You’ve no idea how much I needed to see this today. My husband and I are unable to take a vacation this year as we are dealing with his cancer diagnosis and treatment. This was a breath of fresh air and renewed our resolve. Thank you for all your work in creating such a beautiful video.
Thank you so much for this vlog with the beautiful pictures of your hiking trip. I live in Switzerland, grew up in Zurich and when we started our family we moved near Lucerne. We have been living in a small mountain village surrounded by nature and mountains for 4 years now. I can't imagine ever living in a city again. It's so quiet and beautiful here and I've started knitting again after 30 years. Sometimes a foreigner has to show us what a paradise we live in, thank you very much. 😍
Wow! I can't believe you hiked all of this! I have never been to Switzerland and am speechless as to its beauty. Your comments along the way add to the serenity of the views. Absolutely amazing scenery. I could picture myself there...but not hiking there!! Hats off to you. What an amazing adventure. Thank you for sharing it with us.
in 1956, aged 15, my mom first visited Switzerland with a group of kids from her school in middle England. They went to Lauterbrunnen, hiked, visited the Oeschinensee... This May, I was able to take her and her old schoolfriend, who had cried upon leaving, thinking she'd never see it again, back to Lauterbrunnen for a day's visit, after 68 years - they were ecstatic to be back and to find little had changed! It was a gift that gave me immense joy, too. My mom did not know back then that she would move to Switzerland in 1973, and we have been here 51 years this week (currently!)... We don't live in the Berner Oberland (we are in a small town in eastern Switzerland), but if you do choose to come back, can highly recommend almost anywhere else, which is generally quieter and has fewer tourists, plenty of nature and cultural history. I cannot think of a town or village that is not pretty or picturesque and historic anywhere in the country. Most areas are a little less dramatic though no less beautiful - the area of Appenzell and Lake Constance in the north-east with everything from low hills to high mountains and lakes, the French and German speaking mountain villages of the Valais in the south, or the dramatic valleys of the Italian-speaking Ticino, the gentle rolling hills of the Jura in the west, the amazing natural parks of the high east and so on. There is much to discover! I remain grateful to my parents for bringing me here as a child and for the life and family I have here and that I can enjoy all Switzerland has to offer on a daily basis, it's always stunning and we always appreciate it, it's made me proud to have become Swiss. Not least, thankyou for a delightful journal of your hiking trip, wow, you did so well tackling all those mountain tracks. I'm so sorry you were ill and had to pull through so hard. We did have a very wet and cool early summer - but it's 30-35°C just now, which feels simply too hot :o I for my part have been enjoying our sailing trips from the Netherlands to Fyn and Aerø the last few years, and we'll be heading north again soon for a few weeks - maybe Romø/Fanø this year, or remaining around the Netherlands/Belgium, depending on wind and weather!! Let's exchange cultures for a while... :)
How fortunate you are to call Switzerland your home, and it’s lovely that you appreciate it so much❣️ Thanks so much for your excellent tips! I will come to your comment if and when we go again 😍🙏🏻❤️
Oh wow Helle 💪🏻 That was epic! So amazingly picturesque, I’m glad you shared this video because I can’t imagine myself hiking like that😂😂🤭 what a memorable experience, thanks for sharing, Karen 🥰 oh and those cows 🐄❤
This was wonderful to watch, what a magical trip. You also took me back to 1966! Yes, that's how long ago it was when I visited the very same area of Switzerland with my parents. I was 8 years of age. Except for the last two places that you went to, I had had been to all of the little towns. We stayed in Interlaken but took day trips to Meiringen, Wengen, Grindelwald, Lauterbrunen, Kandersteg and Spiez. As you arrived at each one, I was thinking to myself, 'I've been there!' Really special for me. We also took a tiny train to the highest point it went to on the Jungfrau. Spectacular views everywhere. Thank you for taking the time to film and share your holiday. So sorry that you caught covid.
Hele. Thank you for sharing your adventures. My husband and I loved it. Boy that was quite a trek for you. You’re in great shape. Love these videos as much as I love the knitting. Keep sharing all of it. Patricia from California
Absolutely gorgeous scenery in the mountains! I especially love the waterfalls. My husband says wanting to stay longer or revisit a place is the hallmark of a great vacation! My teen would absolutely revolt if we had a hiking vacation. 😀 That bus ride down the mountain would make me so nervous! A shot in Zurich reminded me of Beverly Hills....maybe it was inspired by Zurich. Thank you for sharing!
Thanking you for sharing your trip, the alps are such a special place. But also I feel your fear, those steep sided paths, treacherous bridges and cable cars!!
