Tawnee I’m so glad your instincts saved that blind stallion’s life. It’s good for all of you to go from death to hope for a good life. I hope he makes it!
I hope that woman who seeks out blind horses will adopt him. I love her attitude toward the blind horses. She knows how to work with them, which is win, win for everybody.
Aren't mustangs not supposed to end up in slaughter? I know they did a lot of sales of older horses this past year on the government sight. A lot around 6 years of age would be interesting to trace whom he was sold to. If we got kill buyers buying up at those sales it needs to be addressed.
I believe when someone receives a mustang they become caretakers for the first few years. A contract is signed acknowledging being a caretaker. During the contract time, the mustang can not be sold or transfered because the person is not the owner. After the number of years stated in the contract the person becomes the owner and like any other owner, the person can sell or transfer ownership.
@amybaker5241 Many mustangs end up being shipped to slaughter. It's not just kill buyers. it's the people getting a mustang sometimes for $25.00. And up. There are different rules for the mustangs. How many times are offered for adoption? 3 times means something but I can't remember at this moment! How old they are. And just who really checks to see if adoptive is following the rules. The clever cowgirl on UA-cam has videos on mustang adoption events. Well worth watching her! Mustangs are very mistreated in my opinion! Should look up the many articles about them.♥️
I know at least at one place the people who buy them have to keep them for a year after which they can do whatever they like to them. I've heard of at least one family where all it members get them (there is a limit on how many a person can buy from that mustang auction) and then sell them for slaughter after the year instead of doing the training which is supposed to be done. Also if they have been up for mustang auction a few times (at least in those mustang auctions) and no one has brought them, they then sell them extremely cheap and without the normal rules attached to them so they have no protection on them at that point
@@brendabirkenbach8533 they apparently get 3 chances to be sold at auction adopotion events before they are sold without the normal protection rules which keep them safe for a while and at that point also are sold at any price eg $25. So they are at very high risk if they are not selected by someone during those first auctions.
Wonderful quiet intake, horses all quiet and trying to understand what is being asked, Instead of the crazy jumping and running scared flags being swung around them. Awesome 👍👍
To anyone hesitating to adopt an old horse with bad teeth ... I adopted one at 28, soaked all his food (senior and hay stretcher), and he lived happily for 6 more years. He was 17 1/2 hands and kept good weight. A shoutout to the Navajo Nation for their incredible talent. 💌
I have two oldies with oldie teeth. Both are doing great with soaked food and they both can still nibble on hay. They are so many good products for horses with teeth problems and for me it is not a reason to put a horse to sleep. Yes, it costs more and it has to be soaked but I gladly do it for my horses 😊
❤❤❤ I can't remember her name but she always comes and takes the blind horses. Maybe she can be contacted about this blind guy if he's going to make it through being gelded and become adoptable. She seems to see the value in those types of horses as more than a pasture pet. I think these buy-outs are saving more horses than the auction buys were. Am I correct? When is your next lobby in Washington D.C.? I saw another group of rescues in D.C. lobbying for the slaughter to be banned as well. Maybe someone will finally get through to the politicians and it will be banned soon.
I saw the rescue video of Honey and the rest of the Donkey herd... Just... Wow... If it weren't for the scars and missing ear, you would never know that's the same Donkey. She is 1000% better.
Yikes!!! Haley! Please stop turning the horses loose like that! One day you WILL get kicked.... Turn them towards you, so you are almost face-to-face, and then take the halter off. I have seen someone be kicked in the face by turning horses loose the way you do. PLEASE!!! FOR YOUR HEALTH AND SAFETY!! ❤❤❤
Agree 100%. Horse should be facing you and never cluck, wave or shoo a horse away from you at turn out. This is what teaches them to bolt through a gate to try and take off. Take the halter off and just let them stand or walk off calmly on their own.
I also noticed she tries to run them off after releasing them. That creates problems in the long run. Your horse will try to bolt out of the halter or just as you are taking it off. It is all about safety for the handler and the horse. Things you learn from others who have a bit more experience. Other than that, everyone is working so hard saving these babies. Great job to you all....
Not only is Sapphire's condition progressive, it's doing so pretty rapidly from the sounds of things. Fair journey to her. That radiograph of that poor horse's broken foot made me wince. Thanks for doing what the owner should have for him. I'm so glad he didn't have to be shipped to slaughter. A lot that are hopeful today. Those Arabians definitely have a bit of attitude.
Can i make a suggestion? With the blind horse....by the water trough, there looks to be a bunch of larger rocks. Might it not be better to move some of them out of his way, so he doesnt trip or fall?
