. I think he was one of those that contracted the disease. Before he left, I speculate that he helped create the "Better Reality" network, to help those suffering and dying from the disease. But, due to how that affected ppl (ppl choosing altered reality over performing their societal roles), Mo was likely forced from the Island, along w others like Dr Gross. I'm sure there's other things Mo mayve done to get banished but it seems to me he went into hiding. The TraMO said that he wasnt loved by anyone- could this have been an allusion to the attitudes the Islanders had of him? How could someone who created robots for joy considered to be such an unloved person? Theres more to Mo than just being BMOs grand-poop or w/e lol I personally believe he had a lot to do w the main events of Ooo.
As a side note, apparently he simped Treetrunks, which I find that scene hilarious for so many reasons x D

Let's start w BMO and Vinny, cause this is an interesting parallel. It starts here bc of the way that BMO reacts to seeing Vinny outside the AI realm. Hes sick, decrepit, and crawling on his belly- just like Mo. BMO is distressed when first meeting Vinny, I think, bc he superficially acts and resembles Mo. But, this is where the idea first occurred to me.
As you mentioned, the MoCo blimp can be seen traveling to the Island. Mo's presence was most certainly on the Island. Theres a flashback scene (I think it was the Mo introductory ep) where we see a young Mo building BMO and theres a blue print of a fire giant on his wall. Conceptually, the Guardian looks a lot like the Fire Giants, in design and function. There was a perceived need for this kind of protection, given the events of the time. Guardian was most certainly man made- I agree w you regarding Dr Gross. While it's possible she mayve helped in building the giants or tech, her expertise seemed to be more towards bio-mechanics and evolution sciences. I agree that she probably had nothing to do w it- particularly given her reverence for it.
So, that puts us on the Island w Mo as he's helping to build systems and tech for the inhabitants. As we know, he built BMO to give love. And, BMO is fully integrated into the "Better Reality" system, meaning theres some compatibility w MoTech. This also happened when the Seeker-Bot hacked BMO, suggesting to me theres some compatibility w MoTech. Mo wanted to give something to humanity- that's apparent w BMO and for that, he thought he had a lot to give. But let's continue, I'm digressing.
So, as we know Dr. Gross is the reason for the plague that decimated the helpers. We can take for granted that Mo is old bc he has been mechanically extending his life. But could an extended life just be a side effect of the procedures he had to take to save his own life from the disease? He could've downloaded his brain like Minerva but didnt- perhaps he never got the chance and for this next reason.
People are dying- they're on their death beds. Their society is in chaos. Now, let's look at Reality Island. Its barren and seemingly, abandoned, except for the Better Reality inhabitants. They're dying and going crazy, so what's the solution? I think Jake accurately called it, as he often subtly does, when he called them "graves of the future". Instead of facing death through their ailing bodies, they were given another option- augmented reality. I tie Mo to this bc of the way hes dressed, the sequence of events (Mo first, Islands later), his obsession w giving and receiving, and his desire to create robots and systems. Who knows if the MoBots came before or after these events but I'm led to believe that he built the Mos after the Island.
Now, as I mentioned, society is in collapse- helpers are dying and more ppl are escaping reality. I think it ultimately got to a point that ppl and families were choosing that over practical solutions. So, they blamed the creator of Better Reality, Mo.
It's the statement that the Tram Mo makes that always brings me back to this. "Mo was loved only by those he built to love him". First, that's sad af- second, that Tram Mo was programmed to understand that. Thats... the whole personality of the Tram Mo character, I'm programmed to be this way. Third, that sounds like the kind of comment that would come from a person disappointed in humanity. And as we see, Mo built robots for love and service- so how could he be so unloved? He had to have done something to hurt a lot of ppl and my Better Reality-Mo theory seems legit. After all he did for their society, they turned their back on him and he was banished. He was still suffering the disease. Lol ty for your response! I was so happy to share this w you, ty! : D lmk what you think! I feel like we have similar ideas about this ^^

Well lol it happens in one of the final eps. It's the ep where Treetrunks flash backs to her time as a... shipping mogul? Shes talking about all her ex husband's. Lol the scene is, shes in an office and I think the Wyatt the Walrus is her secretary at the time. He comes in w flowers and says something like "another bouquet from Robot-Body Mo" lmao! Treetrunks response was "put em in the trash" x D cold lol
The whole minerva thing kinda, feels like a misunderstanding, if her consciousness, which is YOU, your BEING was transferred into the island, then she isn't dead, she's digitalized, there is no "original minerva" because she is still the original, she's effectively just an immortal being.
If I copy your brain. Make an AI that perfectly mimics you. Then shoot you in the head. Are you still alive?