I’m not sure how I missed this upload but I’m so glad I went back and checked! Looks like you had a wonderful trip-oh how I enjoy viewing these places through your perspective.
Thank you so much for doing this. Switzerland is beautiful beyond words, a real bucket list trip for me, and I enjoyed every minute of your travels. With everything going on in the world and here in the US, this video is a balm for the soul. ❤
I LOVE it! Thank you for sharing such a beautiful adventure with us. You are brilliant at telling the story so it feels magical and calm. Thank you, again ❤
Thank you much for sharing your trip.. This remains one of my dreams (not the climbing and all the walking) just viewing..! It is so beautiful!! What an amazing trip.
Thank you so much for this beautiful and calming video. I adore how you impart and share. The primitive hotel seemed so charming. The little touches were just so pleasing to view. The hikes were something! So glad you are a healthy natured person so you could fight Covid whilst doing “extreme” hiking. How hard to have had this … then. Just a wonderful time today. Thank you so much. Hope you are recovering from the Virus.
This is so wonderful in many ways. We have not been able to travel for many years (it’s very expensive) so it’s videos like this that make me marvel at beautiful countryside that I only hope to see one day for real. As I knit, I’m transported to the Swiss Alps through your words and travels. Thank you. 🙏 (that hostel looked FABULOUS!!!)
Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful journey, my dream has always been to visit Switzerland . I have had the privilege of loving 6 Bernese Mountain Dogs over the years, which made my desire to visit even stronger, especially Bern. I so enjoyed every second of your trip, you have a beautiful family !
Lovely trip! Such majestic views and hiking seems to be the best way to immerse yourself in nature. I really appreciate the time and effort you spent to share your trip.
Oooh- I love this! So inspiring! I love hiking and tried a little winter hiking once in the Swiss Alps. The snow got too deep so we also abandoned our plan and grabbed a bus back after (literally) stumbling down the mountain into a small town where thankfully we saw a bus stop! Adventures are always fun and I always learn something and come back changed.
Stunning! Thank you for sharing your amazing journey. I had intended to sit and knit while watching your video but found my eyes riveted to the screen. Simply gorgeous scenery and so well written. You have such a soothing voice. We will never be able to take such a trip so especially appreciate seeing the glacier gorge and fantastic views from high up the mountain. And the food. And the hotels. And the animals. And and and! 😊❤
Thank you for sharing. Truly amazing and beautiful. I will be visiting Switzerland next year perhaps if it fits into our time plan. My husband (who sadly died 9 months ago) has a sister who lives in Zurich, I hope to catch up with her. My travels will be with my son and DIL.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching your video! I will never get a chance to go hiking in Switzerland so I appreciate. seeing everything through your eyes. What a beautiful place! You have reminded me to try to re-read The Magic Mountain again. I enjoyed it the first time I read it. I can now picture things even better thanks to your video! Such a bummer that you and your husband got covid. I hope you are all better now! Good to see a video from you!
Helle magic magic we visited Interlaken and it was lovely to see the walks you did similar to ones we did I’m going to show my husband this lovely film thankyou so much you are one special person
Oh, Helle, thank you so very much for this video. When we first moved to Europe in 1969, we spent 1 year in Geneva, where my father was working. We took many weekend trips to the same places you showed us. In Grindelwald, my father surprised me with the gray and white woven poncho that I had admired in a small shop ( I was 11 years old!) and the following July, 1970, we drove through the Sustenpass, and got out of the car to play in the snow in shorts and T-shirts! Each trip was a "mystery" and my brothers and I learned to read maps, calculate kilometres and time while trying to be the first to guess our destination for the night. These are memories I will forever cherish, and you brought them back so vividly for me. Kindest regards, Kim
Thank you for sharing your hiking trip with us. What a wonderful video!! I didnt want it to end. Absolutely breathtaking views and sounds. I am afraid of heights and had to catch my breath a few times. Waiting outside for 20 min for your family with no reception or any way to contact them would have had me worrying. All those miles of walking was so impressive. I hope you are on the mend.
Helle, what a wonderful video. I am from switzerland myself and go on holyday every year near Meiringen. I have hiked to Reichenbachfalls and Rosaulauischlucht several times. It is so interesting and inspiring to see the alps through your eyes. I admire your positiviy, seeing natures beauty even in bad weather conditions and beeing sick. I hope you recovered well. Greetings from Switzerland to you and your family
Many thanks for sharing your travels. I'm not afraid of heights however some of those views made me gasp. Congratulations on breaking through so many challenges. I have hiked and snowshoed a few times in the Canadian Rockies near Banff and it is truly amazing. More tourists though. Take care.