Usually rocks around watering troughs are great for conditioning feet as well as avoiding it becoming like a swamp. The reality is, if he can't cope with that he isn't well adjusted to being blind and would be better off having the last act of kindness.
Blind horses wind chimes for shelter and hay. solar fountain to give sound of running water for water. So horse always knows what is in which direction no matter where they go. Saw it used on a horse in England it worked well both indoors and out. And is easily added with no additional cost between fields or establishments.
The wind chimes are a good idea. Horses can smell water out from a pretty long distance so unless there were serious concerns the fountain may not be necessary.
Loved the bay Arab and his best friend along with the last bay mustang. And those adorable mules!! Thank y’all for the kindness and help you have provide. So glad you have a chance for another vet helper on site as well. I am so happy with the gentlelingis going. That is how l trained my three Arabs all the way to riding many years ago. It is the way to go!!! Love your Navaho trainers.
That appeared to go really smooth for everyone, those lil donkeys just crack me up, so cute...some beautiful horses right there, partial to the Arabians, but that stallion is gorgeous as well...awesome team work...!
That mustang is gorgeous, and the little black Arabian and her saddlebred looking friend will be stunning after they put on some weight. I'm so glad the chestnut stallion got a second chance, he looks like he couldn't be like a Lusitano with that baroque face and long mane and tail. It's hard to tell when they're so thin. I hope he makes it!
One thing I did notice was the person that was leading the horses out seemed to really want to have the horses rush and run away from them once let loose. This is a bad habit that I wouldn't recommend a horse gets used to because a person can get kicked if the horse rushes away and bucks and the 1st issue rushing the horse to the pen... will create a horse that will possibly run over the handler if the handler continues to rush the horses all over the place. Rush them out of the shoot, rush them to the Pasture, chase them away from them once they are let off the halter. That handler seems to like the horses to run, which again is a bad habit for a horse to learn, to not walk quietly and calmly, to not calmly be let off the halter, to not walk calmly to where ever they WANT to go. Other then that great video, the beautiful saddlebred at the end was so beautiful as was the mustang.
That was one of the first things I taught my girl when she was a baby, and for exactly that reason. I've seen far too many horses just kick up their heels and take off as soon as they are released. It's dangerous!
Hello from Australia. I heard "lip chained". It could mean the use of a curb chain in a rough manner or one that was too tight (big lick horses?) or the use of a lead rope which has a chain section which is run through the horse's mouth. Or it could be the use of a twitch but I've only seen them made of rope and wood.
I assume by that they were refering to some kind of twitch which is wrapped around fairly tight around the upper lip, sometimes done to help keep a horse still.
Lip chains are run from the poll of the horse (over the head near the ears) down the side of the halter and into the mouth across the front of the incisors along the gum and out the other side to a lead rope. When pressure is applied the chain bites (though I'm sure people wwho use them will say just applies pressure) into the gums and compliance is achieved through pain. Think of a prong collar for dogs and you're not far off for horses in lip chains.
Enjoyed Jason being around and commenting. He watches over the horses during intake and over the years his kindness is always apparent. Great to see the other kind helpers. Miss so many that have moved on. Dr. Gena is quiet and very sweet. She loves making things better. Would like to see more of her working with the rescue's. Kimberly and John are missed and added so much to the group. Wish them well. The rescue helps many horses. I miss the old production because I felt all were family. I guess all things are impermanent. Blessings to old and new, thank you. ❤️⭐️
It was a lot easier watching today. After the rough day yesterday between you and Pony Tales, I was a wreck. I'm so happy you gave the blind chestnut stallion a reprieve, at least for now. Here's hoping he can be saved. He's such a good boy. Also, I have a real soft spot for the Arabians, as my heart horse of 27 years was an Arab, and I had two others as well. I loved the little tabby kitten in the beginning too. Such a sweetheart. I love kitties that give kisses. 💙
Could you please match up the horses with the decisions for last act of kindness? Couldn't tell which animal had the broken foot. I'd like to know also which looked bad but after evaluating got to go to quarantine. I'd like to see more of the intake and evaluation and release into quarantine 😊thanks
I'm not sure what you mean, because this is what they are showing is intake and evaluating. Jason is saying where the horses are going-to the quarantine pasture. Maybe in this episode, they don't have any horses that are going to be euthanized. I think because the staff has been cut down so much, it seems like the Vets aren't covering all the horses they are evaluating. I noticed nothing was said about the black and white either.
