You should've tested those magnets on something else too like a refrigerator cuz modern cars are mostly aluminum and alloys so it could've been your hood as well...
I'm surprised you didn't do a battery duration test. Probably not something you usually do on lights but since you're comparing the two I'd be interested to see if the keychain light is really half the duration given it's half the capacity of the cube.
I am making a reivew and have tested 20 of the carabiner ones in a battery duration test - results vary significantly. like 2 to 3 times from highest to lowest
to me, waterproof mean that no water what so ever can seep through, while water-resistant means that it can withstand water to a certain point. also if you really wanna review lights you can get a Lux meter
Oh, I am mid editing a review on these, I have purchased 30 of those carabiner ones from 5 different sellers and have been using them for 4 months now. 1. They have a HUGE initial drop off in the first 3 minutes 2. Battery life varies, DRASTICALLY 3. At $2 they are pretty darn great 4. All of the ones I got had good working magnets
Bought a box of 25 pinkie sized lights at Goodwill for $25 for stocking staffers a few months ago. Turns out they're around $50 apiece. They're "tactical" lights designed to clip onto guns, and OMG they're bright. Told my mom I won't complain when she wants to go again.
Your Ford Fusion hybrid (~2017?) has an aluminum hood with some steel inner parts and steel latch. The magnets were trying their best to stick to some steel through the aluminum. A battery test would be nice too. Love your videos!
It's unlikely I would purchase either one but if I had to pick one it would be the keychain light. I use a cross body purse most of the time and having a small light attached to it is convenient so I don't have to be distracted looking inside my bag for a light. I think it would be a pain remembering to keep it charged for when you might need it.
4:49 Lumens are not watts, it is light output at certain distance. You have to look at the details to see at what distance they achieve the lumens they claim. 300 lumens could be at 30 cm or 1 meter or 3 mm. Does North America have a set Lumens standard? Lumens is not metric but we should have been taught lumens in grade school as it measures light output better than the watts of a incandescent light. I am a photographer, I understand lumens and kelvin ... We have fallen into a trap that LED confuses people. In our heads we associate brightness to watts, a 100 watt light bulb is brighter than a 40 watt light bulb, we should have been taught, lumens as children now a whole generation is confused.
I think the keychain was the clear winner here. It’s a shame about the weak magnet. A few things I would like to have seen: 1) how long they take to charge, 2) how long they last on a full charge, 3) how long they can sustain max brightness Love the channel!
I have one that is basically the same shape but improve with battery indicator and a flip stand. The magnet is maybe abit better but the light is significantly brighter. Go through different online stores, you can definitely find an improve version of whats in the video. I got it at a decent price(around 10USD). For that price im pretty satisfied for a portable, easy to carry light that i can use when situation requires a light. Works as an emergency light i guess since it holds its charge pretty well even after not using it for a long time.
They seemed to be similar when it came to brightness but I think I like the keychain better mostly because it's more streamlined, has a good clip, and a stand in the back.
