She had cancer and eventually died of it, after being diagnosed her man left her and so she committed to traveling the world touring her music and deeply regretted it bc she felt she didn't live life enough and that her music would not or did not touch enough people. If I were to apply this song to my life, it would be me talking to the past. It would be me asking it to “Stay with me” and locking the door would be a metaphor of trying to keep and recreate the past. Which I’ve tried doing a lot.
