B.C. ski hills get creative to stay open amid low snow levels

- Extremely low snow levels are forcing ski hills in B.C. to get creative. New data shows local mountains have 60 per cent less snow than normal. David Ball has more on some ski resorts' efforts to serve visitors and snow sports enthusiasts.

Thank you so much for letting us comment on the skiing hill your Grace.
If your quality of life is affected by whether or not you can comment on a UA-cam video, you live a very sad life. I challenge you to not use the internet for a month. Go find some friends.
No one said anything about quality of life.
Sounds like you’re projecting.

It was a joke. You live a very sad life.
@elliotjordan2326 You're a bundle of joy, aren't you?
@elliotjordan2326 why are you so conditioned to censorship dawg?
🤦🏼♂️ "pumping millions of gallons"... That' sure not going to make the upcoming drought worse 🤦🏼♂️
We’ll actuallybif it doesn’t melt it will just be stored up there until spring like a normal snowpack
Lol. There is no drought coming budd, just more Geo engineering
Tell us you dont know how a watershed works without telling us...
😂 it's a shame you don't.
All that water spread out as snow for the sun to shine on means there's a loss to what will return to the watershed 🤦🏼♂️
Time to get some BLUE tarps for the upcoming DEW attack er fire season
Didn't Cypress close for many years due to lack of snow about 40 years ago?
No, it didn’t
But, they did truck in snow for the Olympics. Pepperidge Farms remembers...
Wow we actually get to voice our opinion in a CBC video comments section for once?
Nice to know you're living your life to the fullest.
My guess is they're reacting now so as not to become the next ctv. Too little to late methinks.
@@misterfunnybonesyou clearly aren't, comment warrior.
Bonuses for cbc could pay for snowmaking
Back off, anti-skiers, we’re having a difficult time. This sport is exercise, fresh air, and fun. Don’t rain on our sad parade: we’ve had enough of a soaking already!
Huh? Who the hell is anti-skiing?

@@degaite do you have a link? Is it a group with a membership? Do they have a news letter? When was their last protest? Did they make the news? Does their group have a name ?
Why does the CBC turn off comments on Political articles they post? Give people a chance to tell the CBC that they are wrong and they know it. That is why they do not allow comments.
Cbc needs to start reporting honestly, and impartially if they want to keep their jobs.
Can't see why anyone would report favourably on losing their jobs.
Pete'll get the coverage he's asking for, and learn about the power of the press
@@jaygray7102 Why doesn't the press manage to press down on Trudeau's continuing wrong doings ?
Oh right, he took a vacation. How much did the useless investigation cost tax payers this time? - but it's conservatives doing the wasting. At least he's not using military aircraft to get there like conservatives did. He's got a long way to go before he comes close to their record of what you call wrong doings. You might put 'black face' on that list, something the most racist party does on a regular basis.
Cons -$750 MILLION just for pictures of themselves and partisan advertising - while they sued sick mothers and infants to stop them from getting benefits....and conservatives have the nerve to whine about Trudeau selfies that cost us nothing.
Pete poses with people breaking the law, then has the nerve to accuse Trudeau of being responsible for increase in crime.
He tells Trudeau to butt out of the gender issue, then shoots off his big mouth about it, supporting a premier who wants to TAKE AWAY people's rights.
Nothing he says makes sense - except to "google it". Did that, his past record stinks, he's nothing but a collections agent. @@LanielPhoto
💯
I particularly liked some of their recent commentary where they voice all the conservative complaints against liberals on one topic, but make sure to include things conservatives did that are worse or no different. @@yoonie1000
So the NS mountains now represent all of BC?
May be a longer trip but about same price or perhaps a bit more get an Epic pass or Ikon pass especially if ur already a frequent traveller
😮this is exactly the problem with cbc... they showed images of the begining of winter... interviewed the manager... wait 2 months complete the story😢
Plane flown avocados, artificial snow and state sponsored diesel ferry to Sunshine coast while you have to pay carbon tax for going to work. It is good to be the king right?
What do you think should be done about climate change then? The carbon tax is a conservative idea (i.e. a market based solution and not regulation), yet now that it's been implemented all they want to do is complain and not offer alternative solutions.
We’re fine with it being dry and mild in the metro
Just close it down for the season buddy,
What a waste of money,
“High tech snow makers”
Waste of water, waste of electricity, waste of money.
Might as well try to keep it running in late May as temperatures reach 15+C if you’re this willing to try and force snow to be on the ground lol
Keep in mind that taxpayers paid for a good portion of the snowmaking at Cypress & Whistler - millions of dollars for a two week party. So, apparently, the infrastructure cost & "legacy" benefit is being put to good use. Thank you for your contribution to the ski legacy fund.
The North Shore is feast or famine based on the freezing level; the real issue is long-term warming, shorter Winter season & the effect on snow pack for the water supply. Thousands of people disregard the watering restrictions & use automated watering in the early AM for vanity - watering the lawn with treated potable water during a drought!?
We just had a la Nina calm down 😂

They should just not open for skiing on El Nino years. It is operating at a huge loss and instead of skiing, they could just offer winter hiking, open the restaurant for BBQ. It is the reality of our changing climate.
Yet another reason to not live in the lower mainland!
But minister guilbot promised carbon tax would work

Global temperatures are still higher than they've ever been in the last 150 years. This is a window into what our future looks like if we keep dragging our feet on emission reductions.
He warned that his D.E.W. Would control the snow !
You will believe in anything in order to validate you incorrect worldview
Honestly so sad, people are coping like crazy but everyone knows skiing will never be the same if global warming continues. Get ready for indoor skiing in dubai guys 😐
Same channel just warned of drought, and here they use "millions of liters".
Find the mistake
Drought doesn’t mean zero water. And millions of litres isn’t really all that much in the big picture. Also it’s winter. It just rained over 400mm last month. The problem is that it’s raining not snowing and in the summer there will be no snow to melt and slowly replenish streams.
Think a little more
Just dont ski if there isnt any snow. Stay home and think a bit more nature
@@lostmoose9994 most people bought season passes last year and will be a complete waste of money if they don’t use them.
Geoff, I hear you. They should know about the risk of loosing money. Canada will go down the same path like the alps in Europe. Less and less snow.

Well, for the vast majority of us, we don’t have the money for these luxurious vacations and skiing…
It’s only for those people in public service and above
maybe if you stopped constantly layering stratospheric aerosols all the time we could have normal weather again
ski on plastic garbage ... we have so much to go around !!!!
Skiers who claim to care about the environment and climate change need to take a long, hard look at themselves. What is the carbon footprint of blowing all that artificial snow? Of the skiing industry overall?
How does skiing create any more carbon than any other activity??? People who are not skiing are not reducing carbon emitions.
Co2 is what forests, oceans and humans need to be healthy. This anti co2 experiment is anti science and harmful
Lol carbon is the substrate to life. Time to wake up out of the programming