I've Been Using This Light For About 10 Days Now And Based On My Personal Experience I'll Strongly Suggest To All Of You That, Obviously You'll Never Buy This Tiny Keychain Light Before Testing It With Your Highest Attention. Either Way, You’ll Be A Loser Like Me. 😡 Well… There Are 3 Important Reasons Behind My Suggestion And Based On My Own Testing, I'll Never Recommend You To Buy This Beautiful Piece Of Trash Without Your Acknowledgement. 😔 Firstly, The Most Critical Problem I've Found Is That, After 1 Or 2 Minutes Of Using This Light Will Start Dimming Suddenly And Will Automatically Go Into Dimming Mode (Candlelight Position) Within The Next 3 Minutes, Which Is The Most Annoying Part Of This Light. 😡 Secondly, I've Observed Closely That, Its Charge Lasts Only For 10 To 20 Minutes If I Use It Irregularly. I Mean, If I Need To Search Something In My Room In A Dark Environment, At This Moment I've Turned It On For A Shorter Period Of Time For Searching My Thing And Again I've Turned It Off Within A Minute After Finding My Thing. Like This, The Charge Has Last For 10 To 20 Minutes As I've Experienced. 😡 Thirdly, The Worst Problem I've Faced Is That, For Getting A Better Output, I Thought If I Kept This Light Connected To A Power Bank All The Time (At Charging Mode) As A Direct Source Of Electricity, Maybe I'd Get A Slightly Better Result From My Previous Experience. But Alas, In This Case The Output Result Also Comes Out The Same. 😡 I Mean… After Continuous Use For Below 10 Minutes While It Is Charging At The Power Bank, It Has Again Started To Decrease Its Light Down To The Candlelight Position Within The Next 5 Minutes Of Time, Which Will Make You Extremely Uncomfortable And Unhappy With This Shitty Thing. 😡 So I'm Never Going To Suggest Any Of You To Buy This Cheap Chinese Tech, By Wasting Your Most Valuable Money. 😶 Thank You Very Much. 🚩
I get the best flashlights and push lights from the Dollar Tree. Damn bright. I have push lights up all over the place in my home as well as lanterns for emergencies. My place can be lit up like daylight if the power goes out. Love it.
Flashalolic on here reviewed the cob keychain light and although they state higher lumens, and it acrually basically does meet it, it throttles output very quick so its still a few hundred lumens max..
I would say neither just more Chinese garbage, but if I had to choose it would be the keychain. The cube is bulky and stupid. A 12% charge isn't worth carrying it around..
The keychain light has a bad runtime, ive used it a few months ago fully charged and dont remember what setting i had it on but i kno it was not on turbo and i was very disappointed in run time, ran for maybe 40 min before it became to dim and in need of charge,, I just resorted back to using my streamlight and finished the job i was doing ( Transmission mount )
I bought the keychain light a few weeks ago for around $3.50. The side of the carabineer is a (weak) bottle opener, and the "stand" flips up a full 180 degrees. I measured the current when it was charging, and I think the battery capacity is closer to 350-400 mAh.
So funny thing, the cheap knockoff light looks very similar and practically identical to a light we sell at oreilly auto parts. The magnet is bigger and the light is brighter. I bought 2 of them they're so good.
I have 4 of the keychain light version and absolutely love them. These are not flashlights so you can't compare them but I use them working around the house, under the sink, under my desk (lots of cables and such) and on mine the magnet is plenty strong to hold the light in place, in fact I store them on vertical surfaces, one is on my fridge, one on a file cabinet and another on a chest freezer, never had an issue with them sliding even with doors or drawers moving all the time. I agree the lumen ratings are fake (just high numbers to impress) but for using them as a utility light like I do (10' away max and normally 3' away) they are perfect. I have not run one out of battery yet but I normally only use them 10-20 minutes at a time, then I recharge. I originally paid like $30 for my first 2 and a year later paid $20 for the second 2.
Please consider making car headlight reviews (specifically LEDs). Amazon has a brand Auxito that look good but there are TONS of sponsored reviews on youtube. I don't need a car guy to review it I need a reliable channel!
The magnet on my keychain version is a lot stronger than the one you got. While the bottle-opener feature isn't so useful. The carabiner clip feature, definitely is. For what this thing is primarily designed to do, it works well. No regrets buying mine.
they keychain light is amazing but not for that price. aliexpress around $3 to $4 a pop and it regularly pops on the the $1.99 special deals section. its wonderful for just around anywhere. I attach one to a printer on each table of printers and its USB C. for $2 or $3 its simply amazing.
@@atatistcheffs yup. That’s the one. Amazing little light. I’m constantly surprised with their products in not only how bright they are but how long they last. Quick charging too.
@FroggyNight I DID see the new one. It's more than I want to spend on one. I like the soft light for a few things, but I really want a form factor like the Keychain light from Olight. Brighter and more position-able.
