Love the sound! Classic Weatherford sound! Lily Fern is my favorite alto of all time! Smooth! The first time I heard her on a recording I thought it was a man singing tenor. The first song I ever remember her singing was Tell My Friends. Beautiful! I also love to hear her on Every Hour Every Day! I have a book on the Weatherfords I bought from her website. I recommend reading it if anyone is a fan of this group!
I actually remember watching the Weatherfords sing in Louisville when the NQC was there. I remember in particular one night they had some of the people who had sang with them on stage together! Great memories! I also have many videos of the Grand Ole Gospel Reunion they sang on!
I was at this concert and recall that Earl had an oxygen tank while singing. I also remember Glenn commenting on how "smooth" their singing was. This concert was recorded Nov 24, 1991 and Earl passed away just seven months later from congestive heart failure while on tour on June 17, 1992 in California. The bass note George hit at the end of the video was incredible.
ahh, Glen Payne...an outstanding irreplacable voice and spirit...as well as George. So many Saints of God with a true love of the Lord that really Shined in the music they sang and the good sense of humor they had. Good ole George..one of NC and PA's best!! I loved old stuff I found with Glenn singing with the Weatherfords in the 1940's! This is Outstanding!
What a precious video with these very special singers. Earl & Lily Fern, Steve, George & Glen and Kenny Payne on the piano. Love these songs they sing. Thank you for posting!!
Ahhhh, the reason for the buses! Though I'm not Christian, I've always appreciated good music and even moreso, this great old-timey traditional style. Thanks for the treat! I'd love to hear Y'all sing Old Rugged Cross - I think it's my favorite - a dear, departed friend used to sing it so well, and it brings him right back when I hear it.
I remember George telling about the people being so surprised that a woman was part of the Weatherford Quartet. The only way, other than concerts, to hear them and other groups was by Radio. We who grew up in, or mostly in, the age of TV, didn't have to fill in the blanks the way they did.
This was the resurrection of an old popular group in gospel music. I think this might have been one of or Earl's last performances being going to Heaven t to see the Lord.
Well, most of them are all singing that song on the flip side of Jordan now........There will never be any better harmony as tight as this is......Steve, God blessed you to be able to be influenced by those 4 people........and I know God's hand was on that song!!
oops! Meant to say oHI-a for George! There are so many OH's and PA's down in NC now I get everyone mixed up! lol....and I forgot to mention those voices of Miss Lily Fern, Earl, & Steve as well as the Beautiful style Kenny had of playing piano! Can't say enough good things about this :) So thankful ! I'll have "...beside chilly Jordan.." stuck in my head for the next week! :D
priceless!
cherished
Thanks a million