Just remember that in Islands miniseries we can see a monument to Two Bread Tom, so he is likely at least a significant figure in late human culture. Whether he is a founder is up to interpretation, but I think it’s pretty likely.
My crossover brain just thinks the Galactic Horde from She-Ra showed up and drained Ooo of most of its magic in the future. That's why it's so desolate and seemingly magic-starved in the distant future. My fanfiction brain has fun thinking of the crossover potential. The Mushroom War being the Cold War makes more sense to me. Except it went a lot further, obviously. We see Russian tanks in the background in some of the flashbacks, and some landmarks that would place this in the US. There was also clearly anti-Soviet sentiment in the newspaper about Simon Petrikov. Plus we see a lot of past technology in the world, and most of it seems like 80s technology, maybe 90s. Why would there be PCs and VHS tapes if human civilization fell during World War 2? There's also the fact that nuclear annihilation was a very real threat in the real world. And given the fact that there were Soviet tanks in America in this world, that would definitely explain why the Cold War went hot.
I've never heard the WW2 theory, but it doesnt make much sense to me given the fact that society clearly went on and invented new technologies after that time. Given all that, and the Russian things I've mentioned and the connection to the real world, I think it's pretty much guaranteed it was an alternate Cold War with an alternate ending.
Unfortunately the flashbacks before the war, showed smartphones and very 2020s outfits

I think the crater on Ooo might've been created by whatever put the dreamer in the dimension he's in. Maybe when he started dreaming, Prizmo just vanished that chunk of Ooo, so that noone could trace his origins.

Ik you referenced the comic strip to support the founding humans, but there is a statue of 2 Bread Tom on the Island in the series. I always took that as proof that the humans Marcie saved founded the islands. Also, Mo helped build the fire giants- I assumed, by design, he had something to do w the Colossus too. The blue prints can be seen during one of Mo's earliest flash backs, hanging on his wall. In some way, Mo was involved w the Island- you can see one of his ships heading there in Dr. Gross' flashback.
I never seen the nuke videos yet but here's my theory; humans really didn't squash themselves willingly as they were already manipulated by a higher entity that wanted them out of the way. Lich could be a prime candidate but even he is forced to obey different laws of reality that pre-creation. AT has a lot of characters hiding many agendas and horrible arrogances, like PB on her theme of being a demi-god trying to destroy the concept of demi-gods, an obvious threat to her own reincarnation and her siblings.

I think it is technically confirmed in the show that the humans Marceline saved became the founders. Even without considering the comic, in the islands mini-series there is a statue of Two-Bread Tom, the leader of the humans Marceline saved.

you ever wonder what it's like elsewhere on earth? like, ooo is just one continent on the planet, there's still a bunch out there, which is evident by there being a bunch of different land masses whenever earth is showed in the show. or maybe they all took the brunt of the mushroom war and ooo is the only surviving area, idk.
I think Ooo became kind of like that Palgya island from the beginning of the earth that was supposedly the one gaintass continent that existed before it was broken into the ones we have today
@@PichuElric you mean pangea? eh, i don't think so. you can clearly see other land masses whenever earth is shown. most notably when finn faces orgalorg in space and other parts of season 6 that shows space. i think the most reasonable explanation is that either those lands are just too dangerous to explore/too dangerous to reach either due to fallout from the war or other things, or the show's team just really didn't see the need/didn't think of it.

I think its more likely that the Humans just left Earth and colonized other planets. That or the lack of humans was a mistake and just something that will just end up getting retconned later.

