  • Here I talk about some final changes that should fix some of the biggest issues we have in game. Video is quite long but I cover most important things in first part so you can just watching till then.
I'd love to hear your feedback. Most of these decisions are based on feedback we've got from players, streamers and youtubers.

Everything about the changes was really good. For the priority system I would like to prepare for the fight completly(gladiators, positions and priorities) before it starts making it my complete fault if I lose, because it can be really frustrating if I lose battles because of random bad decisions from the AI. Also, if all of these complex ideas get implemented, there should be some kind of explaination in the game for new players to understand about the synergy, weather and other systems. Thanks for the hard work!

You would like us to add the specific enemy prioritization as well? Right now as you seen we have only option to kind of tell his AI on what kinds of things or types of enemies to focus on.
Yes we'd definitely need to figure out a good way to explain all the new complexity like synergy. Our goal is that player can play on easy or normal modes without bothering too much with it. Maybe it won't be most efficient run, but eventually they would be able to win. But then as they get more and more familiar with the game and start using all the tricks like weather and synergy they should be able to have better runs and be able to win harder modes.
On one hand we don't want to overwhelm players with tutorials. But on other we need to explain things. We'll have some tooltips in loading screens and we'll also try to explain main mechanics as quickly as possible through some tutorials.
      Thank you the feedback! :)

@@entertainmentforge4117 Thanks for your reply. For me it would be much better if I can make a complete strategy before the fight and then watch it unfold, dont know how many other players like this idea, but for me less random is better because like I said before it makes AI mistakes less likely to happen. Keep with the good work! Can't wait to play the final game

      Thank you!
We were aware of some of the problems he brought up. But he articulated them really well. Then to our great surprise he even had solutions for most of them. We try to listen to players feedback and we have been going back and forth with the game a lot. Trying different things. But his feedback was probably most useful we got so far. Since he didn't just throw ideas, he thought about how the game as whole be affected by each of them and how it would all work together to fix some main issues we have.

Maybe you can have a level capped event. Only level 5 gladiators and below and then only level 10 and below etc etc. This will help bring up the lower level gladiators.
I know that picking your team and letting the AI take over is the key point of the game. However, no one loves randomness at all times. One way to give players some feeling of control is small little in-battle buffs or de-buffs. You can explain this by your "owner score". More battles you win, more tournaments and you get a higher owner score...maybe even a liquid pool. You can spend some of these points to turn the tide of the battle by paying off an opponents gladiator or throwing a magical effect on the field...there are tons of ways to make this happen.

Level cap would help with pushing player to get more gladiators. But I'm not sure if we'd want to restrict you from levelling up gladiators you like. Thanks for idea. We might need it. But hopefully we can solve this in other ways like gladiator fatigue and other ideas that were proposed.
We thought about giving player some interaction and at some point of development we even had a feature like that. But we ended up agreeing to remove it. We figured that core of the idea for the game is to prepare gladiators, plan, and then sit back and watch the results. Instead of being on edge when to throw a spell etc. It is not a bad idea at all. But it kind of doesn't fit with our vision. Although complete randomness of the battle can be a problem so we added priority points setting that you can tweak to help with that. And we might even give more options like I shown in video. To tell each gladiator how much to prioritize each enemy. We'll see how that goes but it could give more control and make game more fun.
      Thanks for the feedback!

@@entertainmentforge4117 no problem. I really hope this takes off as I can really see it as a fun, competitive gaming option. I see the potential of it to act more like a TCG than anything. The streaming and multiplayer tournament content is endless.

@@DrewCNewOrleans Yeah. Maybe at some point near end of development we can try some PVP stuff but no promises as we don't know much about multiplayer coding and we wouldn't like to make a mess there :D But we'll see.
Thought game has nice streaming potential. And we even had modes where chat can write their own teams and then 16 or 32 teams would fight automatically one against another until one team wins. But we changed so much things in the game that this Twitch mode fell behind and is not functional anymore. We'll probably bring it back at some point during Early Access with other smaller Twitch features like name of gladiators in shop could be generated by people in chat. Or watchers could vote on some decisions.

