Hi, Great that you are posting these videos and keep them online, its very appreciated. I have one of these VW T4's and its a maintenance nightmare! Many Thanks, Regards from Alaska!
Hello Thomas, stuck trying to get off a broken pulley on a 93, and the nut and bolt are siezed and stripped. To take off the entire tensioner is it best to lower the engine and get to the three bolts from the passenger side with the wheel off? Thank you!
Sorry, I forgot to reply to your email yesterday. Yes, I think the service manual says to lower the engine in order to remove the tensioner assembly. I'll send info via email tonight after work.
Thanks for the video. I've been trying to find the official tool for holding the balancer while breaking the nut loose. I understand it's tool 3419 or 3419A which was superseded by T10025. I notice you listed "Baum Tools AS4394 Camshaft and Diesel Injection Pump Counter Holder", is this a good substitute? Ive read some people get away with using a monkey wrench or other cobbled hardware but these methods may compromise the rubber coupling in the balancer?? Your thoughts/feedback on breaking the torque on this which I hear is over 300ft/lbs and a beast to get loose.
I grab the L joint with the crowsfoot... you don't need to use a tool. You can grab the belt with your hands at the PS pump and pull on the belt and lift it over the PS pulley. Watch your fingers!
+mark mcatee You can find most tools here: vw.snapon.com/SpecialToolsDetail.aspx?itemId=16190005 I have not had any issues using an impact gun to loosen bolts... I have also used impacts to tighten bolts when we needed the vehicle mobile (waiting for a new balancer / replacement bolt).
I've been getting some squeaking on my belt, and I have an oil leak near there that I think may be degrading the belt. I can't identify the part though I think this is the oil pump. Is this correct? photos.app.goo.gl/AU56CPEHySg4Pxp99
I see that there are gaskets and other things available. Just not sure what the likely culprit is. Seems pretty messy too. Might go to a shop, but I want to be informed.
Wash it... run the engine (might take a day or so for a leak to surface, if it's a slow leak) and show me a picture / video again. I also want to see the front side where the crank pulley is.
@@EXOVCDS Did my best to clean. I'll post back in a few days. Here are the "clean" photos. Let me know if this is a good enough starting point. photos.app.goo.gl/AU56CPEHySg4Pxp99
I just noticed that you are missing a number of oil pan bolts (to the right of the PS pump)... 3 that I can see. They are 5mm allen head bolts. You can install regular 6mm x 1.0 thread bolts with a 10mm head. Check all the remaining bolts to make sure that they are tight.
There are no good videos on YT for doing this job and here's another. You'd have done better by dubbing on a description of what you are doing. I have been looking all day for a video that will show and TELL me how to release the tension in the belt so that I can remove and repair/replace the alternator, not one out of many videos shows how! Day two of looking tomorrow. 2003 2.5 tdi t4

Thanks man
This isn't one of my better videos, so thanks for saying thanks!
Hey, I am having problems releasing tension for the belt. What are you grabbing onto with the crowsfoot? I see the L joint but cant get any leverage.

How do you service/replace the spring tensioner. Mine is siezed up...
+M Jackson Remove & replace... I'll see if I can find some info. I'll get back to you this week.

what size crows foot did you use on the tensioner ?
15mm... as with anything, the one that fits. Buy a crow-foot set and I'm sure one will fit.
Hi... may I know how long or what size code for belt eurovan non a/c?
Dont answer... I got it. That's 21.36x1715mm.

That's the power steering pump. Clean / wash the area with a degreaser spray / wash. The actual source of the leak will then be easier to spot.

Grab a camera... follow service information... post your video. Let's see how good your video is.
I'll wait.
Bad light
No kidding... that's why I recorded & posted a better video.