So gorgeous and what a challenge. Our family went to many of the same places, hiking, riding trains and troti bikes, seeing the cows, fog rising suddenly up the mountain, artistic stacks of firewood, flowers, surprise playgrounds in the woods and the pastries! So beautiful. Thank you for sharing your journey and bringing back memories. I understand your anxiety with the waterfall hike - our son who was 17 at the time had a similar difficult time in Trammelbach Falls.
So very beautiful ! Thank you for sharing, your video brought back memories of going to Spiez, Grindelwald and Interlaken on a school trip many years ago. The scenery you shared is absolutely spectacular ! I hope you and your partner have recovered now.
So glad you took the time to vlog your vacation. I shared it with my husband and son to show them how beautiful the Swiss Alps and villages are. Visited some of those villages in 1988.
Thank you for sharing. I spent a week in Switzerland in 1984, visiting some of the same places. It really hasn't changed that much - so beautiful. I had forgotten the sounds of the cow bells! It really brought back some beautiful memories.
What a treat to watch this and feel like I was there. Thank you for creating this beautiful piece and sharing it with us. I just got over my first case of Covid so had a feeling that’s what you were going to say. Hope you are feeling much better!
Such a beautiful trip and so nice of you to share your experience…please please pass along my gratitude to your partner and daughter for allowing me to see such breathtaking views 😃👏🏼🥰👏🏼❤️🗻⛰️🥾🚶🏼♀️
Hi Helle, your video popped up on my feed and I started watching it. I do live in the area between Kandersteg and Adelboden and I love to hike, although only shorter hikes together with my dog. It always touches me when I hear how other people experience the magic of the alps and you did such an amazing job. Greetings from Switzerland to Denmark!
That was amazing! You are so brave- I don't know if I could have done that kind of hike especially with the heights. Thank you for filming this is was so fun to come along with you. Kim
That was such an interesting video in a place I'd love to go hiking in. I went there in 1990 for part of my embroidery degree, but for the most part, we were looking at factories making fabrics. This looks like a really wonderful trip. Thank you for sharing it here.♡
WOW we stayed in Wengen 3 years ago and travelled all over Switzerland on the train and cable cars. We went to the highest point and went to the James Bond Restaurant by cable car. I love Switzerland as well as Canada and Norway. Such beautiful scenery. We are going to Norway again in 2 weeks time on a cruise.
beautiful video! loved seeing how you experienced the hikes and villages - they are basically at my door step and i have done most of them taking day trips. doing them one after the other is quite a challenge - congrats! 🇨🇭
Thank you for sharing and yes, a visit minus some of the hiking....Our 4 sons had an elementary teacher (in the US) whose family name was Reichenbach so I'll have fun sharing the Fall with them.
Absolutely stunning and thank you for sharing. Sorry that I couldn't make it to Denmark in April, hopefully in 2025. Perhaps you and your family have recovered by now, I hope so. I sincerely appreciate that you have shared part of your vacation and I still enjoy your knitting episodes. I think you live life like Art. So many layers of so many modalities and so much expression. It was good to see you and see the world through your experiences. Thank you !
This week’s devastating wildfires in Jasper, Alberta got my husband and I talking about if we would like living with the mountains looming above all the time. I feel like it might be a like claustrophobic for me and even seeing your video of those cliffs and steep drops made me gasp. Congratulations on continuing as far as you did. This was an excellent video. Thank you for sharing.
Beautiful episode and such a surprise to see my home town (Zurich) in it 😉 You made me want to discover the places you have been hiking through... only that I share the same fears! That hike up the Gletscherschlucht would cost me some willpower... and there's no way I could have taken that bus on this steep and curvy road😲 Nevertheless it makes me happy you all enjoyed your holiday. Thank you for the gift to see my country through the eyes of appreciative visitors. I think now that you mentioned it several times, I might give a second attempt on reading Thomas Mann "The Magic Mountain" a book I always wanted to read but felt having to climb a huge mountain...😄🙏😘
Thank you so much! And you live in Zürich - how lovely❣️ I am glad if I did your country justice; it is just stunning. As to The Magic Maountain, I do recall that it was like scaling a mountain 😅 lots of patience required, but so interesting ☺️❤️
"Up is muscle, down is pain" - I don't think I've ever agreed with something more in my life 😂 Thank you so much for taking us on this journey with you. I'm so sorry it was interrupted by sickness - Covid or otherwise 💕
Your video took me to a holiday with my parents in Grindelwald 40 years ago. I can remember The names of the towns you mentioned. Your pictures inspire me to visit this region in the near future. Is the Grindelwald glacier still there? Mange tak, Helle. Hilsen fra Heiligenhafen
I love your travel videos, especially those big pieces of cake! You hike the way I would. I’m deathly deathly afraid of heights. I played basketball for many years, and my knees are not the greatest. I’d love to find out if there’s a recommended hiking, that would be more beginners/knee friendly that you could recommend.
