THE BOX ON THE FLOOR IS TWO CAPACITORS WHICH INITIATE STARTING.
FOR THE MOMENT A DRILL RUN WILL HAVE TO DO UNTIL I RESTORE IT AND HAVE IT REWOUND IN THREE PHASE.

Not even close to full rpm, when these things are at full speed it produces a D♭4 extremely loudly. So no, he wouldn't be arrested or punished for doing this, because the surrounding area would know it isn't real based on the pitch of the siren.
What rpm does a motor like that typically run at? Or what was the rpm of the drill you used?

That's cool. I noticed that all of these British sirens that were produced from the pre-ww2 era to the 1970s and beyond are almost identical in design and sound. Where did you get this one?
Not even close to the sound it will make when restored. At full tilt it gives terminal goosebumps.

Asynchronous motor may run with one Live ( phase), and capacitors mays starting run the rotor, but not powerfully than 3 phase electric socket.
I believe these motors are maid for working normally with 400 Volts 3 phase system.

Seeing as here in Norfolk, they plan to get rid of the flood sirens (and they haven't done the annual test this year, which is now overdue) and if I had the money, I'd love to have one- even if they have to strip the insides out of it... just as a conversation-piece of its past (and the days where they used to scare the shit out of me as a kid)

I can't imagine why it would have been made with a single phase (even if it's split phase) motor, especially as recently as 1976. Wonder why they didn't just go with 3 ph. From the beginning

@82Nikkis in holland we call it: the emergency alarm, it's mainly for if/when we get attacked/bombed or when the sea comes rushing in (seeing we are lower then sea-level, and next to sea at once, when things break, shit is happening)...

Why sparks came from the socket attach to the electric drill on the floor ? was the motor from the siren was backfeeding elect ? at one point i seen flames
What you need to do is paint the red propellor or Rotor or whatever it's called, Black, and with yellow lines angled slightly inward so that when it's spinning, it makes a spiral inward looking effect, like the nose cones of German BF-109 aircrafts. :D

I have an ACA Howler that I love to do the same thing with. It also runs on three-phase but I don't have the resources to buy a phase converter at the moment. Drill wind-ups are fun, but earplugs are highly reccommended.

Too bad thats not the same case in the USA where three phase isn't so prevalent. Replacing those caps should work though if you want to run it on single phase, there is a 95% chance that is the problem. Great siren!
