Water drop is at 1:37! A huge thanks once again to Conair, the Victoria Airport Authority, BC Aviation Museum, and Victoria Airport ATC for making this happen!
How did I miss this one, I love the Convair aircraft and haven't seen one flying in my area for ever so I'm super glad that you got some of the best video Iv ever seen, very sad it is being retired but so glad you got video of it. HUGE THUMBS UP my friend 👍😎
Perfect timing for this to show up in my video line up! Right after the Hawaii Mars final flight. I couldn’t help but think the Hawaii Mars is coming home and bringing her offspring with her!🥲💕 PS…the quality of this video is absolutely AMAZING!😮
It is really an optical illusion seeing this particular aircraft coming at you in this video, as it looks like a twin engine 377 Stratocruiser. The "Strat" had a pulsing white light on the nose and a double-bubble fuselage.
While it would have been nice to see this tanker fly for longer, the fleet of Convair 580s were definitely at the end of their flying careers. The stress put on these airframes from 20 years of aerial firefighting meant they were soon to be no longer airworthy.
what an incredible aircraft....I flew one of her sister craft many years ago. I understand the economics of the decision to retire her, but it still hurts my heart to see her parked.....never to fly again.......a wonderful workhorse sent to pasture......
Yeah, I am surprised Conair did not keep a couple 580s in their fleet for next year as back up. The reality is that these airframes have flown since the 1950s, operating costs are increasing due to lack of availability of parts, etc...
Great that it'll be preserved but sad in a way that it flew in as an airworthy aircraft and will presumably now stand outside and deteriorate to the point that it'll never be able to fly again.

Awesome shots of the water drop, now that's the way to retire an aircraft. Great footage!
Thank you! Yeah, it was great to see it putting on a show for its final flight.
It was the pilot’s retirement flight as well, “Whisky” trained me and a generation of Tanker pilots to fly the Convair 580. Great man, great aviator.
Thank you for sharing this epic flight of a beautiful Convair that so richly deserves commemoration!
You're welcome, thank you!
Wow thank you for your service working in McGrath all these years a job well done injoy your retirement. Amen ❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊outstanding video
What a retirement flight!!!
Pretty good Caribou impression coming down the runway for that drop.
Boy, he had to really push that nose over on that last drop as the water was coming out. So, so cool!!

Thanks, glad you enjoyed. This was probably the most fun I've had filming!

I loved flying that bird while in the US navy
Lovely Film, thanks from YVR, Bas.
Thank you!
Hopefully the museum gets a new hangar built for Hawaii Mars and the others very soon.
Excelent aircraft.

Awesome video of an extraordinary event. Great work.
Thank you!
Doug is a family friend of mine and it's amazing how they got a legendary tanker of the Okanogan
This aircraft looked like it was in pristine condition! Sad to see it grounded. Would like to have seen the inside of the cockpit. Nice video.

Beautiful as always 🙂
Thank you.
Great video Tobyn!
Thanks!
Amazing catch!! Thumbs up 👍
Thanks!
Una pena pero llego la hora del descanso para el Tanker 55 matricula C-FHKF
Wow thank you for this video

Very cool.
I see it land @ Ontario Ca every weekday around 6:30 pm and leaving next day to Tijuana BC around 7:30am!
Excelente
That's a big loss . We need all the water droppers we can keep in the air the way the world is going.

Yeah, unfortunately it won't fly again. However this 580 will hopefully be kept in good shape. At the moment the engines are still functional.
Quite possibly one of the riskiest airplanes to use for firefighting
The Lynyrd Skynryrd killer plane
Are they birds or work horses? 😝
