Yes definitely make a sequel to this please. This is how I learned about the extended Punderworld universe. I saw Hades on screen, thought "he looks familiar," paused the video, looked up Punderworld, looked up the authors, had a huge "a-ha!" moment, and then unpaused the video to hear you say what I had just discovered not five seconds later. I mean, Mirka Andolfo is a great artist and a great writer, who's put out hit after hit. And Sweet Paprika is a top tier book with a lot of pathos. (I'm not familiar with the other artist/comic, so I can't speak to that one.) So it means you have good taste in comics.

Sejic's work is absolutely fantastic, I definitely second the recommendation (or third, or fourth, or whatever number we're at now, as I'm by no means the first in the comments). One thing I find about that humor style you mentioned is that I think it works actually better in Suntstone than in many other works, because with a lot of writers it comes across as trying too hard to "insert humor here" and draws attention to itself too much: but I think Sejic manages to get it to feel more like the casual silliness of actual people cracking jokes with each other like real friends and loved ones do; like, instead of trying to fit the "humor of the day" into a story where it doesn't belong, it's more like "this is the sense of humor that these individuals would actually have IRL".
Very grateful for this. Some suggestions for more: --Omaha The Cat Dancer, an old underground sexy soap opera from the 80s, it's in DIRE need of an omnibus reprint like the recent Cherry book. The comics had sex and nudity right from the beginning, but the intensity of the scenes escalated a lot as the series progressed. As they reached the end, even scenes with actual penetration began to appear. Great video! Here are some others that are probably pretty obscure now, but were huge in their day: Elfquest: Elfquest was *the* self-published comic that put self-published comics on the map. It's also something of a time capsule of the Counter Culture '70s. Sex isn't the point, it just happens, because people enjoy it, because they fall in love, because children don't happen without it. Sex is both casual and magical, an attitude that seems strange and exotic these days. Linsner's Dawn comics, especially Lucifer's Halo where every damn panel looks like a hang-in-the-Louvre masterpiece. This one has one foot firmly in '90s paganism and sings with mythic resonance. And, unlike Lady Death, Dawn actually knocks boots. ;)
great video man! Yes, Lady Death is BAD ASS! but I'm definitely biased haha maybe part two would be slightly different category as the characters that I tend to read may have "spicy" material within them but that isn't really the focus or focal point..."Mostly" haha some characters more so than others. But anyways thanks for another one man!
Loved the content (great fan of Sunstone), would love to see more, both expanding on this list or just exploring the comics & the authors we have just seen. Interview with the Sejic's couple when? While I have read Sweet Paprika I discovered just now that is has a second volume! Also I should re-read it, it didn't really click with me the first read. A good topic may also be the different impact of "spicy" comics in different "genres"/"cultures", like comparing this genre (where spicy is part of the plot but not THE most important thing) with the works of Milo Manara or Guido Crepax (or other similar authors) and/or some mangas. They are all different approach to a similar theme but.... why are different? Also while I've never read old stories like "Vampirella", I believe that if we dig we can find other fine things....or maybe I just got caught from the covers and nothing spicy happens in them ahahah. Great work, can't wait for more videos!
I have a soft spot for XXXenophile by Phil Foglio. It was around from 1989 to 1995 or so, and is just mostly playfun fun, with a LOT of sex. The art style would be recognized if you remember the "What's New with Phil and Dixie" comics from Dragon Magazine, or is wife Kaja's long running Steampunk webcomic, Girl Genius. They also both did a lot of cards for Magic the Gathering in the earlier days, when it took itself less seriously.
Wow! You sold me on like more than half of these comics lol, really interesting stuff. Yeah when you were describing both of the Paprika and fine print ones i was thinking of Hazbin, and more specifically Helluva Boss so i’m happy you said something.