Ironic that adventure, Time a supposed “kids show” has a lot of dark backstory and also ironically continues to get darker and darker as the story continues with only brief rays of sunlight/hope that periodically show up only to thoroughly remind you this is the post apocalypse.
I think humans coexisted with the candy Kingdom after leaving the islands as alot of the buildings shown in the abandoned candy Kingdom look human built. And all the candy people are in the upgraded gumball garden, I think the humans over threw princess bubble gum, but she had a back up plan, knowing it would happen eventually, or the humans killed neddy from miss understanding, and them the Kingdom couldn't seaport itself without power and caous insured before anything could be done.

This was really a great summary of the tragic fait of humans i was just thinking when you would do a video about the humans.
However one question that popped up in my head when you mentioned the crater is where even is the crater? As we see in the flashback that docktor gross shows to the young seekers the crater was created during the mushroom war. Does the crater have some connection to the creations of Ooo?
When i was younger i used to believe that Ooo was IN the crater but when i became more educated i came to the conclusion that was impossible due to the simple fact that Ooo is an island and is surrounded by miles of water showed in The Islands miniseries, i mean the islands that the humans was on was'nt exactly close. (this didn't face me for some reason during your video about the crater).

Off topic but I always assumed that the remaining Gray Aliens that were screwed over by humans were saved by Princess Bubblegum. Especially since Princess Zip exist 1000 years later so the candy colonization had to have helped them somehow.
I wish they spent more time fleshing out the fear the humans had for their past, and then later of the virus. Like you stated it seemed like the world had a bone to pick with humans specifically. The founders song kind of rushed over it. It would have been cool to see the effect on the pathology of society, and not just in institutions.

the humans are definitely the same ones Marceline saved because the ship Finn and company take after they leave the Island is the same ship the humans were on after Marceline saved them. So that's definitely canon.
I find some errors in this, for example while it is true that the humans that Marceline saved were the founders of the island, this can be proven in the show due to the fact that there is a statue of one of them on the island. In addition, it is very likely that MO CO. Built the guardian because if you look at the structure of the titan and the fire giants in the fire kingdom they are utterly similar, and since there is a shot of Mo with a blueprint for one of the fire giants, we can assume that he built the Guardian, this theory is further enforced by a MO CO. Blimp in a shot of the founders finding the islands. Other than that, this is a very informative video and I learned alot

Its a possiblity since if humans came back to ooo they probably lived with the citizenz and adapted.iirc Thats why the advance gumball guardians recognized him as if he is a citizen despite being noncandy. Also we see this in work in bmo's episode for distant lands where the bad guy infused alien dna into themselves. So its not a bad ending jist a bittersweet one.

I think there should be a caveat with speculation of what happened to humans in Adventure Time's Shermy and Beth/Graybles Era because there is not enough time spent there to draw any real conclusions that could possibly be covered in later content if that was a direction taken. We cant say whether or not they would do a Shemy and Beth spin off as no one can truly predict the future, so it's likely they would go into that during that hypothetical spin off.

I don't think the Mushroom war would have been that world's WWII. While that makes sense based on the planes, Patience St. Pim reflects on a time with the other elementals that seemed to be around 2015 or smth like that. I don't believe that war had happened yet.
There's also a statue of the guy marsie saved when you see Martin talking to an old lady who wants to leave the island. So that also shows that those humans were also founders.

I don't think it was world war two. Personally, the material evidence points to the bomb being dropped in the mid 80s, probably in a situation where the cold war got hot. The clothes of the skeletons in the Lich's lair, Two bread Tom singing sitcom jingles, the motorcycle in the shot of Marceline's mom dying, it's definitely not in line with the 1940s. Frankly, the planes seem to be the exception rather than the rule, but it's also possible given that if I remember correctly that flashback was from farmworld, the timeline there is different.
I imagine the Lich had something to do with it, intentionally aggravating the already tense situation in the mid 80s, with Regan reopening the arms race and Gorbachev not yet in charge in the U.S.S.R. I could see the Lich possibly even directly infiltrating the leadership of the Soviet Union given the rate of turnover at the top in that decade.
Remember when Adventure Time started and it was, you know, about going on fun adventures? At some point parts of it started to become a bit depressing...
