- After opening with rounds of 67 and 63 on Thursday and Friday at Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club, Tiger Woods went on to win the Buick Open by four shots over Esteban Toledo.
Tiger Woods' chase for Sam Snead's record of 82 PGA TOUR wins began at the 1996 Las Vegas Invitational, his first TOUR win in just his fifth professional start. Over 20 years later Woods' excellence has seen him raise a trophy in six countries and 16 different American states.

I was 8 years old and in the crowd where Tiger hit the ball in the final round, one of the coolest core memories I have was standing 5 feet from the GOAT.

This was one of the Golf Channel’s last regular PGA Tour events until 2007. They only got alternate events and the lower tours in the 2003-06 TV contract. However they bid on, and won, early round coverage of not just some events but the entire season, in the 2007-13 TV deal. In 2011 they were folded into NBC Sports, making NBC by far the dominant broadcaster in golf, which they remain today.

Par 5s……if you look at the Par 5 scoring stats from like 97 to 03 it’s insane. It’s unfair. He scores so much better than even the next best guy that even if his driver sucks if he’s scoring on the par 5s and 2 putting every where else he has a shot every time he plays. It’s almost like everyone was playing golf and he was playing something entirely different
