    The dfam architecture is amazing for techno improv. Paired with a digital drum machine like the tr8s it's infinite amounts of fun and I have found nothing else like it. I might sample it for other purposes, but its design really lends itself towards 8-step hypnotic techno.

    I use the cv.ocd to clock it and it works quite well, aside from having to reset the sequence at the last step each time you restart it.

    I slowly blinked when you said 2015 ... It's like yesterday, and I'm getting way old... Fantastic sounds you're eking out of these machines, made me sit up and take notice for the first time to the DFAM.

    I connect an Arturia Minibrute 2S to my DAW. The Minibrute has MIDI in and 3.5mm MIDI jack out, and is even cheaper than the DFAM :-) SO often I clock the DFAM via the Minibrute

      @@marco_movie ooooooo can you tap tempo or sync the temp with your DAW via the minibrute? Will have to look into this, was going to grab a Beatstep Pro

      @@NevermoreAudio Hello, I was also a bit surprised at your comment in the video about not being able to sync the DFAM easily. I own a Minifreak and I am borrowing a DFAM and a Mother-32 from a friend. It's easy to connect the DFAM to either Minifreak or Mother-32.
      For the Minifreak it's 'clock out' connected to 'Adv / Clock'. Minifreak is connected to the computer/DAW with USB.
      For the Mother-32 it's 'Assign' to 'Adv / Clock'. Mother-32 is connected to the computer/DAW with MIDI in an audio interface. You need to put the 'Assign' button in the right mode, there's videos about this online.
      Maybe you don't own either of these two. But I think any device with a 'Clock Out' should be able to sync your DFAM. The Beatstep Pro you mentioned definitely has a 'Clock Out'.

      @ yes you can. Basically I use the Minibrute as a MIDI-to-CV converter even though it is much more capable. You can also TAP. It has a large number display with the bpm, which of course the DFAM lacks. The only downside in doing this is that you cannot go too low or too high with bpm. If I recall well the minimum is 20

      The DFAM Thing adds even more functionality to the DFAM (and is compatible with the knockoff Behringer Edge). Don’t have one yet, but it looks awesome

      DFAM was my entry into electronic music, but I never made a song with it. Took me the M32, subharmonicon, grandmother, and Matriarch to realize what I actually wanted was a Muse.

      @NevermoreAudio  19 днів тому +1

      @ I’m going to find a way to clock it effectively in the new year and will try and make some music with it - if I can I’ll make a video about it, if I can’t I’ll sample every one shot I can squeeze out of it and then sell it!

    Sounds great! I know it's primarily for eurorack, but it's still way overpriced considering it doesn't have clock in/MIDI or USB. Moog's downfall seems to be catering to wealthy, snobbish fanboys and professional musicians without offering anything new and contemporary... when they do innovate, it’s often at an inflated price. Moog products are reminiscent of Apple's offerings: people desperately trying to convince themselves that the purchase was worth the money and that there are no (cheaper) alternatives, all while enjoying the status that comes with the brand. In the end, about 70% of the price you pay is for that Moog logo.
    EDIT: Don't get me wrong; I would buy some of Moog's products if I were one of those wealthy people. I'm just thinking objectively and giving myself valid reasons not to purchase them. :)

    • @NevermoreAudio
      @NevermoreAudio  20 днів тому +1

      Thanks for your comment! There’s a great conversation around brand here I think - to play devils advocate, maybe Moog targeting professional musicians and pricing accordingly might be a smart move. Until very recently Moog made almost everything in the US so their manufacturing was very expensive, and their heritage and history has made them a kind of ‘halo’ brand anyway - a Moog is a ‘Moog’ *insert sounds of awe and excitement*.
      The thing is, that gets eroded when they start to target everyone else. A Moog isn’t something you’ve only seen on stage at the Super Bowl anymore, you have two in your bedroom. Maybe it’s a bit like The Incredibles - if everyone is super, then no one is.
      Again, just playing devils advocate but it’s an interesting thing! Totally with you, £6000 for a Mini Moog reissue is insane.

      @Tkivo. The DFAM does have a clock input. It also sounds absolutely amazing and it can do way more than just drum sounds. Behringer already cloned it so you can get a cheap and poorly made knockoff for like a third of the price now with more interconnectivity. No need to gripe on UA-cam about Moog any longer.