They’ve been trying to do “buy out debriefs” where the vets sit down and talk about each horse. Last time they even had pictures on the TV so we could see who they were talking about. I’d assume they film it whenever the vets have time to actually sit down for 1/2 an hour or more, so it might take a couple days. Just stay tuned to their channel and hopefully your patience pays off.😊
Dr Gina is the best!!! Wish saw more of her assessments too :) please if can tell us which ones will get last of kindness when doing assessment so can relate what findings are to what it means to the horses outcome
@@Lomojo31 I think that they started doing that with the debriefings. Gives them time to process and using evidence based practices to show why euthanasia was necessary. I can’t imagine how hard all their jobs are
On the Greek island of Hydra, the only wheels allowed are the garbage trucks. No cars, motorcycles, bikes, or even carts. People walk or ride horses/mules. You could lead your donkey, like this one, down to the stores and let it carry the groceries home for you.
Blind horses really need a companion horse or donkey to pal around with, don't you think? I'm sure, if she makes it through quarantine, she'll go to a good home that has a pal for her. You guys are really good at that.
Hi. I've become a fan of the daily filming, very much so. That being said, there is one thing I have an issue with, please don't take offense as you guys do things differently now. Hayley from the Navahoe ( I'm not sure how to spell that) Nation horse handler seems a little, short (not tempered, coz I've never seen her loose her temper once) something. A bit more hard handed maybe, not that I've seen her hit any of the horses, but she doesn't seem to show a gentle hand, which gets worse when she is getting frustrated. As I said, please don't take offence, and yes I was a huge fan of Coreys, which is probably where this is coming from, but when she is using the flag stick or other aids, it looks aggressive. And yes I know people do things different from one to the next. I'm just a softy. I really enjoy your content and hope to see more, and I hope you can get some more qualified workers to fill the empty spots, so none of you burn out.
Really like the daily videos! It allow everybody to see the horses, cats, dogs & everybody working! Seeing the horses allows people to spot one they might want to adopt! ❤ Plus we can see the weight gain & health improvements! Love it❤
Wow. This was such an enjoyable video! I was able to see well and hear everyone so well for the first time! (yay) Even though this intake day was sad in parts (like, I worry if the blind horse can find his own way to the water after eating hay; and I wonder if the young horse's broken hooves were done on purpose, too, as an ex-kill buyer admits to damaging horses as punishment), this video includes the happiness of seeing that these few, at least, have some positive futures in store, thanks to the work of 2 loving and capable doctors. And the gentling/training crew are doing an amazing job, too. Shine on everyone!🙂
Awesome---loved Tawney and the Kitty, lol! That was a cute story about the little black cat that stowed away, too. The tall black mare towards the end is going to be stunning, once she regains her health and weight.
Thank God for what you do. I never heard of the horse pipeline until a few years ago I would say about 8 yrs. I'm so happy that you are willing to check these horses and give them a second chance. And I'm ok with the last act of kindness. A lot of them look like they were treated very badly and I believe that their should be a required list of people who do this to horse's where you can never own another horse or live stock animal like we have in Arizona and it follows you no matter where you run to.
You might try putting a small dog collar on one of his fore pasterns and put a bell on it. The sound will bounce back at him and he should be able to learn to echo locate with it after a while
@@joannepantale483 No, I had my abbreviations mixed up. The ones I listed are for rubber roofing ... sorry about that. What I was thinking of when I wrote my comment was/is ... equine protozoal myeloencephalitis (EPM) Equine protozoal myeloencephalitis (EPM) is a serious neurological disorder. At the time, nobody knew how to treat the illness.
If you own any animal, and you care, you make sure you are well-informed with up-to-date information (not just what your grandpa said). You observe it daily to notice any changes and do the required health checks and treatments. You call in qualified people when you need to. For teeth this means a veterinarian or a horse dentist recommended by a veterinarian.
@@beverlyrobertson6796 My guess is that some of these equines had poor nutrition and were forced to eat very coarse forage or bark etc that wore down their teeth. I'm in Australia so don't know what conditions the animals came from. Now I'm going to look into the possible reasons! I never had problems with teeth either but unfortunately my horse never had the chance to live to a great age.
That's the technique I learned, but I've seen other US people just have the horse following them, and not looking at the horse, even through narrow gaps. If the horse doesn't know people or only knows bad people, what else could they do?
Tbh, I stopped watching this channel over a year ago because it seemed like euthanizing was a high choice. I feel like some times there were more options and possibly long roads. Anyway I’ve just watched a few more recent videos and they are actually doing surgery to give horses more of a chance. I may start watching them again. I love seeing them actually giving the horses a fair shot and doing all they can before euthanizing them.
Amen, it seems some things have changed for the better. Dr Lydia is good at explaining the issues & why euthanasia is recommended. Did not like when other staff stated last act of kindness with little explanation. They have made some improvements since last year, thank goodness!!
