@@melioda9554 It’s hilarious when people like you think that just because someone hits 500 HR that gets them into the Hall of Fame. Lol.
Alonso won’t ever belong in the same stratosphere as the other 500 HR hitters who are in the HOF.
Firstly, the lowest batting average of any position player in the HOF is .253 and that’s because the he was an outstanding defensive player and the veterans committee voted him in.
Alonso is a career .249 hitter. Alonso would need to hit around .260 each of the next five seasons to get his career average to .253.
Then, when you look at the other 500 HR hitters in the HOF why don’t you tell me who’s jockstrap Alonso even sniffs:
      Hank Aaron
      Babe Ruth
      Willie Mays
      Griffey Jr
      Jim Thome
      Frank Robinson
      Harmon Killebrew
      Reggie Jackson
      Mike Schmidt
      Jimmie Fox
      Willie McCovey
      Frank Thomas
      Ted Williams
      Ernie Banks
      Eddie Matthew’s
      Mel Ott
      Eddie Murray
And the lowest batting average amongst all the 500 HR HOFers is .256 with EVERYONE else at .262 or higher.
And there’s plenty more Alonso doesn’t even come close to when compared to other 500 HR hitters.
So at the end of the day, really seems like YOU don’t have the common sense.

Boras screwed this up! Sold Pete a bill of goods that he’d make way more than the market dictated and he’s in staring contest mode now to try and save face. It’s gotten to a point that negative emotions on Pete’s side kinda hard to avoid and might be best served he moves on. If I’m the Mets, I only sign him if he fires Boras, as that can help smooth over those negative energy vibes

He brings in people generates $$$ He struggles at the plate yet hits 30 hr's. He needs to stay and he'll be getting pitches He wasn't getting before.

BT, once again is full of hot air. Here is my progression. All regular season I was part of the contingent that groused that he was nothing more that Dave Kingman. I had been SCREAMING at the TV all year yelling at Pete to use CF and RF. The guy was trying to jerk everything to left. By the end of the regular season I was indifferent about Alonso. But then the playoffs came and the guy got selective and started using the whole field. In the postseason, Alonso was 12 for 44 (that's .273) with 10 runs scored and 10 RBI. He remembered that everything to the right of left field was still considered fair territory and became the Pete Alonso of 2019. I think the poor guy was affected by two things. The first was talking heads like yourself saying that his 53 HRs of 2019 were because of the juiced ball. ("Oh geez," he must have thought subconsciously, "I gotta swing bigger to get the ball outta this park!"). The second thing was trying to hit a ton of HRs to earn a 200 million dollar contract. When Pete remembered that right field exists, he became a guy who CAN be worth a a big money deal. He HAS that in him. He just cannot let the talking heads and idiot agents get into his head.

    • @TheKilrmy
      @TheKilrmy 7 днів тому +1

Alonso was hitting .216 up until the last two game against the Dodgers. Alonso was continuing his terrible hitting. In the last two games against the Dodgers Alonso got two hits in each game and THAT is what brought his average up to .273. A couple of good games in a small sample will jack up the batting average BUT Alonso absolutely did not have a good playoffs. That narrative is nonsense. A couple of clutch hits makes people think he’s a god and because of those last two games his average went to .273 and people act like he had a consistent playoffs where he hit .273 across the board.
In a three game series if a guy goes 0-3 in each of the first two games and then 3-3 in the last game he’s going to have a .333 average for the series but that guy DID NOT have a good series. Thats what Alonso did.

Her is the problem with BORAS -
he bases projected salary on PAST performance
in the 60s there was no long term contracts,
you do well, you make the owner money, we reward you the NEXT year,
you SUCK, you deserve to take a pay cut, even return some of what we paid or expected,
Cohen PAID Pete even more than what he was seeking year after year,
a huge contrast to the Wilpon's when he earned more money in the HR derby,
so like Cohen said last year, I hope he performs well
for if and when a player does and he makes his owner say
he's worth keeping around, he's making me money, so I will reward him.
Problem today is = many show up
and demand a pay check just for showing up
    and doing nothing

Who’s protecting Soto if not Pete? You can’t ask second year Mark Vientos to do that. Vientos is fine as your 5th hitter where he’s essentially a depth power hitter who can move up in the event of injury. Nimmo is not enough of a power hitter either to protect Soto. the Mets need that 35-40 HR threat behind him to have an offense that can compete with the top teams in the NL. It Vientos is playing 1st and Baty 3rd on opening day, the offseason is objectively a failure. The difference between Soto and Pete is 7 HR 21 RBI. That will not be enough to win a World Series

Speak for yourself Zack, not all of us Mets fans want Pete back. I loved Pete as a Met, but ultimately the goal is to win a WS & for the $ he's asking for compared to what he provides for that $, he's not worth it & the ones in the front office also have that same sentiment which is why they gave him and Boras their hard line on what they're willing to give him. One of the only things that has always proven to be true in this game are the numbers & his numbers have been on the decline for 3 yrs. Also shame on those Mets fans who booed Stearns at Amazin day. He has done nothing but prove himself with smart transactions since day 1 and took a team every Met fan (myself included), analyst, etc counted out last year and got to the NLCS within 2 wins from the WS. Pete had his chance under Eppler to sign that extension but bet on himself and lost. If Pete would have signed that extension, most of the same Met fans that booed Stearns and who want Pete back now would have been calling for his head after the seasons he's had since and would be screaming how his extension was a mistake.

I don’t have any sentimental attachment to Pete at all. I’ve been watching him longer than almost all Met fans since I’m a Gator fan too. I want to win and last season really put a fork in it for me with Pete. He isn’t a leader in the clubhouse and pressure he doesn’t respond to very well. I would rather have better defense at 1st base and a power hitting DH. That would make this team 💯 better than re-signing Pete.

Alonso has been paid for his “track record” already!!!! And while his salary was going up like crazy his performance has been declining. • @jasonfocacci9234
      @jasonfocacci9234 7 днів тому +3

Incorrect. The Mets offered Alonso 7 years at $170 million last year. He took bad advice from his.agent and turned it down, and there is currently no market for him. Now his agent is trying to recoup some of the money he lost his guy, so he is trying to create a market that doesn’t exist. The only way to do that is by waiting as long as you have to. They don’t care if they don’t sign until March.
