    I've been a Christian for 28 years and have never spoken in tongues. It has not affected my faith in the slightest. It is a sign for unbelievers to bridge any communication gap. Most of us aren't in a situation in life where another language is necessary to share the Gospel. Unfortunately, the subject has taken on a life of its own and is so out of control that proponents of it have attached it to salvation. The subject will never go away because too many people have built their Christian life around it and can't afford to be corrected on it because of what they will lose if they change.

      @@96tolife my dear brother? In what language did Peter preach the gospel on the day of Pentecost that resulted in the salvation of 3000 souls?have you also read anywhere in the Bible where someone supernaturally preach the gospel in an earthly language? Do you humbly see your error? Pls read 1Cor14:2,3,4, 14,15. God bless you.
      If you are raised on raw meat without salt to you there can never be anything better. However if you humbly agree to be treated to roasted and salted meat then unless you are a Pharisee you may agree that it is better. Read from the Bible about the benefits of speaking in tongues.

      @@christiananim6270 You're making my point. Acts 2:6 says, "When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their OWN LANGUAGE being spoken." These were unbelievers hearing the Gospel preached through the gift of tongues. It is supported by 1 Corinthians 14:22 that says, "Tongues, then, are A SIGN, not for believers but FOR UNBELIEVERS; prophecy, however, is not for unbelievers but for believers." But, my experience is that people have elevated tongues to the level of it being necessary for salvation. Plus, what they consider tongues is more akin to unintelligible gibberish that is not known to anybody and often is demonic in nature. So, no, I don't see any error in my understanding. God can sort this all out for us. We cannot both be correct but can both be wrong. So just pray for me if you disagree. I will pray for you as well. Wooo! Thank you Jeremiah. God revealed to me this truth awhile ago. I still hang out/fellowship at times with a very charismatic group. I have explained that speaking tongues without and interpreter is wrong, in addition I ask how can you receive edification, exhortation, or comfort if you have no idea what’s being said. God is not a God of confusion, yes He is mysterious but in a different sense. Tongues is a different language and yes the spirit does groan but not with words, and since “tongues” produces words it therefore cannot be a groaning which is an expression as oppose to a verbalization. Anyhow, brother thanks again! Sharing your video!

      @@96tolife but if it was just a known language, the same portion of the scripture you used wouldn't say this... ‭‭I Corinthians‬ ‭14:2‭-‬3‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
      [2] For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. [3] But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men... Perhaps I may be misunderstanding what is being said, but the whole chapter seems to be addressing an issue in the Corinthian church about tongues being used to minister to people in the absence of an interpreter. So that which edifies a person fails to edify the church this rendering it pointless?

    • @JeremiahPMensah
      @JeremiahPMensah  11 місяців тому +2

      The context of that is in a church meeting. If we’re all in church and someone speaks in tongues and no one understands him, then he’s only speaking to God. The word “mysteries” has been twisted into something it’s not. Paul describes the gospel as a mystery. In Acts, those who heard the disciples speak in tongues said they were hearing about the “wonderful/marvelous works of God”. Those are the mysteries, but with no one to understand, you’re only talking to God. Hope this clarifies it

    It's because not everyone is given the gift of speaking in tongues. And the bible says if you speak in tongues not to speak it in the church unless there is someone who can understand tongues and interpret to the rest. It's more hurtful to speak in tongues in front of others to them, than helpful if there is not an interpreter. Bible CLEARLY stated that yet most who speaks in tongues does it anyway.

    Tongues is a difficult subject, and likely one of the most abused and misunderstood. I went to a few churches where this was somewhat common, it seemed there was a real struggle to recognize the 'gifts' without getting too superficial about it. I've heard many who interpret tongues say they hear many people who are cursing God through their prayer language. I've really been questioning it lately, though I know many believe it's a necessity to really get breakthroughs.

    • @JeremiahPMensah

      I can definitely relate to the struggle. There are millions of Christians who don't believe in any gifts at all, much less speak in tongues, and they have "breakthroughs" just fine lol. So when I hear that, I just want to ask some questions.

So when one night me and two friends where in the church one friend laid his hands on me and BOOM I was baptized into the Holy Spirit. It was the most amazing thing. And understand when I say I didn’t believe it for 6 months after when I prayed in tongues I would listen for a cuss word. But of course it never happened and it only brought me closer to God. It was truly out of this world. And all the years before it I thought I had been on fire for God but it wasn’t even close.

    Wait so your spirit praying is the same as walking in the spirit? How does that work?
    “For if I pray in a tongue, my SPIRIT prays, but my mind is unfruitful.” 1 Cor 14:14
    It’s hard to get around that with walking in the spirit is the same as your spirit praying. Also it’s hard to say that the Bible doesn’t say praying in a tongue is your spirit praying when it literally just did.
    For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful.

      I wasn't saying walking in the spirit is the same as praying in the spirit. I was pointing out the fact that the phrase "in the Spirit" is used to refer to other things which are clearly not tongues. So to equate "praying in the Spirit" to tongues is flawed logic. Your thoughts on this are clearly very genuine, but it really isn't a case of 'either or'. People who pray in tongues also pray in their own language as well. I am concerned to have now seen two videos on UA-cam denigrating the gift of tongues as it is a gift from the Holy Spirit, and you are venturing onto treacherous ground if you start throwing God's gifts away. Beware of God's enemy. As a proviso, I am absolutely NOT saying you have to speak in tongues to be a genuine Christian/ praying person, but if you have been given the gift it should be used to God's purpose.

