We lived in LA and in Fresno, and moved here 2 years ago. Didn't know what to expect. I wanted to be near the coast and have cleaner air! It's such a small town, just the basics. Sometimes I miss the variety and convenience of Fresno, OC, and LA. But we love the slower life style here, the dead silent nights - except for the occasional random weird fireworks at 4 in the morning. What's up with that? lol The people are really nice and polite. We also love the weather, it's mild and fresh, not hazy like LA and not scorching hot like Fresno. I can't pinpoint it, but there is something captivating about this place. The murals are really nice. I haven't seen the flower fields yet, I wish we could, but I was told they have now been replaced by vineyards? The mission is superb, and the golf course is very beautiful. The sunsets here are special. The beach is immense. It gets really windy sometimes, it makes me sneeze and sniffle. But otherwise, the weather is fantastic. The housing is one area that needs improvement. There aren't many choices, and it can be very costly for what amenities you actually get. Landlords justify it by saying it's by the beach, but the location is not enough, there has to be adequate, safe, and affordable housing regardless of location. I'd like to see what can be done about that. You can't gather up all the low income people and ship them off with the satellites. :) Nice videos, thank you.
Victor Jordan is a WONDERFUL person....know him thanks to some business and just around town over the past whatever years. He is a beautiful person with big heart and loves people. Always a smile and a nice conversation. He has been so important to the town in ways people simply are not aware....we need to support him and his ideals much as we can.
Grew up there. Family has been there along time . Great great grandmother, grandmother, mother , aunt , myself ( bellflower ca ) , brother, nieces all born or raised there .
YEA Flying Goat Cellars! Thanks for including us. The video offers a refreshing positive view of Lompoc and life. We need more of this attitude circulating in our community.
Wow, I did not know that Stuart Whitman owned that property. (I love trivia like that!)---Another Wow for Victor's interview. Gee, the things I've learned here!---Cypress Gallery is a great stop on the hunt for one of a kind gifts (or just for myself!)---Finally Roy, I got to see the inside!---I'm always seeing the fundraisers for Shadow's Fund, w/o ever knowing who or what it was for (thinking it was for police canines) Now I know, so will look more closely the next time I pass the donation box.---This presentation was well done. Thank-you from this local Hospice nurse, who first moved here with my family when Dad got hired to teach at the new High School in 1961. I've been away, and ultimately came back home in 1991.
I remember the food trucks used to be call roach coach, but honestly I thought the food was awesome. I kinda miss Lompoc, especially La Prisma mission.
Thank you for coming to our channel, we probably won't end up making any more videos on Lompoc since we covered it so much already and we gotta keep the train moving but we will be back to do some of the neighboring cities one day.
nicely done series but your need to dismiss negative aspects of this town do the town a serious disservice. The Pollyanna "...but it is bad everywhere..." is cowardly. What does another town having the same or worse issues than Lompoc have to do with this town fixing itself? Denial is why these issues have grown to such scary proportions. Lompoc ONCE was a beautiful town, yeah it had it's small town cronyism and the "coffee klatch" gossip sewing circle, heck they still are there, but it was still a place people felt safe and happy. Not anymore when people refuse to go outside and we have a system which does not enforce health & safety laws on once great apartment building run into being real slums, and yes these are real. This could be fixed but the town refuses to deal with it head on preferring to collect the taxes and finds from the government assisted payments even these completely unsafe and unhealthy apartment clusters are thank in no small part to the advent of the "property management" companies who live just to collect checks from anyone with ID's altered with a crayon and enough CASH to buy their way past even the most trivial background checks. Yeah, many small towns have similar issues but who cares? The town has great people, really, but without a cogent plan and cohesive community wide effort to fix things in a non-judgmental fashion, instead just basically poo-pooing them the town will keep declining not improving. And not everyone living in the squalor are bad at all, in fact most are good just stuck in a bad situation with zero hope to get out so they too just go along...we need lots of videos like this series, to see the positives matter but at the same time we need the same or more effort into addressing the problems head on, where are the videos to actually who people these issues I'm talking about? Most don't likely realize how bad it is and how widespread is has become...and how few recreational options are left for the people of Lompoc? It's all been taken away in once fashion or another. So we need to start pushing to repair that as well....

Yes, when I moved to Lompoc from Santa Barbara about 40 years ago, it was a safe place to walk around even at night. Now you hear gunfire just about every night. It is 3 days before the 4th of July and last night it was like being back in Vietnam. It sounded like a firefight going on in my front yard. I no longer feel safe at night and keep my doors locked
Yup. This is exactly why the old timers are against showing the town off and growing. The problems came here with growth and state politics. A lot of outsiders moved in and brought their gang problems with them. At one point there was representation upwards of 25-30 DIFFERENT gangs here. Lompoc used to be the place where you could leave your vehicle and front door unlocked. Granted, yes, the state/country as a whole has seen an uptick in crime and violence, this all goes hand in hand. People who remember Lompoc how it was will tell you....

My brother lived there from 1979-2017 on north G street. He was a cartoonist and worked at the Lompoc school district in the printing department.
