Solid Build!!!!! ... I have 2021 Talon 2, brand new 1 1/2 ago...to date Im running a 35 Gold RL (tapered) boost, deore 5100 groupset with a single crank, yete grips, handle bar changed out as well and tires Maxis Shortys 29×2.5s... With me, it was so I could gain experience on working on MTB's. Running 203mm front disc and 180mm on the rear, but with Tectro hydraulics, soon to be deore 6100 hydraulic is my next upgrade. Every hobby has its cost and loss, as long as your happy and I'm a happy camper.
@J R yes... I bought the Shamano deore m5100 32 teeth 75mm crank wilhich came with a bottom bracket or BB replacement on ebay. I did try to run the stock 2 by crank with the deore m5100 with 11-51T group set but it would stay on the 51 teeth cassette. So I just decided to make it consistent with the deore single crank. I know some would say why invest a talon but I'm pretty happy. I used a lot of you tube to kinda get me moving or atleast understanding how to do it. But some cases I did end up bring to a shop for adjustments.
I have a similar bike Talon 4, I would love to make some upgrades too, I would love to change the entire drivetrain. I was wondering if you list the brand/part number for each part of the drivetrain or if you offer the parts online and I can order it directly from your store site? I'm sure I'm asking too much.
Awesome video!! I have a Giant talon i got last year, been looking to do some upgrades. So I figured ill go to my local bike shop. Asked what would be some good upgrades, and basically got laughed at and was told that for my bike it wasn't worth it , just get an upgrade bike . Lol than I saw this!!!! Thanks for this video!!!
I needed a better bike right away and got this too over the Talon 2 they were offering me. Tbh I maybe could’ve gotten that Talon 2 but I was trying to save my bread at the time and needed a proper commuter and I wanted the green frame in all seriousness. The bike shop I purchased it at also scoffed at the idea upon me asking details to upgrade it. This video pleased both of us mate and it’s always something when the dudes at the shop look down at ideas like this, you would think they would be into customizing a ride but nah… I guess some people are just better than us. Cheers mate 🤙🏽
Hi, would appreciate some advice re my recently purchased Talon 4. I have found it to be too slow when road riding so want to know if I can switch out the chainset for a 30/46 instead of the 22/36 it came with and if so does any of the derailleur need altering ? Thanks in advance
How did you go from the front quick release hub to using a through axle? I currently have a Norco Storm 4 and am wanting to do some big upgrades to it.
Question, if I go from 2x7 drivetrain to a 2x10, do I have to change the shifter also, and do I get more speed or range since I live in the city and would want more speed? Thank you
You will have to get a 10-speed shifter. With a 2 x 10 transmission system, I think you'll get 12 to 14 functional gear combinations. To me, that's more than enough for high speed on flats & light pedal stroke on ascents.
Got a Talon 3, did you installed a tapered fork to your straight tube? Did you need to convert using an adaptor and what is the diameter of your head tube. Thanks! More power to your channel.
Hi. I bought a second-hand bike from a second-hand shop. But the series is not visible. And it's strange. because it has 3x8 speeds, but the shifter is only with two, not with three. something is wrong and I would like to know. How can I figure out which model it is? I need to know what model it is because it has some defects and I need to buy some parts, and I don't know what model it is. Do you think you can help me? Thank you
I cant seem to find any basic bike size guides for a xc setup, just ordered a Talon 3 29er size Large frame (following the company guidelines for height) but it turned out HUGE, have about 1 inch space between topbar and crotch while standing on ground. Any recommendations for what I should consider for simple beginner bike fit?
I got a large 5010 and wanted to bring the handlebars closer and higher. I saw the stem you put. DMR defy 35 35mm with +10 degree. You recommend that? I kept looking for combo riser bar and shorter stem. Maybe the DMR stem is all I need.
Great video bro...I noticed you swapped the original fork which was straight steer to the Manitou which was tapered. Do you need to have a special headset for that? Is the Talon's steerer tube straight or tapered? I wanted to change to a tapered steerer fork but my steerer tube is straight. Just wondering if it's possible. Any help will be great!
Thanks! Yes I did have to replace the headset to get the Manitou to fit, I used a cane creek 40 series zs/ec 44 headset - this is 44 mm in diameter on the bottom and top headset cups, and the lower one has an external bearing and the upper is a zero stack. Hope that helps!
Nice video! I'm getting this bike because my current budget can't afford a more expensive bike. Probably gonna change the fork and the brakes when I'm going to be able to. 1 question tough can you put 120 mm forks on it? I want to use it as a light enduro mtb in the future
You can put 120 mm travel fork but it's not recommended to go above that value. I 've changed my fork traval in talon 1 (with sxc 2 air fork) from 100 mm to 120 mm and it works really well.
Yeah man we have a drivetrain tuning video coming out soon so stay tuned! If you have any specific questions you can email us at themtbgarage@gmail.com and we will adress them in the video. Thanks! Ride on🤘
Great video. I recently bought a Talon 2 (2021). Definitely looking at upgrading the fork. Anything specific I need to know about that? I believe it doesn't have a tapered headset so that might make it more difficult? Thanks!
Thanks for the comment! You would have to replace the lower headset cup with an external 44 mm cup to fit the tapered steerer tube. I recommend just replacing the entire headset with. a Cane Creek 40 Series.
@@TheMTBGarage I also own a Talon2(2021) and looking to upgrade the fork..The Cane Creek 40 series can fit into a size S frame? or is the headtube size different for every frame sizes?? Newbie here!
@@ShaN-fz3zv The diameter of the headtube does not change between frame sizes but the length of the headtube does so you need to be careful with the steerer tube length. Did you put your fork on backwards?
No, seems like that but if you look closer you notice that the disc mount is in the back position (like the brake arch, some few forks come like that)
If I wanted to put a bigger crankset on, would I need a new bottom bracket?
Dropper post, tubeless and 1x and a 10-51 cassette surely?