    • @JeremiahPMensah
      @JeremiahPMensah  6 днів тому

      Right. I wholeheartedly agree. I believe in the gifts and believe they're for today, and are to be used for God's purpose. The question is, what is God's purpose for the gift of tongues? Was it for people to pray in tongues, or was it to evangelize to the nations in their language which the speaker never learned. I believe the Bible is very clear on this. @@JeremiahPMensah That's a nice reply thank you, Corinthians 14 does explain that tongues builds up the speaker ,and is a way of the spirit praying (though leaving the mind unenlightened). I think St Paul was probably just making sure that people in church/ Christian gatherings, were not just mindlessly speaking tongues that no-one could understand, and no one interpreting. Apparently Cornelius's household all spoke in tongues. I absolutely would not give up speaking in tongues in private prayer, and also if the spirit ever genuinely comes upon someone in church they should speak out.

    Hi Jeremiah, you said that one of the benefits of not praying in tongues was that you prayed in English and your mother tongues more, but that is not about whether or not praying in tongues brings greater intimacy with God, but more about how you allocated your time. You said that you were taught that tongues was a language that evil spirits couldn't understand, that's just poor teaching. Jesus spoke in a language that those around him could understand and the evil spirits had to obey because of who Jesus is. Why not just ask God about the functions of tongues? Why choose to not speak in tongues for a year? It sounds like you have become more dependent on yourself to pray and understand what your praying about, but you can do both. Praying in tongues is humbling, because you are dependent upon the Spirit of God who searches our hearts to articulate what we need to pray about as we aught to pray. It's not one or the other, God has given you both. It seems to be (please correct me if I am wrong) that you had some preconceived ideas of what tongues is and how it benefits christians and your studies have revealed that some of them are incorrect. This does not mean that tongues aren't of value but that you are closer to understanding the function of tongues according to scripture. Praying in tongues edifies the individual and the congregation with interpretation, you can experience both. Exodus 6:5 says God heard the groanings of the children of Israel. Psalm 22:1 writes of the 'words of my groanings.' Exodus 2:24 'God heard thier groanings', just like tongues (languages) is a form of comunication that we, nature and the Spirit uses and understands. It's encouraging to see young people pursue a relationship with God, keep on keeping on. May God continue to bless and strengthen you.

    • @JeremiahPMensah
      @JeremiahPMensah  14 годин тому

      Yes, you're right that I had false beliefs about tongues. This is what prompted the search for truth and the test in the first place. Now in my studies, I came to understand what the Bible actually teaches about tongues. It's not about "you can do both". It's about what the Bible says about the gift of tongues. And while my test was unorthodox, it was to prove that many of the doctrines I had been raised on were false. I'm not saying anyone should do that specifically, however, I think it is necessary for any growing believer to be willing to question what they believe and examine it under the light of the scriptures. This video was just meant to document my experience. I have a more detailed teaching on tongues if you'd like to check it out: ua-cam.com/users/liveCMe03n8HKsw?si=IatarwmNSK6po7Ie

    Sometimes it's good to just jibber jabber. It can give you a good feeling and be uplifting. It can have its place in private devotions.
    Evidence points to this not being in the form of an actual language.
    If you want to obtain the benefit of praising God in an unknown language one could sing or say the Gloria in Latin. One can read a translation of the words as well as praying in an unknown language.

    • @JeremiahPMensah
      @JeremiahPMensah  14 годин тому +1

      Then let's admit that that's the reason why people are "jibber jabber"-ing. Let's not push the doctrine that a corrupted version of the true gift of tongues has some spiritual benefit when all it does is make you feel good.

    • @cpnlsn88
      @cpnlsn88 13 годин тому

      @@JeremiahPMensah I agree. I don't want to sound overly dismissive. People may have many reasons for this particular uplifting experience and I wouldn't judge anyone who was helped by it.
      I wouldn't advise doing it for long periods though.
      It is obvious it's not a language in any form. Language is for communicating and expressing ideas.
      Though Paul did not forbid tongues he placed a framework around its use for edification through limiting messages to 3 and having interpretations. It's clear that doing this tongues speaking would fall out of use as indeed happened at Corinth.
      From the entire Corinthian correspondence it's clear Paul didn't want to keep the tongues going, he wanted to keep the love going.
      The whole of 1 and 2 Corinthians can be summed up in 4 words "You are puffed up", a constant recurring theme in the letters.

    Speaking in tongues is not only a gift (1 Corinthians 12:4 & v10), it is 1 of the 5 powers of miraculous signs and wonders of the Apostles (Mark 16:17). The only way a believer can perform the miraculous sign and wonder of speaking in tongues is by an Apostle (Acts 1:15-26) baptizing you with the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:5) by placing hands on you (Acts 19:6 & Acts 8:17) or by an Apostle speaking to you (Acts 10:44 & Acts 11:15). All the Apostles are dead, the believers they lay hands on or spoke to are dead and the 7 chosen men (Acts 6:2-6 & Acts 6:8 & Acts 8:6-8) are dead so the miraculous sign and wonder of speaking in tongues is non-existing along with the other 4 miraculous signs and wonders.