@@user-yp6zk3ew1q Right, but by following the law and getting their dealers license they made it possible to go back to the auction because legally the auction cannot prevent them from coming. That was the last I heard, that they had everything in place to go back.

All the horses and mules were absolutely precious but the last horse is gorgeous he looks like mahogany.💕🐎
Blind horses really need a companion horse or donkey to pal around with, don't you think? I'm sure, if she makes it through quarantine, she'll go to a good home that has a pal for her. You guys are really good at that.
Hard with a stallion. Would need to be another calm gelding or stallion in qaurantine.
I hope you guys will still do a buyout wrap up with the new format. It’s nice when the vets sit down and go over everything.
Yes we are doing the debriefing on Monday.
What was the decision on the white horse with the poor teeth?
Love love Honey❤❤❤
John left? 😢 so no more Kimberly and the chickens?
Just my opinion, but I think Kimberly has a illness issue and john is her significant other, and he left to care for her. Again just my opinion. ❤
I do hope Kimberly is ok. She was a favorite of mine.
Really like Lynn. Can't really say why but like how she speaks and is good to listen to.
Lynn is a wonderful person.
I love how each life is treated as being precious, just exactly how it should be.
Enjoying this type of video style too!! ❤❤❤❤
I am really enjoying the daily vids!
Oh I wish I could adopt the tabby kitten, but cannot
Even though it’s a tremendous amount of work to edit so much content so quickly it is very much appreciated to have the daily updates! Thank you!
So I really like vlog style content. But it’ll help if you keep talking and there’s less dead space audio wise
Really like the new daily video format.
I like this daily content! Yall had a hard couple of days…. Thank you for being so wonderful to these horses!! 😊❤
You guys are doing great. I am loving the daily video!
Love it❤
I really prefer these daily vlogs over the regular videos. These are way more personable and down to earth.
Great work everyone!❤
I am so loving the daily vlogs.
Awesome---loved Tawney and the Kitty, lol! That was a cute story about the little black cat that stowed away, too. The tall black mare towards the end is going to be stunning, once she regains her health and weight.
I love you guys!!! ❤❤❤
I had to QUIT PIZZA!
Thank you
It's good luck when a black cat takes up with you.
Good to know!! Barney Fife choose me/us. Sleek black cat. Just precious!! Plays with the dogs sleeps on the bed. Chases the chickens!

You might try putting a small dog collar on one of his fore pasterns and put a bell on it. The sound will bounce back at him and he should be able to learn to echo locate with it after a while
😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤
It sounds like Sapphire might have EDPM? ( I hope I have those initials in the right order? )
Do you mean Wobblers, Marcy?
@@joannepantale483 No, I had my abbreviations mixed up. The ones I listed are for rubber roofing ... sorry about that. What I was thinking of when I wrote my comment was/is ... equine protozoal myeloencephalitis (EPM) Equine protozoal myeloencephalitis (EPM) is a serious neurological disorder. (I cut & pasted that answer to get it right this time). Long story short, many years ago, our barn had several horses suffer with EPM, some of which had to be put down. It was heartbreaking. At the time, nobody knew how to treat the illness.

WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR THEIR TEETH? TO KEEP THEM GOOD?
If you own any animal, and you care, you make sure you are well-informed with up-to-date information (not just what your grandpa said). You observe it daily to notice any changes and do the required health checks and treatments. You call in qualified people when you need to. For teeth this means a veterinarian or a horse dentist recommended by a veterinarian.
@@margaretbamford7176 THANK you
@@margaretbamford7176 WE didn't have this problem.
@@margaretbamford7176 we don't have this problem.
Walk beside them, don’t pull from the front
That's the technique I learned, but I've seen other US people just have the horse following them, and not looking at the horse, even through narrow gaps. If the horse doesn't know people or only knows bad people, what else could they do?
Great work all ❤❤❤
Tbh, I stopped watching this channel over a year ago because it seemed like euthanizing was a high choice.
A "long road" for a single horse might not work out, while several other horses could've had a higher chance of survival.
I haven’t seen any auction updates? Aren’t you allowed to go back?
No, auction house banned them. So now they’re attempting to buy the horses before they reach the auction grounds with great success.😍😍
@@user-yp6zk3ew1q Right, but by following the law and getting their dealers license they made it possible to go back to the auction because legally the auction cannot prevent them from coming. That was the last I heard, that they had everything in place to go back.
I had to euthanize my 33 yr old fit, exercised tri-weekly horse for loss of control of his backend due to THO diagnosis. Went out for overnight turnout, came in unable to keep his balance or know where is rear legs were. Devastating.
😢❤️
Sad and tough😢
Hugs ❤️
Love the new format. Horse Plus Happenings
Whos the beautiful paint? Absolutely gorgeous
