Powered Frog With A Ground Throw
Вставка

- Continuing with the methods of powering our turnouts, we will be covering the Caboose Industries 220S ground throw. This ground throw has a set of contacts where it can route power to the frog from the appropriate rail.
This simple ground throw, with just a few small parts, was difficult to assemble. Not because of being complex, but because of the tiny size of the parts.
More Assembly Instructions.

Thanks Tom. Great video and references in the notes. Man, those tiny parts are hard for old eyes and fingers to deal with but I did it after watching your video. Keep up the great work.
Glad to help ☺️
Glad to see you got it assembled, Tom! Now you know why I recommended sweeping the floor before you start!
Thank you. Luckily, nothing hit the floor. This Time! lol
I enjoyed watching. I'm a dummy in this area but learning slowly. Thanks . Brian
Glad you enjoyed it Brian.
Thank you for the information Tom, I'll be doing plenty of these where possible, just to cut down on 🐢 machines. I have way more switches than I want to power so this is a great alternative. Stay safe
Glad to help Ken. I also have too many switch machines.
good job looked a bit tedious but you got er done Tom...thx 4 sharing.. vinny
Thanks Vinny 👍 A lot of work for that little thing. lol
Very nice video tutorial excellent job 🚂
Many thanks
I’m liking this series Tom! Although all this talk of electrifying frogs is making me hungry.
How about some frog legs? What happens to the rest of the frog when ppl only eat the legs???
Toms Trains and Things They’re added to model railroads apparently.
Very interesting... i dont think ill be doing manual ground throws but this is good info to know.
Had to put in some ground throws. Already have about 20 Tortoises, Torti? Switch machines. lol
Hi Tom. I have the same ground throws and using on DC. Do i need a frog juicer? Or do I need to add wires to frog wire from the pos n neg rails beyond the isolated part of the frog? Thanks again for the full build, will help me get mine made. All the best. Brian @ The Angels
The lead from the frog goes to the center terminal of the ground throw.
@@TomsTrainsandThings thanks kindly. I thought so, wasn't sure because of your DCC set up. Much appreciated Tom. I've learned quite a bit from you so far.
Do you know what the little plastic connectors at the end of just plug lighting is called? Keep up the great videos.
JST connectors
I see the wiring up of the ground throw but at no time do I see you attaching any wires to the turnout. I'm totally lost.
Towards the end I explain the center post goes to the frog wire, the outer two is determined how the turnout is trrown and isd connected to the feed wires for the rails. You have to check which direction is the correct way with a meter or via the tester I showed in the video.
Great how to do it and i'm scared to wire my turnouts and the tortoise
Thanks Dwight. A little practice and you'll be a pro in no time.
A drawing is worth a thousand words. Thanks Tom this video was better than the stupid instructions from this product.
Glad I could help Joel.
Why not use a powered frog?
I use powered frogs when I have them. The last 3 videos was about taking insulated frogs and converting them to powered frogs. I had several turnouts I removed from the layout years ago that I want to reuse.
