Love your evaluation based on usage. No camera is perfect for every situation, personal taste, and budget. I had the Z9 and sold it and purchased the SL3 after falling in love with the M11-p. Menu simplicity and optical design of the Leica lens is second to none. The Z9 has a lot of features and that is both a pro and a con and more of a con for a non professional who doesn't use it a lot. BUT the leica cameras have a design elegance and simplicity that is what I appreciate.

Absolutely agree! I do this professionally and when I go to grab the Z9 after using my SL3 it’s a noticeable weight difference in itself! I find myself gravitating to my Leica more and more! Keep shooting and enjoy your day!

I have had my SL3 since day 1. I love it. i have found on the face, when you select the person to track it will stay on them. I have not experienced the issue some did with the loss images. I upgraded the firmware to keep the camera updated.

Hi Stephen. I got my SL3 on launch day too. Can you describe how you are getting tracking to work with accuracy? I tried unsuccessfully at several stages of the Tour de France in July. Thanks!

@@mjcatto Tour de France would be an interesting challenge. Generally i would be set up with shutter priority for this. 1/1000th, Auto iso, Afc 4 frames a second.I would look at the face/eye and even the animal(beta) The animal(beta) may hit 1 person faster since not enough time to watch onscreen and then hit the person you want to track. i have never been to the Tour de France only watched on tv. Being that they come by so fast with limited from 1st to last. I would try to be pre-focused so when they hit the spot much faster for it to track. I photographed the pro challenge in Denver with my M. during the final phase they did multiple laps before the final sprint. I was in my spot for the final corner and would just be pre focused .

I enjoy your videos Joe. I use both the SL3 and Q3 for travel and landscapes. Hoping to get more accuracy from the phase detect for moving subjects. Maybe a firmware update soon I hope! Thanks…

Yes!! My SL3 is a bit slow on hitting the mark for focusing. I love it for what it can do and My Nikon Z9 is much more accurate for quick focus and locking on. Let's hope for a firmware improvement! Thank you for commenting!

Love your honesty and how you said one camera does not always work for every job. Love all your shots.

Thanks for the great video and honest assessment. In order to afford my own SL3, for which I've been waiting on order since March, I am going to trade in my Canon 1DX Mark III. To be sure, the only sports I shoot are my grandkids, who don't move all that fast. Nevertheless, I'm keeping my Canon 7D Mark II just in case. I noticed a couple of references below to firmware as a way that Leica might address face detect and AF tracking. Do you think this is something that can be fixed in firmware or is this really the result of a design choice that Leica made in order to go with the 60MP sensor?

It sounds like you have a great plan! If I remember correctly, the firmware update for the SL2 and it did speed up the focusing so hopefully this will work for the new camera. They brought out one firmware update. I believe that fixed the losing images if you remove the battery while the camera was on. I never had any issues! When is your camera supposed to be in? Did they give you any kind of date? And thank you for watching the video!

@@TheJalbertstudios My Twin Cities local camera store couldn't give me a date. Meantime, there are no SL3's currently available from B&H, Adorama or Amazon.

Just my opinion but the colours on the normal video you have here look great, but the colour on all the sl3 images look really quite bad, now I don’t know what it is, whether it’s the colour from the camera or the colour grading but I’ve watched quite a few videos on the sl3 and I have to say I’m not a fan of rh😂 colour. However you and others who have used the camera say they really like rh😂 colour, I guess it’s personal choice I’ll try and download some samples especially for skin tone and see if I can make them work.

I will have to check into that! I can send you some files and you can see what I am talking about. I am not sure about the video. It could be the way it’s processed in there. I’m not sure, but the colors are very true to life they’re not Gotti or oversaturated, but a lot of people like that look and if that’s something you like then know this camera would not be good for you
