Like every city in Australia during that time, Launceston was thriving with manufacturing jobs available, beautiful well kept housing where people had great pride and respect.
Yep, now it's a communist disgrace where the working man and provider cant get work to feed his family without being injected with a bioweapon. People have got more stupid. Yet, an evolutionist would argue that the world is getting better and more refined. Hmm...
@heath gallagher Tassie has got so much going for it, but they need to get rid of politicians like Gutwein, Lambie, Oconnor, they are very dangerous and only tow the narrative. They are dangerous
@@homebrandrules The economy was much better back then, Australia was pretty self sufficient, we made our own cars, clothes, washing machines, shoes, TV’s. Housing was more affordable, less crime, etc
@@SVR1968 thanks again, I lived overseas for about 15 years n when I returned, it felt like the twilight zone, my country had been replaced with something I need to think of how to describe, so much more shallow n plastic, the people i mean, that fair dinkum aussienesss seemed to have dissapeared. Is this the cost of "economic success"??? ( not recently perhaps, but overall the resulting trajectory of the last 35 years has been very good) What state do u live in ?
I grew up as a teenager in the 90s yet these images of the pool at The First Basin remind me of what it was like then (I lived only a 30 minute walk from the pool). Carefree kids, families, people having fun outside. I wonder what it's like now?

I lived in Hillwood when the Tamar was clean and had no oysters. We used to use the boulders as slides. Take heart - if you fall out you can't go under..........
Tasmania is known as the European version of Australia, 15 to 20 years ago it was rear to see anyone who was of multicultural backgrounds in Tasmania. Even the local indigenous people there, if they don't tell you you'd never guessed. Living expenses were cheaper but Jobs were scarce

Launceston? Naw this one is is NOT the true Launceston, despite having a River Tamar nearby - this one is in Australia - the origional Launceston is or was the old capital of Cornwall - the joys of emigration!
Thoroughly enjoyed this documentary of Launceston. A pity we lost so much of our manufacturing. Thank you for sharing.

My lovely grandmother front and centre at 5:38!
Which one cause there are three ladies there? What did she told you about working there? lol
Not much has changed... They did love their gardening and flowers.
Cool to see the old hospital which is now the hotel today
Fascinating stuff. Thank you for uploading this 🙏
Glad you enjoyed it!
If only timemachines were real, I could stay in the 50’s and 60’s forever.
What is it that you most miss about this bygone era?
@@homebrandrules
The simpler life, better economy, plenty of well paying jobs, more religious, family orientated society.
@@SVR1968 I appreciate yr reply, could you be even more specific?

I love watching old history about Launceston TAS
Wow so interesting ❤️ Launceston has not really changed that much today. There are some differences but still a lot of things are the same.
And sadly all these great Aussie goods are no longer made here, the destruction of Australia’s manufacturing industry had been a complete disaster.
Couldn't have said it better myself
The Lima Agreement and globalisation hasn’t done us any favours. Sad reminder how prosperous things were 😢
Life looked so much simpler and better back then.

It is SHIT

I wish the Tamar was that clean today. We have to row in it so I want it to be enjoyable if we fall out.

Where have all the people gone? The CBD is just dead…
Cars happend
Don’t get too caught up in rose tinted glasses, it wasn’t all great back then.
It was racist, sexist and pretty rough. Medicine was poor.
lol i watched this at school
Wow, cool 👍
"Lawn-sess-ton", as opposed to "Lawns-ton", which I assumed would be the pronunciation. But I'm a foreigner.
Funnily enough, it is pronounced "LON-sess-ton" by Tasmanians today (Lon as in the "Bon" in "bond").
Lawnes - ton.. The Tasmanians cant even spell the name of their own city.
@@terryallport1426 I've never heard it pronounced lawn-eston, and I've lived here my whole life mate
❤
The female narrator's voice is deliciously articulate. That is lamentably gone, now, along with the bustling industry.

Yeah cheers buddy
I thought the same
