Fun fact: Lion was not a comeback, it was the song they performed for the finals of the show Queendom, and they just decided to release a music video for it
In a way, LION was a comeback since Queendom was supposed to be a battle of comebacks. But (G)I-DLE were the only group to take it as such and record a MV for the song. Other groups either kept their MV budget for another song of their next album (Mamamoo, AOA) or just did nothing with it.
Shea Massie yeah and they included it in this comeback’s album “I Trust”
Ohh reallyy!?
so thats the reason it doesnt have as many views i thought it should
its still revolutionary
The leader and rapper of the group, Soyeon (short hair on both videos) wrote and produced almost all of their songs and she also has the ideas for the concepts, she also helped with the direction in the video for ''Lion'' and with the performance for the TV show this song was made for (Queendom, not an official comeback). A theory I have is that the burning of the picture means they are destroying the usual idea of the male lion as the powerful and reverenced while they sing ''I'm a queen like a lion''.
Lion was their final song for QUEENDOM (They’re the only group that decided to release a music video along with their final performance). I would recommend the whole series at this point. The other groups and soloists were: Oh My Girl, Mamamoo, Lovelyz, AOA, Park Bom and ofc gidle. The performances were next level. You don’t need to watch the whole series, just the performances, but it’s nice to see them plan the performances and interact with one another :)
Roman all performances are some good. Particular Oh My Girl- Guerrilla and Twilight got my attention.
At the end of Lion, the painting that is burning is of a male lion. I take that shot as a somewhat subtle way of saying they are challenging the patriarchal nature of society in general, and the K-pop industry in particular. (G)I-dle is well known for being a self-producing girl group, something very unusual in K-pop especially to the extent they do it.
Yes, I am certain that was the message. Also when they were up at the top of the stairs it was all male CG lions at the bottom of the stairs. Also note that all of them put their own crowns on their head. They took them. They weren't bestowed. It was very much a girl power image.
Also soyeon's verse basically said fuck whatever people think, im gonna pave the way and shit on patriarchy
its the whole "I'm a Lion (not a lioness), I'm a Queen", she/them can stand by themselves without the need for a male, "I wont be tamed (submiss myself)... not even by Love"
I would strongly recommend all their Queendom Live Performances, especially Lion and Put It Straight (Nightmare Ver.). And if you haven't checked out their MVs for Uh-Oh ans Senorita you should do that. Uh-Oh is my personal favorite title track by them. Anyways thanks for the reaction! :)
sensi1988 agree, “put it straight nightmare version” is must watch ! Fire is also worth to watch too. Btw, Queendom got many great performances too, particular oh my girl, mamamoo, and pak boom
So soon as the Oh My God part finished I got an ad....that was the entire Oh My God video.
lucky you!
You lucky af
Yeah, (G)I-DLE has that impact on all of us. Soyeon knows how to get your attention from music videos and live stages. Thanks for your reaction. Check out (Blow your mind) -Minnie wrote the song
I WAS JUST CHECKING YOUR CHANNEL AND THERE WAS NOTHING THERE.
But literally, 3 minutes later and I am blessed
I think burning painting was mostly about burning the frames around lion, the change in screen to 4:3 is framed in golden frame which also represents cage
I got this from reddit but this is the theory for oh my god;
The song is pretty much about being gay and feeling condemned (it's taboo in Korea)
Minnie and Soyeon are fallen angels. Different is, Soyeon literally dancing her way to commit sin, so she went out of heaven on her own will. While Minnie was kicked out because she was caught of sinning.
Yuqi : is a human. During her first part, look at her worried face, and then you can see a glimpse of Soojin and Yuqi fell after that. This probably means that Yuqi who supposedly looking pure outside was also tested by temptation. She looked upward and there's Miyeon, Yuqi's face showed guilt and Miyeon dropped her wine goblet. (Wine was also used as a symbol of blessing and judgement throughout the Bible. Drinking a cup of strong wine to the dregs and getting drunk are sometimes presented as a symbol of God's judgement and wrath, and Jesus alludes this cup of wrath, which he several times says he himself will drink)
Miyeon is a forgotten Goddess in this whole plot. "Forgotten" because while she was on her throne, she's looking sadly at her people who didn't worship her as much (because the dancers were not looking at her and they were all in the dark) Refer to Shuhua's set as comparison as her followers on their knees facing her.
Shuhua is not a goddess but a heavenly being, probably archangel. She doesnt pass judgement like Miyeon did but she is worshipped more than Miyeon.
Soojin is the devil. Soyeon referred Soojin on her rap as "The Piper". Based on folk story, the piper did free the town of its rats, but the town council cheated him of his pay. Bent on revenge, therefore, the pied piper then lured all of the children away. There's a glimpse of Soojin in shackled. I believe, Miyeon restrained her. So when Soojin was free, she was hellbent to take as many of Miyeon's people with her as a revenge. Take note that Soojin's expression was void of joy, but a little bit of sorrow. But her expression changed at her second verse of "Oh My God" where she looked more confident in her decision to take all Miyeon's people to her side. That was why she whispered to Shuhua and tried to lure her, but instead of Shuhua, Soyeon was the one who came.
By this time, there's a scene where Minnie shot herself. And by that means, Minnie lost the battle with her desire and went straight to hell. Yuqi lost her way, no longer worshipping Miyeon as she's now fully on Soojin's team. She's still on earth because she's not dead yet.
The English version is even gayer. And I love both.
Good pick to react to their most recognised works lately. Btw, I would recommend you to react to “Lion” , “put it straight- nightmare version”, “ fire” and “latata” live performances in Queendom. You will love you for it.
I wonder if burning the lion painting at the end is about tearing down the pre-existing idea of patriarchal strength? Meaning they don't call themselves "lioness". Though they are female, they rule. So they're changing the game in a sense. If you say lion or ruler, you might envision a guy but they are strong, independent and capable women. (Soyeon's lyrics in particular made me think this. Getting rid of prejudices ... making a new path.) ... anyways I appreciate your genuine reactions. Keep it up!
I love your reaction JAKDJAKS It's amazing xD
