Pretty scary of the distant tornado-warning sirens heard, Marshall.....and quite a lightning show too thus seen....nice rolling thunder as well as advertized.... Anyways...back on 5/16/99....an internet-met buddy named George Mies...living in Cheney KS....near the OK border...upon my request...and some six years before the advent of UA-cam..... he audiotaped for me 4 hours of tornadic Tstorms..with large hail, lotsa lightning/loud thunder/heavy rain/hail..and 2 times ..tornado sirens were heard..also on audiotape....he/family fled into his cellar when the siren was heard..but he left his tape recorder running inside his closed garage door..when he saw a rotating wall cloud only one mile to his W as the Tstorms were racing from SSW to NNE that wild SUN evening.....the audiotapes he nicely sent me on 5/27/99 were amazing...as they would have made for awesomed videoings and to be UA-cam-d.... So Marshall...what do you think of this one? Also..exactly 9 years ago today...the NYC area had a tornadic-Tstorm blast thru there..with tons of lightning and 100+ mph downburst winds...all on 9/16/10.....I have seen some incredible UA-cam videos of that. Anyways.....glad you got some nice footage from 5 days ago...I had only subtle thunder the next morning...video is on my channel..but rather unspectacular compared to my 8/19/19-Tstorm videos that you nicely saw....
Cool! I also remember watching lots of youtube videos from the storm that tore through NYC on 9/16/10. That event was VERY similar to the one 5 days ago here in Grand Rapids, but I haven't found much footage of the winds... just the aftermath. Some cars were smashed up by flying debris and/or pushed off the road by the estimated 80-100 mph winds, but amazingly no serious injuries were reported. The storm intensified and began rotating very suddenly, and was also moving ESE at 40 mph... so not much time to prepare. Two days ago my parents went to a friend of theirs' house to help clean up. They had a tree come through their upstairs window. The wind blew through and spread glass everywhere. A trampoline that originated from the backyard of a house a block away ended up wrapped around a tree on their property. They also lost power for 4 days. Crazy stuff. As for me, I got a good soaking t-storm with lots of lighting, but the damaging winds missed me by about 3 miles. The path of the mesocyclone went directly between my house and my parents house. Neither of us even lost power. We were lucky. An even more dramatic example of a supercell RFD downburst/microburst happened on July 17, 2013 in Lethbridge, Alberta. That one has some AMAZING footage still up on youtube.
