  • In California, we dine out at a restaurant powered by robots. Then in Washington, we take a sip of a beanless cup of coffee, which aims to reduce the environmental impact of the popular beverage. Watch these stories and more on "Eye on America" with host Michelle Miller.

In regards to the AI story one thing I dislike about the news is that they report on what these companies are saying as if they’re being truthful. I just wish there would be a little bit of pushback. In one breath, they say oh AI is here to help humans and then just a few seconds later they’re saying that the restaurant is planning on running with only two people running back of house. That’s 100% replacing labor. AI that assist us would be like a camera with info red that could tell when the burgers are done and let you know automatically. Literally flipping the burgers and making the french fries is replacing. This type of reporting is not helpful to most people watching your news broadcast. I personally think when news corporations do this type of reporting it is just as despicable as the people they allow to lie on their broadcast. These AI companies also say it’s hard to get people to come in. Which is a true statement, but it’s left open ended it makes it sound like workers are lazy or not enough labor to go around which I would argue is not the case. And please do not believe these people, if they’re willing to lie and be deceitful they will be collecting collecting your photos and your ordering history. They already do that through stuff like rewards programs. I love the thought of where I can take us, but I’m afraid that in the meantime, the rich will get richer and the poor will get poor with our jobs having less safety in them.

Fun fact: there is no such thing as beanless coffee. (Its a coffee flavored energy drink)

Right. They shouldn’t legally be allowed to have the word “coffee” on their product.

So, in order to replace one coffee plant they are using extract from 4 to 5 plants. Super way to save the industry. 😂😂

Not the "not enough labor" red herring! These restaurants don't pay enough, especially in the higher cost of living parts of the country. Also, how much do those at the top of the food chain make in comparison to the workers? Why is the cost passed on to the consumer and not the higher up? Shame on you CBS for not pushing back on this.

So you still use plants as your raw material, how is that have a lesser effect on the environment? Tea is also grown in old forested areas, same as the rest of the ingredients. What they r looking for is to keep paying the low prices the nestles of the world always paid the farmers. Coffee actually can become a great driver for reforestation as it can grow under the shade of trees, all you have to do is reward the farmer for this better practice instead of drving millions of farmers out of business.

The thing is about the coffee, is that it is still impacting the environment negatively. The end of the day, you’re still using green tea and other plants which are still causing deforestation. The problem is not coffee, it’s the rate that we consume. We need to cut back consuming.

Atomo’s concoction sounds like a nutty tea blend. As long as Atomo doesn’t call their drink “Coffee”, then it’s fine. There’s room for everyone.

EV's do nor REQUIRE special "chargers". Most EV'x charge via regular 110 or 220 outlets which are available EVERYWHERE, and outnumber gasoline pumps by the 100,000's. Very few people I know with an EV, ever use chargers.

Why imitate or mimic human biomechanics instead of engineering a better process to prepare those foods? All those automated machines like bottle filling plants or ice cream factories work in circular paths, copying how a human workflow of side to side or back and forth seems so pointless.

  • @dillardphilosophy3333

The "beanless coffee" model is irrational and illogical. You need to use 5 different products to do the job of one product, which is not sustainable. Using coffee beans is actually the sustainable alternative to the "beanless" model.
And trend of "AI restaurants" is not due to the increase in the minimum wage. It is due to corporate greed and the nature of a capitalist society. The fact of the matter is that in a profit driven society, AI is cheaper than people, so the economic consequence of this means more AI = more profit = less people employed = more profit.

Do you say lab? Sounds like chemistry not food Coffee needs hot water. Is the factory that produces this product going to be a huge chemical plant?I hate it when people say they are doing things because they want to save the planet. It feels dishonest. It would be better if he just said I’m trying to make some money doing something new. I would at least trust a person. 😂
If the demand for this new blend is the same as coffee wouldn’t those ingredients need to be produced at mass scale aswell and cause the demand for those other inputs to rise and a need to plant more teas and sunflowers? I wonder what they are going to serve the coffee in and are they also going to remove all the single serve products from a coffee shop and also stop people from driving to the coffee shop? How about just stop cutting down forests there is plenty of farm land everywhere Mabey not free water but there is lots of land. And if saving the environment is his main goal why do something that makes almost no difference. Unless your just hand waving to help your brand

Fun fact: If you remove people they wil have no job and no money to buy things from your local market that will cause more job loses and people will have no money buy your food and coffee.
Work-> Earn Money-> Buy. Robots doing all the work but this robots doesn't buy food and products which run the demand and supply.
