What a great speech, yo can see how a real inspiration and change game was Green Day for Fall Out Boy. One of the best inductions speeches (or maybe the best) for my opinion. Perfect election.
Fall Out Boy was actually a solid choice for inducting them. I can't help but think Green Day (moreso, Tre) would've felt some kind of way if a band like blink-182 were inducting them. I only say this because i'm remembering how there was some one-sided beef back in 2002/2003 when both bands went on tour together. Tre Cool apparently hid away from blink most of the time because he felt like they weren't deserving of playing shows with them. Because they never struggled to earn their spot like Green Day did. That they weren't true punks or something. It seemed petty but i'm fairly sure Tre must've moved on past that by now. That said, Fall Out Boy is a band that actually has roots within the hardcore scene. Pete's ties to the hxc scene from playing in hardcore bands in the late 90s really solidifies them. In the eyes of Green Day, i'd imagine. P.S. If MCR hadn't broken up and were still around in 2015, i would have loved to see them induct Green Day as well. They had nothing but good words to share about GD back in an MTV interview when Gerard discussed the shows where they opened for them
Blink started in 1992, took them 7 years to get popular in 1999 Green day started in 1987, took them 7 years to get popular in 1994. I wouldn't call either band " true punks " anyway, since their music always had a pop sound. Blink was definitely NOT an overnight success.
Idk what's the best part: Patrick absolutely losing it and going full fanboy mode, Pete trying his hardest to look like a model throughout Patrick's part or the "fall out boy never played with Green Day" part
Pete…what WAS that??? No crack of a smile, pouty Zoolander style face posing 😆 the others were sort of trying to look “cool” but at least not …that. Patrick is the only good thing about this band to me 😬
Patrick was probably a bit nervous and rambled with his story about his love for Green Day but damn, Pete's speech did *justice* for Green Day. He had no paper in hand, and I'm not even sure if he memorized/practiced or just winged it as he went but he fcking nailed that speech.
@@jench8716 Right lol I couldn't tell much with Pat, he made it seem natural. But Pete was staring dead-on at that thing the whole time, until he went off script, only to go back to it
@@lavenderllamamusic but the fact that he acknowledged it and had no issue going off script and then back on made it kinda refreshing. i was fine with them having a script i'd be way too nervous to trust myself to improvise even though i would like to think i wouldnt be
2021 now and fall out boy went on before Green Day at hella mega. And although Pete said he liked not having to live up to playing with them because they are the best punk band of all time, he loved it. He was so fucking excited 😂
hello r&r, thank you for this record of green day made it in 20 years to the hall of fame. the punk rock time of their time was really fun. it was nice to see music can get sick and not about the sales. but, i was there to not believe 10 years foboy would say punk is with bad words. wish green day would say driving more on the boulevard would take that away and the swing of your strings is the problem. elle for fall out the girls
After 911 every song that came out was country "All American" stuff. Green Day took a chance and came out with an album that totally debunked that. American Idiot was a a total slap in the face. It struck a cord. Not only that, it became a successful Broadway show. Way to go Green Day!!!
To the infants: Punk is political. Punk is against war, racism, sexism, mysogyny, homophobia, transphobia, classism, homelessness, and consumerism. Punk is freedom through self-expression. It's the message, not the music. Pete Seeger, Woody and Arlo Guthrie, Tom Paxton, Phil Ochs, Johnny Cash, Kris Kristopherson, Willie Nelson, Jello Biafra, Billy Bragg. Punks. All of them. Green Day follows the winds of their creativity, wherever it might go. Its the homie who said, I know you were expecting another hip hop record, but here's a rad flute record instead. It's starting a whole ass cover band because you want to play Ramones and the Clash and Bowie and Billy Idol songs in bars with your friends. And be honest with yourself. Do you really want the band you loved 30 years ago to make bad photocopies of Dookie forever? I don't. And if you really sit the fuck down and listen to all their records, including their side projects, in order, I fucking dare you to find another songwriter alive or dead that is THAT consistently great over any 35 year span of music history. I'll fucking wait.
I missed Weezer (bc NOBODY ever expected Weezer to open for fall out boy) and caught fob and green day at hella mega in Atlanta. Still mad I missed Weezer but gd I fkng love green day
Who? Jason White? Nah he’s fine, he’s a touring member so he doesn’t count as an official member of the band so he doesn’t appear here although he was probably somewhere in that crowd.
@rocket8183, you most probably know that but he was briefly a 4th official member in 2011. They were going to release a Quatro album with his face on it. But Jason didn't want to ruin the trio so opted to be a touring member.
Blink wouldn't want to. To an outsider green day was definitely more popular than blink. And blink's mainstream success came as a result of or maybe received a push because of green day's influence, their bringing punk music to a pop world. However blink always says that green day never influenced them which could be true because they came up at around the same time. But blink's success was definitely increased due to green day's presence in the world. But they never talk about it publicly. I have never heard them praise green day or give them any credit. They wouldn't have wanted to induct because they consider themselves peers. Unlike fob, sum41, MCR, Paramore, and many other bands who are what they are because of green day and admit them as their biggest influence.
"I know this will piss a lot of people off, but one of my favorite punk bands of all time is Green Day." 🤔 not exactly the best thing you can say about a band.
NO disrespect but there are a lot of bands that are way better that Green day who deserves to be inducted in RRHF. I guess power chords does the job.