Hello. Been following development for a while. New changes looks amazing. As regard to customizing the battles i think adding more options for the player is always a good thing unless you need those options to beat the game in normal modes. For example needing to know how to set priorities correctly to beat the easier modes may become too overwhelming and involved for the casual player. By all means for the harder modes and those wanting a challenge having the options to set priorities for the gladiators is a great and fun tool for those wanting to maximize efficiency.
Just a question about the game as it stands, What is the end game? Is it beating a set number of tournaments and then the game ends? I would love to see some sort of infinite replayability (but also a definitive end to the game so it doesnt feel pointless) so you can continue to use and grow your epic team that you crafted for many hours rather then beating the game and discarding them all, especially if you have gone to the trouble of personalizing many of them. Perhaps even a PvP mode like a ranked ladder or just a ''highest damage fight'' or an endless mode where you try and beat as many battles back to back as you can before all your gladiators die. I have no idea if this is an option or not i just figured while i'm here i'll throw around some ideas :D
I was also thinking to encourage people to make larger teams of gladiators on top of the cooldown changes make an arena like a ''Royal Rumble'' style where the player must have a team of at least 10 (or perhaps more if possible) Gladiators to enter and have large rewards for completing them as it is likely you will lose many gladiators having so many on the field. If nothing else the battles would look epic and be an absolute mess of gladiators which is always fun to watch.
Another option may be a draft mode where you draft a team of Gladiators and pick from random items and see how far you can go using just strategy as gladiator levels will be the same. Either a separate mode or perhaps in game if you are waiting for your gladiators to recover from getting wiped and need somewhere to earn a bit of extra gold.
I know a few of these ideas are building on the base game and are not a priority right now but i'm just putting them here if you wanted to add more content later.
Game looks amazing and like a lot of fun. You have a lot of work to do i think as the possibilities feel pretty endless but that is definitely a good thing.
Looking forward to picking up early access day 1

Thanks for following the development! :)
I also think that it should be playable without doing any prioirtization. Gladiators already have ideal setting for most situations. But if you want to try specific strategy it could be fun to be able to affect their behaviour a bit.
About end game. Idea is to make it repayable. So you would finish last arena (now we have 6, we will probably have 7 in Early Access and 12 in Final Game). But after you finish last one, you can keep replaying them, or playing Ring of Death. But you'd get a window telling you that you won the last championship and you would get some points with witch you can unlock new gladiators, items and quirks. Then when you start next game they can appear randomly. So overall each time you play you have different type of gladiators that will be randomly available so it should keep game fun for replaying. Although, some infinite arena option like you suggested would not be a bad idea. We'll think about that.
Yeah big battles would be fun. We have some big battles for quests in plan for now.
We did have something like draft mode in mind actually. As a separated mode. Idea was that it would feel like card game. You'd get to choose some gladiators and items. Then if you manage to win few battles, you'd get to choose more. Idea is not flashed out yet and we will most likely add something like that sometime during Early Access.
True, so there are so many ways to make this game. We went back and forth a lot already. But hopefully we're on the good path now. But yeah, a lot more work ahead of us :)
Thank you for ideas and support!

@@entertainmentforge4117 That sounds awesome. Love the idea of new gladiator unlocks upon game completion.
I wonder in the future if a ''hero'' gladiator could be an idea. The idea being you unlock a hero upon completing the game and you can start the next run with it with an increased difficulty on the next playthrough. The idea being the ''hero'' may contain a team buff of some kind so the player can pick the hero with the buff they like will influence the strategy they want to use to get past the next run.
For example picking the archer hero ''Shilah the windrunner'' gives all ranged gladiators on your team +15% attack rate. (Forgive me if quirks already act similarly this way, i'm only playing the prologue so i dont have a lot of familiarity with all the current quirks.)
Just an idea to keep the player invested as the hero gladiator would become more of a focus and they would care about the way they used them and build a strategy around them specifically.
If this goes against your vision for the game i understand. I know the idea isnt to make it about 1 specific gladiator but to build an entire guild of balanced gladiators. Again just wanting to share thoughts.
Thank you for your reply. Even more excited for the early access!

@@acvgaming5601 We had a lot of suggestions about hero gladiators. We are not sure about this yet. Exactly like you said, it would go against the idea of focusing on strategy and you would push towards building team around that hero. But if at some point we figure out a way of doing this we might implement it. Overall it sounds fun having a special unit (hero unit) that is your main champion. But we'll see. You should be kind of able to do this with the game once we implement few things like training. You'd first get lucky at some point and find a gladiator with perfect set of quirks for them in shop. Then you can focus on them to level up more. Train them for special quirk. Upgrade their building for most items and train them for special training quirk. And they would be way above your average gladiator. But still, we'll keep the Hero unit idea in our head for future and see how game goes along and if it would make sense to implement it in future when we see all the other things implemented and how they work.
      Thanks!
