Hi I love learning more about detailing . I too am in the PG area . I been doing this work for 6 years . I am definitely not changing enough . I am too busy and turn down work . The hardest part is pricing for me . I am to nice at the same time the boats are always like new .
Always a very good question, depends on the condition really. But generally I’ll use use a metal polish with some 0000 grit steel wool, then finish it off with a foam pad on my mini polished. Comes out mint!
Great video my man. Hey we’re about to take on some boats at boat dealership In-N-Out area. We have a wash bus but do some ceramic coatings and paint correction for cars. My question is what exactly is gel coating a boat? Is that like what a ceramic is to a car? Thanks Reggie Raleigh Nc
Thanks for the question man. Gelcoat is a material sprayed over the fiberglass on a boat and is usually 5-8mm thick. It’s essentially the protection for the boat. Over time the gelcoat substance itself breaks down if it’s not properly taken care of and impacts the boats look and quality. Ceramic can be applied on top of the gelcoat for maximum protection and care. You can think of gelcoat as the “paint” for a boat, but much thicker.
Very similar to the steps, gelcoat is easier to work with because it’s a harder surface and doesn’t scratch as easy as car paint….but yeah, buff/polish/seal
Yeah, man, so restoring gelcoat is a very particular process, I came out with a course that teaches you exactly which machines to use, how to use them, what types of pads, compound ceramics and sealants. It literally goes over every single step that you need to know. rvpassiveincome.thinkific.com/courses/how-to-detail
I don't have all the great machinery and knowledge you have but I'm about to do my first detail on a boat. Is a fine grade clay bar good for oxidation? And also I'm charging $10 per foot so $250 for the cleaning, leather condition and graphene spray coating $245 And full iron remover decontamination and clay bar for $90 which totals up to $585 for single engine 25 foot fishing boat believe 1 step boat. What do you think about my price PLEASE?
@@Swflmarinedetail decontamination and clay bar should be done first before cutting and polishing from every professional detailer I've seen. But I don't know much. So for my 2nd question is that price decent? Boat isn't crazy dirty.
@@gabrielconn1886 I charge around $100/ft for a 3 step restoration inside and out including sealant. Not sure all exactly what you have to do. Sounds like you’re doing more of a wash.
@@Swflmarinedetail yes I'm more doing a wash and decon the paint then instead of going in full polish just adding a coating I know it's like I'm missing a step but I don't have machine yet for polish. Will inform customer of course to let them know it's not a scratch removal or it's not going to be perfect because it will need a polish. However if he is ok with the condition of the paint after a decon and clean up then can go into a coating. Soon I will have pads and rotery for the deep corrections.

hi, I need some tips to work on a 20ft boat. I been doing cars and suv paint correction and ceramic for years. This will be my first boat !

So I’ve done interior but I’ve had a customer ask me to restore gel coat etc, where do I start?? lol

Meh no not really. The machines are definitely needed to do it properly, as well as a good grasp of the steps needed.

I'm doing a wash decontamination of all paint surfaces clay bar to remove light oxidation and a 6 months to 1 year graphene protectant coating.
