    I just got a FlySky CAT-01 altimeter for $13 US that I'm going to use with my Jumper T16 as the receiver. A lot has changed since 2013!

    Thanks for leaving the vario transmitter here when you went back to Ecuador!
    I will get a receiver and set it up on something. Maybe one of the flying wing gliders.

    Beautiful semi clear plane.

    I wish I gotten flight time like that! That was pretty amazing.

      You can fly forever in ridge lift like that, my nerves didn't last that long.

    I'll buy you a beer or two if you come for a trip to Norway. Totally different season here though :-) (snow and winter)

    Flaps? They look like spoilerons to me, hehe ;)
    Too bad about the crash in the end, I'd love to have a slope like that.
    Nice job!

      @Rchacker  11 років тому

      Yes my terminology is wrong, when I put them both down I call them flaps.

    I think I would have lost mine also. That was pretty fast. I had a gentle lady glider with a .049 engine and it didn't come close to those speeds.

    Would it be possible to have audio out to a speaker on the plane, which the FPV mic picks up and transmits back to ground station?
    Thanks very much

    • @Rchacker
      @Rchacker  11 років тому

      Probably, just make sure you use a transistor to drive the speaker. google "arduino drive speaker"

    Looks like it works well!! I want to do the same thing but FPV one day :)

      Might beat you too it, I was thinking of sending the vario output on the audio channel of the FPV gear.

    • @BMSWEB
      @BMSWEB 11 років тому

      RCHacker Yes thinking the same lol, I think it would make for an awesome FPV experience

      BMSWEB From experience unpowered thermic flight is way more fun and challenging than powered flight. Thats comparing hangliding to ultralights anyway.

    Hey Mark! Great Video! I was thinking about instead of using the RX and TX we could actually use the orangelrsng telemetry rs232 channel, let me know what do you think.

    • @Rchacker
      @Rchacker  11 років тому

      You will have to decide whether to send the raw pressure data, or an encoded vario tone. Either way, it will not sound as responsive sent over the slow telemetry link.

      Good point Mark, I will build to spec then, Thanks!

      RCHacker , I am using mine on a little glider for a while, I build exactly like yours and works like a charm, thank you! Keep up the great work!

      North East Victoria, about 300km NE of Melbourne. This site (Mystic) is our local hang/paragliding site. It gets a lot of use as a paragliding training site, hence the fake grass carpet on launch.

    You could use Patreon to get paid each time you release new content. (Just found about it myself)

      Looks like a load of bullshit to me. 'Hey put your videos on our website so we can get the advertising revenue from youtube then give you some ribbons.' Whoop de doo.

    • @lifeincycling
      @lifeincycling 11 років тому

      RCHacker I don't know how UA-cam revenue works but I don't think you have to upload it to their website or anything. Looks like its just a way to get consistent "pledges". I could be wrong.

    Really what I want are ultralight or hang glider instruments that output in big colorful digital LED seven segment displays. There are none. At all. A vario, an altimeter, an air speed indicator, CHT, RPM, etc. Red Yellow Green Blue etc . All in a vertical column, one over the other. Like the display panel in the back to the future Delorean. Get with your dad and start a cottage industry. You'll never make any money farting around with RC.

      all aircraft instruments an analog which are awful for precision, or LCD which are awful to read in bright or poor light or at a distance.

    i thought you would like this. i used an arduino board and some code to make a basic rc transmitter then embedded it into the 9x so i could connect the ps2 stick sliding pot and some knobs without loosing any of the stock ones. i just soldered it into the trainer input and select the channels via the ppm1 ppm2 etc in opentx

    don't worry, 8 year old kiddies won't be watching any rc hacking vids (if they do, they already know all the cool words lol)

    Great really liked this video, check out a channel called turdsurfer or something like that, he does a cool motor glider fpv over some cliffs in Italy. I hope to do something similar with my Phoenix 2000 glider soon.
