Only if you're cooking it in a taller container. You can just use it to make a normal cake using a cake tin! We have a few other sponge recipes on the website if they're easier to follow.
Just a tip, if you're going to dye batter, you're gonna want to avoid egg yolks because it adds a yellow color, so just use egg whites and it brings out the color much more!

is the food coloring really safe? the last time I tasted rainbow cake it was like p**p,maybe it was because the over coloring.
Food colouring doesn't taste great! (Just watch our rainbow pancake video). The best thing is to try and get really good quality colouring so that you don't need as much to get the same effect!

+SORTED Food ... Paste food colourings work even better than gel (they tend not to be sold in supermarkets, but bakery's usually sell them and you can get them online)

very nice... I was watching the sorted america videos again cause I love your videos so much I watch each one at least 3 times! But I would love to see your version of a classic Cuban. I lived in Florida for about 3 years and its a great sandwich! Good bread, mustard dijon or whole grain, dill pickle, slow roasted pork, ham,& swiss cheese heated between two hot iron pans so as it gets smashed down and heated really yummy!!!!

OMG this is the BEST recipe of all time!!!
personally whenever I make rainbow cake I always mix the colored batter directly in the piping bags (or ziploc bags) rather than dirtying a whole bunch of bowls, plus you don't waste any batter that way. just spoon the batter from mixing bowl into the bags, add color, twist shut, and squish the bags around until mixed before you cut the tips to start piping.
How long have you guys been cooking ? I love your stuff ! Now, if only I could make it without messing up ! :)

If you don't have someone to hold your piping bag, use the half pint mug as a holder and fold down the sides of the piping back around the glass so you don't make a mess.

My husband and I had a 3 tier rainbow cake as our wedding cake! We asked the lady who made it for us to keep it crisp and white on the outside for a surprise when it was cut :)
