One of my all time favorite performers, songwriter, book writer, entertainer, person.... I've been a huge fan of Janis Ian ever since I was a teen which is back in the sixty/seventies. Read the book she published a couple years ago Society's Child, incredible, and ghf album she put out with it. Then I was truly blessed and Janis Ian came and performed a concert in our little town of Santa Cruz in California. It was incredible, it was an honor to meet her and to have my'Stars' album signed. ❤❤❤❤❤
I heard Janis perform this just before 9/11 and was deeply moved. Then a few years later was at concert in a small club, literally only about 5 feet from her, against the low stage. When she introduced it I thought, "Oh, no, I'm gonna lose it." Well, I did have tears running down my face. In concert, her sound guy records what she sings on the "Kyrie" and plays it back, so it's all live. Amazing woman.
what's sad is this sond only gets 14000 views and something from the likes of miley cyrus gets millions....this song is amazing..and Janis Ian is amazing, I hope some day that the word will wake up and appreciate good music. I hope someday that artist like Janis Ian and Ani Difranco won't be stuck in obcurity, and people will understand what real music is, not manufactured bs.
Janis Ian in the beginning always completely annotated her vocals with either guitar or piano chords which was brillliant; not the transformed chords with simplified vocals but the original thing. I can recall in Holland it were one of the few scores where vocals and score completely diverted so it was a great challenge to play and sing at the same time.
@AyngelJ right before my mother died when she was in the hospital she would talk about the kids that would come to the foot of her bed and want her to play with them. I am sorry for your lost. I know exactly how you feel.
I hope some day people will just stop deciding that they music they appretiate is 'good' music and the music they dont like is instantly deemed 'bad'. I hope some day people can just shut up and enjoy the music..
This is the best recording of this I've found. Thank you for sharing.