Damn, I followed the Sweet Paprika artist without knowing that she had made a comic, I'm glad her video was recommended to me. Now I have to read it lol
my main enjoyment from spicy stuff is mainly for the lore, or at least in search of a good story in those medium. because I believe that it has a higher potential at delivering something better whether it is story, gameplay, representation, creative outlet etc due to how non restrictive it is (except for the taboo surrounding)
Excellent vid! The more people realize that comics aren't just super heroes, the better. The is one of the reasons that manga can, and has, taken over the comics conversation in the US. There are no limits on set-up or genre there; brings to mind a really great completed series that fits with the the theme of this vid - Sweat and Soap. It's about a leading product designer for a cosmetics company who is extremely focused on scents working with, and falling in love with, a coworker who has a sweating problem when stressed and a subsequent unique and alluring odor to the aforementioned product designer. It's a lovely, funny and hopeful story of two people who come to understand themselves as much as they understand each other. As for US comics, a few "spicy" series you might want to look into are Wally Wood's Cannon (it was written in the 70s for Army services members, so it's far from modern in terms of views), The Agency by Katie Skelly, Gillen & McKelvie's The Wicked + The Divine and Colleen Coover's Small Favors. All are worth a read, for one reason or another.
Gold Digger. It's not every much in the adult comics but it's there. God when I was young cheesecakes and beefcakes and a lot of Indiana Jones. I just love it. There's so many references in it. I hope you check it out though.
Did you know about the Gold Digger spin off War nerd of Mars a one shot adult only book where Gina was accidentally transported to another planet but fully naked it was a parody off of Den from the Heavy Metal magazine but due to a legal issue with the owners of the John Carter franchise it was cancelled.
Their needs to be a video on Gold digger their a lot of lore and one of the longest comic book runs since 1999 this should have been a cartoon airing on Toonami the art work is incredible good as well as is cast of characters.
@@isaiahkayode6526 Did you know about Gold Digger's Time Raft? It's a self made animated mini series created by Fred himself, it should be on the youtube, I have all 3 parts.
At 9:56, "These Freezefuckers" had me rolling with laughter. Now I actually want to check that story out, even though the more risqué comics are not really my cup of tea. Well done good sir, well done.
i read a lot of these well seasoned comics, i haven't seen that many good quality ones so getting some god tier suggestions for qualty comics certainly is a godsend, would love to see a part 2 but thanks for all you've given me thus far, i'm for sure gonna check out at least half of these.
Skarpworld is such a good spicy comic, it’s my personal favorite. There’s REALLY good plot in there and the other half is just…spice. It has an interesting, unique plot and characters and I just LOVE it.
If you're interested in more "spicy" comics with meaningful story behind them, I can suggest Cybersix. There was a cartoon based on it, but the cartoon was very much sanitized compared to the much more adult original comic. It might be hard to get a full version of it though, because it was drawn in Argentina for an Italian periodic magazine, and I don't think it was ever even translated in English, so... The order of issue is a mess too, because you have the short stories that were published on Skorpio, and the longer stories on the separate issues they made for the series when it got popular. Falka is another interesting one, from the same publication.
I've read several of these, going back to Toaster Tart, back in the day. I did enjoy the video, but found it funny that when you reviewed Afterburner you compared it's black and white art to comics from the 70s. I looked at those images and was thinking more 90s Frank Miller's comics like Sin City or 300. I might suggest if you do a follow-up looking at Phil Foglio's XXXenophile or Heavy Metal Magazine and the varied level of spiciness from issue to issue.
Good job on this. I don't know if there are even any comic shops in my area, much less anyone who carries anything alternative. While I stopped collecting comics a long time ago, at the time when cover prices became too much of a fraction of hourly wages, I love discussions like this.
I love that youve been tackling a broader variety of stuff lately! Any chance you might do some more on less discussed titles (some of which are the best books published in the last 20yrs) like Blackhammer, department of truth, the materials trilogy (vinyl, plastic and plush) ice cream man, beneath the trees where nobody sees, Crossover etc. id especially love to hear your thoughts on black hammer as it references so many books you have discussed.
Sunstone is a really good read. And honestly, it's made me realize that the BDSM community is basically a fandom. Sex Criminals is also a very interesting read.
This was a really cool vid and very refreshing topic. I'm glad that most of the comics you shared here weren't just 🌽 comics but actually just good comics that had sexual elements
Putting Sunstone in the thumbnail is borderline clickbait. That comic is one of the most wholesome, lovely, rom-coms you'll ever read. Such a great book.
Have'nt read all the comments obviuosly, but surprised to see that both "Alfie" by IncaseArt or "Rock Cocks" by Brad and Leslie Brown haven't been mentioned. Both are some of the most engaging comics I myself have read and both have 10+ volumes with over 1000 total pages each. Either way great video, happy to see some love for more "Spicy" comics as it is underrated imo
As an Ace person I normally don't enjoy spicy content, I skip over love/sex scenes in books and movies, lose interest if there's a big focus on romance or sex, etc. BUT Sex Criminals is a top ten comic for me, it's so well written and funny and I'm glad to see it included here.