The travel/adventure company that we booked with rate their hikes in terms of height and difficulty, and this is a 3-4. You can find that information on their website (Bering Travel). Although it’s in Danish, you can check the ratings. Eg hiking in the Italian Dolomites or in Scotland is more 2-3 (and thus more knee-friendly) and are also on my radar ☺️
Fantastisk tur, I har været på - sikke en natur. En fornøjelse at følge jer. Jeg får lyst til at prøve en lignende vandretur, omend højderne vil udfordre mig (højdeskræk).... Tak for denne gang og på gensyn 😊
You’ve no idea how much I needed to see this today. My husband and I are unable to take a vacation this year as we are dealing with his cancer diagnosis and treatment. This was a breath of fresh air and renewed our resolve. Thank you for all your work in creating such a beautiful video.
Oh I am so glad ❤️I send you my warmest wishes for health and recovery 🥰

I am, thanks. Hope you are too 🥰
Glorious!
Such a beautiful trip and so nice of you to share your experience…please please pass along my gratitude to your partner and daughter for allowing me to see such breathtaking views 😃👏🏼🥰👏🏼❤️🗻⛰️🥾🚶🏼♀️
🙏🏻💙😘
Hi Helle, your video popped up on my feed and I started watching it. I do live in the area between Kandersteg and Adelboden and I love to hike, although only shorter hikes together with my dog. It always touches me when I hear how other people experience the magic of the alps and you did such an amazing job. Greetings from Switzerland to Denmark!
Oh phew, so glad to have done it justice. We absolutely loved it 💖
@@danishmusings 👍😄
That was amazing! You are so brave- I don't know if I could have done that kind of hike especially with the heights. Thank you for filming this is was so fun to come along with you. Kim
Thanks so much, Kim 🥰🙏🏻
Oh excellent! 👌 I love those landscapes, too ❤️
beautiful video! loved seeing how you experienced the hikes and villages - they are basically at my door step and i have done most of them taking day trips. doing them one after the other is quite a challenge - congrats! 🇨🇭
Wow - you are a fortunate human being. Thanks for watching 💕
Thank you for the vicarious dream trip! I'm sorry you ended up unwell; I hope you've recovered and can reflect on your amazing trip!
lovely
thank you.
Thank you !
Aw thank you for your lovely words, Marcus, they are truly appreciated 🙏🏻🥰 Do let me know if and when you go to Denmark. Much love to you ❤️
Beautiful. Today is the Swiss national day 🙂
Oh, wishing you a happy national day then ❤️🤍
This week’s devastating wildfires in Jasper, Alberta got my husband and I talking about if we would like living with the mountains looming above all the time. I feel like it might be a like claustrophobic for me and even seeing your video of those cliffs and steep drops made me gasp. Congratulations on continuing as far as you did. This was an excellent video. Thank you for sharing.
True; sending many thoughts to the affected areas - and to you 💞
Wowww , merci de partager ce trekking j’ai adoré! Tout était beau, j’espère le faire moi aussi ❤
Merci beaucoup - j’espère aussi ☺️🩷
Thank you we were thinking of visiting, tho not hiking , to Switzerland . I think this has convinced me xxx
stunning
Bonjour,
I hope you and your family are feeling better. It was a very nice trip you took.
Merci de nous avoir fait voyager avec vous 😀🤗
Merci à vous ❤️
Beautiful episode and such a surprise to see my home town (Zurich) in it 😉 You made me want to discover the places you have been hiking through... only that I share the same fears! That hike up the Gletscherschlucht would cost me some willpower... and there's no way I could have taken that bus on this steep and curvy road😲
Nevertheless it makes me happy you all enjoyed your holiday.
Thanks so much, Gwen 😅😍
I would be right at home in the fog. I have lived my entire life in a small fishing village in Nova Scotia 🇨🇦 Summer mornings are greeted with fog ❤
Lovely. I can definitely recommend going again. I wonder if it’s the same gorge as the one I went to? It will definitely still be there 🥰
I love your travel videos, especially those big pieces of cake!
Eg hiking in the Italian Dolomites or in Scotland is more 2-3 (and thus more knee-friendly) and are also on my radar ☺️
the footage in this video was stunning ~ thank you for sharing!
Tusind tak for turen. Smukt og afslappende at være med her fra sofaen 😉
Tak for at dele.
