I started hiking trying to save my life when the cardiologist said it would take a miracle for my heart to heal and there was nothing I could do. Well, I got my miracle 😂. Hiking practically saved my life. I now have the heart of an athlete, dropped 8 sizes and hike 5 days most weeks now. I don't do climbs as high as yours but I do hike the ridges here in southern Ohio.
You echoed me on so many motivation points that I just had to give it a shot myself. Even being surrounded by mountains and trails. I live outside Albuquerque, NM. I'm through day 8 and still excited for (nearly) every morning!
Great video, very motivating. My playground is The San Gabriel Mountains and been up there gives me peace. Loved your UCSB sweater because my daughter went there. Go gauchos !!
I found this video by searching for hiking weight loss. Great video with lots of amazing shots and addictive editing too! I hike a couple trails around Reno but do not even recognize a lot of the places showcased. What app/website did you use to find all these spots? Also, is your drone the DJI mini? Very inspiring video! Thank for helping me combat winter hibernation!
We learn more from our failures than we do our successes. I've learned to use the wrist strap for walking sticks when I'm crossing a river; they are quite buoyant you know. Don't bring unnecessary changes of clothes; you don't need a fresh pair of clothes for every day you are hiking. Knowing and dressing for the weather is extremely important. Lightweight materials are far easier to carry than bulky/metal ones. Air still weighs something and removing unnecessary air from your clothes/air mattress/sleeping bag/tent/etc. can make a huge difference over several days.
I litteraly never ran for the whole summer and a little bit into fall this year and my muscle memory is insane just went on a run today and when I ran I didn't feel tired or feel like I was loosing my breath and I was moving at a pretty good speed too. I'm glad I'm nose breathing it really helps when running. Edit: Oh yeah if you plan on hiking more train yourself to breath through you nose you will get some awesome benefits. Like you'll last longer. Warm, moist, and filtered air is getting into your lungs then from the mouth. Which is bad. And I really recommend you try because you will unlock new abilities I think I was able to run because of this.
I have also been on a new journey in the outdoors lately. Discovered some beautiful places here in town. I live in Sparks NV. Thank you for sharing your experiences. Maybe I'll see ya on the trails. 🌞🌲👣
Your mileage, is it one way, round trip? Hiking one way 6 miles means you would have hiked 12 miles. 12 miles is quite a bit for one day. I can definitely relate to everything you talked about.
Came across your video tonight as I was looking for some videos on rucking. Very inspiring! I'm actually from Reno as well and recognize these trails 😁
Thanks for sharing Kristen. Congrats on meeting your goal. Hopefully, our paths will cross sometime so that I can say, "Hello, nice to meet you" in person. It's funny how you can live only a few miles apart and never see each other. Cheers. -Andy
Aw thank you! Must’ve what you are seeing was with a Mavic two pro. However that one crashed itself in a jungle so now I have the Mavic air and it is also good!
I tried to find them online for you but I’m not finding the exact pair I have. I actually got them at a discount sporting goods store so they are probably out of season. I don’t see a name on them, sorry!
Where's your energy for work I hike in the mornings after work but I don't go on hikes this intense. With gas prices increasing so much it's kind of hard to drive where I'm at at least 14 miles up a steep road to the mountain.

Glad you like them! It was a Mavic 2 pro but I now have the mini. I mostly used AllTrails! It's helpful for up to date trail info too.
Nice to see the evolvment. Curious to see where you're at now. For me it is an up and down journey. In the end going up. I hope so.
I’m 9 months pregnant now so not hiking as much 😂 but I miss it!

Question: Been lookin' for a pair of tall black winter boot Merrells JUST like that (avid winter hiker). What are they called? Thanks!
I tried to find them online for you but I’m not finding the exact pair I have. I actually got them at a discount sporting goods store so they are probably out of season. I don’t see a name on them, sorry!

Hi from UK and would love to get involved with more hiking
Do it! Starting near home is perfect, even if it’s more like walking since I’m not sure how many mountains you may have nearby 😉
