I’m a Media Production Company Owner. Thanks for the advice, much appreciated!
This is such a great tip. For the last few months I've been displaying myself as a Video Production Company instead of Videographer, and people have taken me way more seriously 👍
I’m an Ad Guy…. Period…. I’m not a filmmaker, I’m not a videographer, I’m not a photographer…. I produce advertising…. Period. Once I was able to get my clients to understand what I actually DID, dealing with my clients became an instant breeze. In fact, the fact that they now knew what I did, helped them tell me more about what their vision was, and helped me serve them better.
By the way Saj - Thank you for your videos... 6 months ago, I was about to walk away from this work completely and throw in the towel and then a friend of mine told me to watch your videos and I'll have my mind changed. Thank You! You changed my mind. (Folks - listen to this guy... seriously... learn something...)
I didn’t even know I was struggling with this until this video, thank you for sharing this! Really helpful! 🔥
This is unvaluable content. Thank you !
This has been so helpful, thank you for the insight!
(Watched to the end, subscribed) Very clean, quality video and good info. Thank you sir! I agree it makes sense. I wish I was making $500 a day! That sounds great 😌
Thanks man, really good advice here.
Amazing advice!
Excellent. I’ve been calling myself a cinematographer
This is very insightful.
Title going forward: Video production company owner.
Love the content as always! Even if I am a one man band, should I still go about this? And what is the title to roll with “Video production company owner?”
Yea I would. Unless you just want to work as a freelancer for other production companies. In that case, you can use a specific title you want to be hired for like DP. Your title in your own business should be director or producer even if you still shoot your own project. Every one man band is director producer and DP
Good video. But what if I am a "one man band" right now. When I get a project, I some times come with the concept, other times I execute the client's idea but inputting my own ideas too, I sometimes do some mood boards and storyboards (when it is necessary), shoot the videos (with lights) record the audio, and then do the whole post production (edit, color grade, graphics, etc). And if the client has a digital marketing budget o can make a plan for their paid ads using the final video and other versions. I couldn't call myself a Product Company since not only I'm not a company (though I use a brand that is not my name) and don't normally hire freelancers (though I would like to if I get bigger jobs). Do you think I should call myself a Video Producer? An Audiovisual Producer?
Great video
(Starting video starting to listen title caught my attention) Interesting tell me more…
If you see this what if you are solo. Do not normally work for others. Do not like working for clients who ask for a gazillion changes. What if you only want to make art with your heart. And yes it is posted on Social Media. And yes it involves video. What am I then? A videostory teller? I sure as heck can't call myself an influencer.
Content Creator - It fits a wide variety of lanes in this business, but after listening to you, I may change it. It's a side thing for me as a creative outlet from the corporate world. I really appreciate your channel and your content. Have you experienced any ageism, clients who think that you can't produce "today's viral inspired style of spots"? If so how do you overcome that?
I rely on younger creators sometimes to help me out and hire them out as freelancers. I’ve had to do that from time to time when I felt like I didn’t understand they tiktok generation
Ok THANK U SM but I need advice on details. How would I go about writing contracts for freelancers i contract out?
Great content as always! I’m the owner of my business and I do videos from scratch to the end. I can call myself FILMMAKER even if I am a sole trade?
I don’t like using the word filmmaker unless I’m working on narrative or documentary work. I call my self director or producer and owner of my production company
❤
What do you call yourself?
Video producer, but I'm not out on my own, yet. It's the title that encapsulates all the things I do, and it should equate to a higher salary, but my employer doesn't see it that way.
Filmmaker
Wideo guy.
Producteur audiovisuel. I'm from belgium, and it littraly translates to "audiovisual producer" I do video and graphic animation for video for clients. Planning, shooting, directing, sound, post production and graphic animation. It fits a lot more what I do now :D I dod call myself a videographer in the beginning as well though haha
Just a global response to this, "Filmmaker" is tricky as there is no such job on a call sheet as a Filmmaker, only: director, cinematographer/DP, camera operator, or producer.....most people coming from the UA-cam, content creators, videographer camp say Filmmaker but really it's more like videographer to cinematographer with without producer knowledge they adopt by dealing with clients...I don't think it matters too much what you call yourself if you stay in the content creator realm but if you merge to the actual commercial industry, like agency level commercials which are produced with similar tactics as feature films, then it matters...you gotta brand yourself and be a specialist, the industry is built upon specialists, maybe you're a Director/DP which is becoming more common....but the nice thing about the videography world is you can be a generalist and wear many hats and largely work solo which is great since most artists are introverts