Kind of amazing this showed up in my feed despite of everything and having never heard of this channel. UA-cams algorithm is wonky but I'm not complaining, good video.
This just popped up on my youtube feed, so I decided to watch to see if you covered anything from Pat Shand's "Cheeky Comics" imprint. When you talked about Sunstone I brought it up online and started reading. Needless to say I got so engrossed in Sunstone that I barely heard anything else you said in the video after that. Anyway, yes to making another video, and I'd love to see you talk about Cheeky Comics, especially the main title "Private Dance".
Sejic is a fantastic writer and illustrator, one of my favorites And I think the reason as to why often spicy comics and stories tend to do romance more interesting than a regular romance in a show or movie or comic etc is because it's honestly really hard to write compelling smut, like legitimately its difficult to write a smut scene that is interesting to read, as a smut writer myself you have to put in alot more effort to make it compelling and by doing that you have to hone your skills more and more, put in more effort and through that you often times become really good at what you do As well BDSM relationships and sexual relationships in general open up your eyes alot and can give you more perspective I mean after all Sex is an importiant part of most relationships so showing that and exploring it is a good thing to making the romance more interesting and developing characters etc Smut is just generally hard to write, so when you see some good stuff know that the writer put in alot of work
Thanks for putting this together,… I’ve just had the opportunity to purchase 6 issues of Cherry Poptart ( 2 different #1 w/ same cover 🍒 & can’t seem to find a lot of info on the books, history , value ) 😅 looking forward to the next one. 👍🏻
17:31 Pacing is very important. I recently read a web novel that had the opposite problem. They mention something is going to happen in 5 minutes and 5 chapters later that 5 minutes has not yet elapsed.
This was really fun! I would definitely recommend at looking at Iron Circus Comics if you do a second video. I have three of the volumes of their very beautiful anthology series (I'm afraid my comment might get flagged if I include the name) but there's also stuff like 'Yes, Roya' (complete) or 'Iris & Angel' (on-going but there is no set schedule for new chapters) that are equally wonderful.
This video was interesting to read and I’ve added some of these comics to my “to read” list. I’d definitely be interested in a sequel video at some point since I like to hear about comics I haven’t heard of before.
you ever gonna do any videos on Antarctic Press would love to see something about warrior nun, ninja high school, gold digger, Ben Dunns Marvel Mangaverse would also be a pretty cool subject
Mirka Andolfi also did other very cool spicy comics: one is called Un/Sacred (and it’s set in the same world of Sweet Paprika) the other one is called Unnatural. They are both pretty cool and come on, support Italian comics you guys, we really need it.

That's a spicy meatball!
Good idea making a community post for this, I almost missed it! Great video
Yeah when you were describing both of the Paprika and fine print ones i was thinking of Hazbin, and more specifically Helluva Boss so i’m happy you said something.
that was rad -- great video! i liked that you touched on ones that may not be your favorite but may have an audience for.
Damn, I followed the Sweet Paprika artist without knowing that she had made a comic, I'm glad her video was recommended to me. Now I have to read it lol
New fav vid of yours, would love to hear more about non superhero comics you enjoy from time to time.
This video is neat! And so informative. I didn't know there was so much interesting stuff. Thanks❤
Please make a part 2!!!! I'm begging!!!!!
And I love your content, please keep it up, you're amazing!!
Sunstone is easily one of my favourite books and made me fall in love sejics work. Would love to see more videos about him or his work.
Good vid! Found some new comics to read...the pearl neckalace line damn near killed me
SWEET PAPRIKA MENTIONED!!!!!
For a second video please also include Swing. Also I am a fan of Sejc's work one of few how bought Death Vigil and Ravine, both criminally underrated.
my main enjoyment from spicy stuff is mainly for the lore, or at least in search of a good story in those medium. because I believe that it has a higher potential at delivering something better whether it is story, gameplay, representation, creative outlet etc due to how non restrictive it is (except for the taboo surrounding)
@@isaiahkayode6526 YES HELL YES GOD FRED PERRY ONCE MADE A LITERAL SHORT MOVIE OF IT. It's archived but god the animation is just amazing.
@@isaiahkayode6526 Did you know about Gold Digger's Time Raft? It's a self made animated mini series created by Fred himself, it should be on the youtube, I have all 3 parts.