Hello from Chicago! My husband and I enjoy all your videos. I have the keychain light and it works for camping walking around in the dark. You forgot to mention it is also a bottle opener.
I have the A3 and agree they're amazing for the size. Only issue I have is I went from a AAA light to this, and the Rovyvon has to be charged about once a week or 2 vs the AAA which I could get about a month out of it before having to replace the battery. They don't last long at all... but again, a miracle for the size.
Wow, great timing, I was just looking for a better key change light. I've seen that keychain light on Amazon and was wondering how good it was. I like that it's not as bulking as the Kube, and the light is just as good. Mostly, I would use it to put my key into a mailbox at night and also to put my key into my door at night. It's a plus, that it's chargeable!!! Thanks, James!!!
The Stream light Ket light 73200 is really nice, and is the size and shape of a key. James reviewed it a year ago during a mini light face off. I love it and also gave it out as gifts for a white elephant.
i actually have this two pack of keychain lights,,takes awhile to charge but seems to last a long time. i like it so much, it works awesomely..i really like having one in my car, very bright. i use the other one outside at my grill mostly the magnets seem to be a bit stronger than the ones you got and sticks to my grill quite strongly without sliding. anyway,,,i thoroughly enjoyed this freakin review. love the channel, thanks!!!
Neat lights but more like 200 lumens at most then anything else, also i should note if you are willing to wait for shipping the smaller key chain one is all over aliexpress for like 4-5$ lol, might get one for myself as it seems like a nice light to add to my collection/clip on some pants or backpack i just never looked much into it before as i thought it would be your average cheap Chinese thing given the 4$ price point, guess not.
Lumen score is kind of bogus because the catch is that it's at a certain distance. Most likely 1000 lumens at 2ft or something. Kind of misleading when you show it as a flashlight
Bought one of those keychain lights for about 5€ from Aliexpress. It has two cold white modes, 2 warm whites, and steady and blinking red modes. The magnet was really good also. Best part is the USB-C charging. Superb for the price.
Bought a 6 pack of the Keychain Eboot branded version for $30. Marketed as 500 lumens and they've been reliable since Dec 2022. Keep them around on the fridge, one in the car, and one myself. I'd say they're worth it. Only issue is the USB-C port rubber cover. It pops out easily, but it's attached to the keychain.
Thank you so very much. I love your reviews. GOD bless your family health and finances. Thank God for all the wonderful blessings. God is absolutely good. Hallelujah praise the LORD God. In Jesus' holy name we pray amen 🙏 🙌. Hugs
I have to remember to get one of these one day, the one with the better outdoor beam and then just swap out the magnet and it would be damn near perfect!!! I don't expect it to last forever, but I promise it would be used and live a full life! ❤️😁 And someone make one with a better switch, little bigger battery and charge a fair price, now TAKE MY MONEY!!! 🍻😂 And I need 5... Even 20 or 30 a pop would be worth it if decent. Maybe I'm just old.
American prices are so high!. Most things shown in these videos are available in the UK (or variations of) for about 1/3rd the price. For example, my keychain torch was bought at the British equivalent of the Dollar Store! By the way, concentrated light looks brighter than wide lights, as the light isn't as dispersed. That's why the torch seemed brighter.
I purchased two of the keychain flashlights and tested them out that same night. I can say with certainty: 1) Not as bright as the claimed 1,000 lumens. 2) Sure, they last a long time when turned on but only because the lumen output steadily decreases the longer it is used. Meaning, when in use, you will notice it goes dimmer and dimmer until you may as well shut the thing off. It ramps downward to save battery life. You may think "That's a good thing!" But the decrease in lumen output over time is so drastic that you can no longer see what you're doing. This would never function well during a work scenario such as working on your car. I had to constantly turn off and on again to have the light output at a reasonable level. And I hate lights like that! I need a consistent Lumen output until the battery is ready for a recharge. So I sent mine back to seller for a refund.
