He represented the healthy type of love based on mutual respect, understanding, communication, tenderness, loyalty. Yan Lin was the second choice for me. He represented the youthful first type of love. He was somewhat naive at the start of the story but grows to become a brave outstanding general and matured emotionally. But I definitely disliked Xie Wei as a love interest. He was the very representation of toxic love and he was a huge red flag. He was violent, volatile, cruel, toxic, manipulative, controlling, abusive.

Yan Lin and his father really have a healthy family relationship. It's no wander Yan Lin had such a happy childhood, his father let him roam free and make his own decisions as well as his own mistakes. And it's impressive how from the start Yan Lin's father know by intuition that Xie Wei was his nephew. He could recognize that despite Xie Wei twisted personality as an adult there were also good values that his sister made sure to teach her kid. Those good values that the Yan family had was actually want made Xie Wei not lose his mind completely after all.
