*Rita, Sue and Bob Too* (1987) written by a *Bradford* writer, set in *Bradford,* and filmed in *Bradford* the world's first *UNESCO City of Film,* is one of the greatest *Yorkshire* films of all time. It also features *Dene Michael* and *Alan Barton* from *Black Lace* (a partly Bradford band) singing *"Gang Bang"* in one scene, which can be found on UA-cam, along with the full film.
If you're watching this and not a Brit of a certain age, just take our word for it: that bit about Leeds being a byword for sophistication was piss funny at the time this was broadcast.
You're right , comedy was simply better back then , people weren't so offended by everything. It wasn't meant with the intention to offend , it was just made to make people laugh , and back then people understood this , unlike today.
That was irony even back then, never get away with it now of course with the woke culture that seems to be taking over. Harry and Paul are great comedians. Great vid Eddie 😂
Eddy, just stumbled on to your site, your laugh is infectious. Have you ever seen anything from Stuart Lee? Started in the 90's I think. Start with Stuart Lee Braveheart. Give it go fella. Great vids Thanks .
Racism in Yorkshire cricket is a current issue - but nothing to how it was back then. Compounded by the fact that for a very long time (until 1992) you actually had to be born in Yorkshire to play for the county. They were the last, for example, to even allow overseas guest players.
'Racism' has completely lost its meaning these days. The guy who complained about Yorkshire Cricket Club being 'racist' to him had been treated so badly that he'd been made captain.
Nowt wrong with been honest Eddy .... only thing all thus la dee daa gets us is ,similar to the way tech is leading us . Less and less interactions mean a lower intellect if species ... the comedy of yester year had your mind racing .... And helps to be thick skinned , as tines you need to shrug a chip off the shoulder and just laugh at life's servings!!
It's like bacteria..... we don't irradicate bacteria ,totally or make our hones a total !!! Clean room ....as our species needs some bacteria, to build our immune system . As without that we'd be weaker
I don't think comedy like this wouldn't be on telly now because of political correctness. It's just because the jokes are old. Like the catherine tate gay jokes are relevant to how society was 20 years ago. Same with little britain Dafydd or harry enfield's gay dad. Of course all these homphobias and sexisms still exist but 20 years ago it was the norm on a way it isnt now. So its rewlly funny to watch still, buy a new comedy coming out with the same kind of jokes would feel a bit out of place.

Harry Enfield made a sketch called the Benny Elton Show, in which Ben Elton took the piss out of himself brilliantly.
Yorkshireman here, from Morley. This is not a comedy, it's actually a documentary!
You are making me almost piss myself, apologies 😂 just so funny
Wasnt that Charlie Higson with tje pony tail (sounded like him)?
Have you seen any of The Fast Show?

We're not all like him, in Yorkshire.
Just most of us.
loved it when you said " you need to be open " to things !! because your mind is just like a parachute - if it isn't open, it's useless ?????
Well said
Have you ever seen some of Kenny Everett's sketches--- he was hilarious.
You ought to see some Les Dawson monologues, and then his piano playing.

This is PC comedy the butt of the joke here is the bigot
You have to watch Hale and Pace Yorkshire Airlines. Very funny.
Good stuff. :)
Hale & Pace...not Harry Enfield