They’re huge! And hot garbage. Who would want these? If you need a keychain light buy a Rovyvon, Fenix, Streamlight, or as a last resort, the ever popular Chinese ties endorsed by UA-camrs everywhere because they are shills, an olight.
This kind of lights are gimmicky. A simple 1 AAA battery flashlight works better and longer. For $20 you can buy a aluminum case single AAA battery Motorola flashlight and hang it from your key chain.
As always love your videos, I have a confession. Every time I watch your video I think of breaking bad a.k.a., Walter White. Lol…..please put on a pork pie hat and say “I am the one who reviews” on your next video please lol
I did my own review of the keychain light. When I tired to screw in a cold shoe adaptor to mount this light to a camera the entire light came apart in my hands! Since it was already apart I had a look at the components inside. It's one of the most cheaply made lights I have ever seen, the magnet on mine actually came out and stayed stuck to the metal object I attached it to! It's amazing how the luck of the draw dictates reviews.
I got something like these but ''head light's'' with the strap so when working on the car or biking they are great and at the dollar tree they only cost $1, So I picked up 5 of them and they are pretty good, You should get some and compare them, $1 vs $20, The $1 lights do need 3 AAA so can't recharge them with a plug but I do use rechargeable battery's. They both have good and bad points. My number 1 good point about the $1 light is if I lose it or give it away to some im only out $1 and I lose lights a lot for some reason
I think that keychain would be my choice. You could attach it to a belt loop and it would illuminate where you walk pretty well. Not good enough for a long jog or a jog on the road though--wouldn't want to blind drivers. But good enough for a short job or (dog) walk along the sidewalk. Definitely good enough for a trip to/from the car at night when you're bringing in multiple items and/or need a light plus a free hand to open your locked home door. The wide bright light would make sure there isn't someone hiding nearby.
i dont quite see the point of a tiny pocket floodlight, really. it's a cool gadget to show off, but super nieche in application at that. for prectical use you would carry either a bigger battery for expoloration, or tiny wattage to illuminate a tent. tl:dr: it's a typical EDC toy ps: please include conversions to grams, at least in text. you're editing the vid anyways, and it shows a lot of concideration to the majority of the planet. :D
You can get down the rabbit hole of the lumen issue. Essentially the vast overwhelming majority of amazon listed lights do not function at their reported lumen range.
Can you use something like the snap-on under hood light next time you do something like this. Comparing them to each other or to a thru-light is kind of pointless. The snap-on is a known quantity from a high quality non-consumer brand.
I have the key chain flashlight and use it fairly often, but not in my pocket! HA HA I have a carport where I can walk from my back porch on my sidewalk to reach it. At night I have that light on the metal exit door, so I can just take it and without having to turn on the back porch lights, walk down the sidewalk to get to my SUV. I leave it on the metal frame of the carport and if I come back late at night it is handy to take it back to the backdoor of the house, lighting my way. I do not need to see far away, but do need a broad beam to see if any critters are around while walking. Very handy. The magnet on mine is such that I put a lanyard on the carabiner so I can put it on the coat hook on my door, that way it will not fall off if the magnet let go!
Considering the light output and the price, I'd go with the Keychain. You get 2 and it's a little smaller and would be easier to carry. The Kube would be good if someone needed a small power bank and maybe a little longer battery life. As for the clip... if I really wanted the Kube, I'd either take off the round keyring and add a carabiner, or leave the round keyring on and just add a carabiner to that. Then, the Kube would be easier to attach and detach. As always, another cool review. Thanks.
Considering how much the Kube is, they should have included a carabiner; it should not add too much to their cost. But I'm not sure how it feels to have a cube banging against you if you are the outdoor type. The keychain is just less noticable to have around.
i never had a mini flash light befor. but i got a red flash light and pink flash light and 2 black flash light and they are waterproof and they sill work good.