@@nathaniellee2263 i know that as well kinda sucked as hecc
I look forward to using this video as a springboard to expanding my understanding of the Comix genre.
Thank you for this, ComicDrake.
At 9:56, "These Freezefuckers" had me rolling with laughter. Now I actually want to check that story out, even though the more risqué comics are not really my cup of tea. Well done good sir, well done.
Sure, I'd watch a second volume of this
i read a lot of these well seasoned comics, i haven't seen that many good quality ones so getting some god tier suggestions for qualty comics certainly is a godsend, would love to see a part 2 but thanks for all you've given me thus far, i'm for sure gonna check out at least half of these.
Skarpworld is such a good spicy comic, it’s my personal favorite. There’s REALLY good plot in there and the other half is just…spice. It has an interesting, unique plot and characters and I just LOVE it.
It's been ages since I read some of these. Thanks for talking about this stuff Drake 😃
This was great, thanks for making it, I'd love to see more!
23:08 "Award winning video" I hear this on most of your videos and I feel like this is also one of your running gags
"And I thought Batman was the detective."
Putting Sunstone in the thumbnail is borderline clickbait. That comic is one of the most wholesome, lovely, rom-coms you'll ever read. Such a great book.
Lmao it’s literally just porn
The only time you can say "I read these for the plot."... even if no one will ever believe me... and of course for the se- 😅
As a very much heterosexual guy, "spicy" vomics are either only worthwhile as fap material or worth reading regardless of the adult content.
Kind of amazing this showed up in my feed despite of everything and having never heard of this channel. UA-cams algorithm is wonky but I'm not complaining, good video.
14:48 I *really* hope that the more information that I'm waiting for before reading into is... you know... positive.
*inhales*
*screams*
This just popped up on my youtube feed, so I decided to watch to see if you covered anything from Pat Shand's "Cheeky Comics" imprint. When you talked about Sunstone I brought it up online and started reading. Needless to say I got so engrossed in Sunstone that I barely heard anything else you said in the video after that. Anyway, yes to making another video, and I'd love to see you talk about Cheeky Comics, especially the main title "Private Dance".
Sunstone was AMAZING.
Legit made me sad at points, and genuinely happy in others.
Ooh, I was already interested in Fine Print, definitely will read their whole lineup!
Loving the recent videos!
Another video of this would be great! Truly a fascinating topic that is underappreciated!
Sejic is a fantastic writer and illustrator, one of my favorites
And I think the reason as to why often spicy comics and stories tend to do romance more interesting than a regular romance in a show or movie or comic etc is because it's honestly really hard to write compelling smut, like legitimately its difficult to write a smut scene that is interesting to read, as a smut writer myself you have to put in alot more effort to make it compelling and by doing that you have to hone your skills more and more, put in more effort and through that you often times become really good at what you do
As well BDSM relationships and sexual relationships in general open up your eyes alot and can give you more perspective
I mean after all Sex is an importiant part of most relationships so showing that and exploring it is a good thing to making the romance more interesting and developing characters etc
Smut is just generally hard to write, so when you see some good stuff know that the writer put in alot of work
Thanks for putting this together,… I’ve just had the opportunity to purchase 6 issues of Cherry Poptart ( 2 different #1 w/ same cover 🍒 & can’t seem to find a lot of info on the books, history , value ) 😅 looking forward to the next one.
Hey dude! Please continue whatever you’re up to especially with the spicy stuff!
I find it hilarious that the sponsor of this video is Adam and Eve 😂
This video was interesting to read and I’ve added some of these comics to my “to read” list. I’d definitely be interested in a sequel video at some point since I like to hear about comics I haven’t heard of before.
Ayyee always love to see a James Stephanie Sterling cameo!
Paprika sounds like a great story honestly. Might check it out!
you ever gonna do any videos on Antarctic Press would love to see something about warrior nun, ninja high school, gold digger, Ben Dunns Marvel Mangaverse would also be a pretty cool subject
Had to watch on Patreon for intended experience. Good recs. You should do another in the series.
Mirka Andolfi also did other very cool spicy comics: one is called Un/Sacred (and it’s set in the same world of Sweet Paprika) the other one is called Unnatural. They are both pretty cool and come on, support Italian comics you guys, we really need it.
That "and while you're down there" 😂
Yes, please make another some time.
