- A "lectio divina" of "Father" in the Our Father
Content Script:
To truly call God Father is a gift of the Spirit: “You did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you received a spirit of adoption, through which we cry ‘Abba’, ‘Father’ (Romans 8:15)
To pray the Our Father is to worship with Jesus in spirit and truth:” the hour is coming and now is, when the true worshipper will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for such the Father seeks to worship him.” (John 4:23-24)
Jesus invites us into the intimate life of the Trinity with the Our Father. We dwell in God and God in us: “ Whoever loves me will keep my word, and my father will love them, and we will come to them and make our dwelling with them.” (John 14:23)
For Jesus the essence of the Father is that he is love, the source of all good: “all good giving and every perfect gift is from above, coming from the Father of lights…” (James 1:17)
The Our Father “is about God’s desire to offer us the gift of himself-that is-the gift of gifts, the ‘one thing necessary’ .” (Benedict 137)