These two things are way too similar, you should compare a normal flashlight with the Keychain light. And then we can see if the Keychain is worth buying.
Getting a carribiner for the cube light is cheap and likely much stronger than the built in clip on the other light. Beyond that the poor power button design and weak magnet are the only real flaws with the product.
You should've tested those magnets on something else too like a refrigerator cuz modern cars are mostly aluminum and alloys so it could've been your hood as well...
You also forgot to mention that the keychain light also has a bottle opener next to the clip.
Now you can call that a cube,(no more block) for charging😂
I'm surprised you didn't do a battery duration test. Probably not something you usually do on lights but since you're comparing the two I'd be interested to see if the keychain light is really half the duration given it's half the capacity of the cube.
I am making a reivew and have tested 20 of the carabiner ones in a battery duration test - results vary significantly. like 2 to 3 times from highest to lowest
Regarding the magnet. It also depends on the type of steel its on. Certain steels aren't as magnetic as others. I hope that helps.
Regarding the magnet, the magnet are equally week on both lights. You are not going to buy a new truck, just to make a cheap light stick to it.
Most hoods are aluminum these day - also the placement on light-weight 'steel' might not be your best choice.
ah yes, i have the keychain light and the magnet sticks quite well to my grill and a metal picnic table i have, no sliding
So they both only come lemon flavored?
The starburst lover in me is so disappointed
to me, waterproof mean that no water what so ever can seep through, while water-resistant means that it can withstand water to a certain point. also if you really wanna review lights you can get a Lux meter
I think the term you're looking for is "splash proof"
Oh, I am mid editing a review on these, I have purchased 30 of those carabiner ones from 5 different sellers and have been using them for 4 months now.

That drop off is from the LEDs losing efficiency as they heat up. COBs produce a lot of heat due to the diode density on the chip

LPT: if you put a drop off super glue on the button location and let it dry, it will provide a good raised bump to make it easier to find at night.
Curious if the LED array is the same on both. 🤔🤔🤔
I think you should invest in a Lumens tester as I think you will find most of your torches are all lying about the lumens they say they are.
Well…
There Are 3 Important Reasons Behind My Suggestion And Based On My Own Testing, I'll Never Recommend You To Buy This Beautiful Piece Of Trash Without Your Acknowledgement. 😔
Firstly,
The Most Critical Problem I've Found Is That, After 1 Or 2 Minutes Of Using This Light Will Start Dimming Suddenly And Will Automatically Go Into Dimming Mode (Candlelight Position) Within The Next 3 Minutes, Which Is The Most Annoying Part Of This Light. 😡
Secondly,
I've Observed Closely That, Its Charge Lasts Only For 10 To 20 Minutes If I Use It Irregularly. 😡
Thirdly,
The Worst Problem I've Faced Is That, For Getting A Better Output, I Thought If I Kept This Light Connected To A Power Bank All The Time (At Charging Mode) As A Direct Source Of Electricity, Maybe I'd Get A Slightly Better Result From My Previous Experience. But Alas, In This Case The Output Result Also Comes Out The Same. 😡
I Mean…
After Continuous Use For Below 10 Minutes While It Is Charging At The Power Bank, It Has Again Started To Decrease Its Light Down To The Candlelight Position Within The Next 5 Minutes Of Time, Which Will Make You Extremely Uncomfortable And Unhappy With This Shitty Thing. 😡
So I'm Never Going To Suggest Any Of You To Buy This Cheap Chinese Tech, By Wasting Your Most Valuable Money. 😶

I bought a Wuben g2 keychain light with 4 brightness levels, a twist easy disconnect and USB c charging that is really good. It's also really durable.
You should do a comparison of light meters, then you would have a light meter to test Flash lights in the future.
Thank you so very much. I love your reviews. GOD bless your family health and finances. Thank God for all the wonderful blessings. God is absolutely good. Hallelujah praise the LORD God. In Jesus' holy name we pray amen 🙏 🙌. Hugs
Magnets don't work on aluminum... a $9 Flashlight compares Really well to a $22 Flashlight - and Doesn't Crack..
Yesssirrr let’s gooo!
I can say with certainty:
1) Not as bright as the claimed 1,000 lumens.
The keychain light is $18.79 for 2. For 1 it's $13.99. The keycube light is $21.99 for 1. I got keychain.
I got something like these but ''head light's'' with the strap so when working on the car or biking they are great and at the dollar tree they only cost $1, So I picked up 5 of them and they are pretty good, You should get some and compare them,
$1 vs $20,
The $1 lights do need 3 AAA so can't recharge them with a plug but I do use rechargeable battery's.
They both have good and bad points. My number 1 good point about the $1 light is if I lose it or give it away to some im only out $1 and I lose lights a lot for some reason
I wouldn't buy the kube. Companies need to move on from the micro USB.
If you want a small bright key chain torch, the nitecore tini 2 is my pick.
I bought 6 of the keychain lights from Amazon. 3/6 quit working within a few days. Straight up garbage.
Didn't test the battery life claims. Given the "accuracy" of the brightness claims, it seems worth checking.
i dont quite see the point of a tiny pocket floodlight, really. it's a cool gadget to show off, but super nieche in application at that. for prectical use you would carry either a bigger battery for expoloration, or tiny wattage to illuminate a tent.
tl:dr: it's a typical EDC toy
ps: please include conversions to grams, at least in text. you're editing the vid anyways, and it shows a lot of concideration to the majority of the planet. :D
The kube is awesome. I have one i used for camping works great. Keeping up the good work.
Freakin' - it's been a year, I would love to know if they actually last or did they break during long term use.
I bought this key chain with a lighter 3 days ago and it worked shockingly well!
keychain light also advertises the bottle opener on the frame .. for mobilbility the keychain light wins for me .. plus you get 2 of them .. 👍
Bought a headlamp from Aldi it looks to have same brightness, but they say its only 140 lumens, How do you test lumens properly?
You can get down the rabbit hole of the lumen issue. Essentially the vast overwhelming majority of amazon listed lights do not function at their reported lumen range.
The keychain lights are just more convenient. The Kube is a bit bulky even if it can be used as power bank.
Neither of the lights look impressive.
Checkout the nitecore tiny 2 flashlight, really small and 500 lumens with an oled display for a real time countdown for how long you have
Considering the light output and the price, I'd go with the Keychain.
Inpurchaed mthe unbrandedbkey chain wherebiscthevpower button?
i never had a mini flash light befor. but i got a red flash light and pink flash light and 2 black flash light and they are waterproof and they sill work good.
I got keychain light for Christmas and I find it OK its good for camping or fishing I don't no if anyone has mentioned it also has a bottle opener
I have 4 pcs of those keychain.. pretty good buying it straight from china for bout $1.25 each 😊
The weirdest comment, sure, but id rather watch James than old schol popeye movie cartoons! Freakin yes!
Hi James, please review the La Cross Technology wifi professional weather station!
For the price and functionality, I'd wait til I stop by the as seen on tv section of the Walmart clearance section to buy a similar product
Anyone with the keychain/carabiner light, can you use the light while being charged by a powerbank?
Love the vids!
I wonder how hard iti si to remove that battery?
I want the flashlight concept but the magnetics I do not need in my backpack
That cube also have flat "side" so you can put it to same way as the keychain light. Did you do any kind of runtime test with them?
The Maglite brand makes an identical product to the keychain one. I wonder if it’s better than the generic one.
I bought the cube light and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I've used it countless times
Keychain also have SOS mode if you click twice quickly...
Whoever is watching, I hope you have medium good luck
Yakno the carabiner one. If they remove the magnetics, and made it also a electric lighter. That'd be hella cool
